I want to thank You for the response back, regarding translation of Gnawa to English. I’ve heard and listened to these guys, along with many other Gnawa musicians. I had no idea about the language not spoken anymore. No wonder it’s hard to translate. My boyfriend is Moroccan and exposed me to Gnawa, a few years ago. Even he couldn’t translate. He didn’t go into detail about why? I didn’t bother him with a million question, because it wasn’t important. All I know is that the music touched my soul and didn’t understand the words. On one of my trips to Morocco, we visited Agadir, Morocco. While we were there I heard a band called Gnawa Sperit, play. During one of there songs tears just start pouring down my face. I didn’t fight it. I asked my boyfriend, what are they talking about? He just said that the music is very spiritual and left it at that. Since then I was hooked. I had already heard and loved the song Hammadi. Now I know, thanks to you. It’s an absolute gift that you were able to translate, Hammadi Absolutely beautiful thank you 🙏 Honestly, we really don’t need words for your heart to understand the message. To me, it speaks volumes. When music speaks without understanding the words. Music is a universal language. Gnawa will touch your spirit and your soul, that’s for sure. Want an experience of a lifetime? Essaouira, Morocco has a Gnawa festival every year. I’m telling you, GO! It IS the place to visit and you will come back home a new person with an enlightened spirit 😍🇲🇦❤️
Thanks again Laura :). Always happy to see our work touching hearts and spirits around the world. And yes I’ve been to the festival in Essaouira - this is Hatim, the founder/director of this project and I grew up in Morocco - so the Moroccan elements of this project are very personal for me :). Glad you got to experience the gnawa magic in Essaouira!
Hatim Belyamani ❤️❤️❤️
I am proud of my Moroccan woman wherever I go and I love Gnaoui art. Welcome to the city of Essaouira, which holds this art festival.
Welcome to morocco anytime 🌹
Gnawa is like one of sufi Islam types , a lot of there songs are Islamic and spiritual and peaceful 👍👍👍👍👍
تحية طيبة من مدينة الصويرة العتيقة إلى كل محبين السماع الكناوي عبر العالم
got here feeling fine after watching a michael league interview…now leaving with my mind blown wide open and grateful for the transformative power of music! 🙏
I wish there were more of the music translated in English. Coming from a Muslim American and seeing the words to Hammadi ❤️ I just sobbed because of the meaning, absolutely beautiful!
Thanks Laura - with this particular song, translations are a bit tricky because they're mixed between Moroccan Arabic and Bambara (which is untranslatable because it is no longer spoken in Morocco - and lives on only in the form of Gnawa lyrics which are mostly not understood in a literal sense). So the translation here would need to convey the spiritual feeling behind the song rather than any word-for-word translation. Having said that, we're always striving to improve so thank you for your comment and we'll see what we can do to get more translations in the future :)
remix ←→ culture is there a way to translate the Bambara lyrics using one of the dialects of Bamana people of Mali since those are the same groups?
I am Moroccan and i don't understand that song
The gnawa music came to Morocco from the African slaves from Mali and other countries, apparently they were good treated because they could sing they're own music and their own language using moroccan instruments like "guembri" and in this days no one speaks their language because it changed from Malian language
And now they sing with Moroccan Arabic too but the rythm and The melody still the same

Les anciens gnaouas parlaient une langue bambara que personne ne parle aujourd'hui. Leurs chansons se sont transmises par nous les arabes mais pas la langue, donc personne ne peut comprendre ce que Bangoro veut dire...

Lyrics please 😏
This gnawa song is a mix between Darija (Moroccan Arabic) and Bambara (A mix of African languages brought to Morocco by slaves from Sub Saharan Africa and no one speaks this language in Morocco anymore) I know about this because my family are hereditary descendants of Gnawa slaves from Morocco (My father’s side of my family)
💪💪💪🔊
Med Staira ههههه هذيك اكويوا تاع طانطان
Please can someone told me what they say in the beginning ?
They start by this spirtuel :
God bless you, O Messenger of God.
And some word in old bambara language. I m moroccan but dont understand what that' means the bambara word "bangara"
@@mhm8113 thank you shukran bzaaf ya khoya
I wish i can understand every word but its hard then its not arabic or darija its sometimes something else
