Great video! The community generated content has brought TA into the RTS present. ProTA, a modded version, is compatible with the campaign, and adds a bit of challenge to it. All of this is available at TA universe.

It's great that there is a still a good community for the title, definitely an easy game to hop in and out of.

Bought this back in the day and later on GOG, still play it a couple of times a year. Timeless classic, that I feel I always discover something new on due to the license the game gives the player. Even improvising unit weapons for things they aren't strictly made for. Like in sea heavy missions, I'd lure enemy land units to enter the shallow water, and demolish them with torpedoes & depth charges before I sent in my land units to mop up. Also awesome attention to detail that made it feel ahead of it's time, like units able to still attack enemies they can't see, but are detected in radar.

Completed units can be told to go somewhere specific by clicking the move button while the builder is selected.
This was useful when I had multiple builders making artillery bots and immediately sending them to reinforce different defence points.

If you have never heard of it you should start playing Beyond All Reason (BAR) its TA made by fans, its free (not on steam yet) and its one of the most epic games out there

This looks amazing for the mid 1990s. At that time I was playing on my Sega Mega Drive and didn't even know anyone that owned a PC. I might have to pick this up and give it a go.

This was an awesome game. I do enjoy RTS games but I've always been terrible at them 😂
I used to enjoy playing on all-metal worlds so I could build a perfectly laid-out fortress with all the right defensive weapons at just the right places and then shell the enemy from across the map with the Arm's "Big Bertha" cannon.
It was pretty easy to create mods for, I made many new units to support my terrible playstyle, and got into 3d modelling to create (bad) models for my new stuff. And the soundtrack was incredible!

    • @azordash_games
      @azordash_games  4 месяца назад

Oh wow 3D models like tabletop models? That’s impressive! I have a casual interest in Table Top Games (40K etc) so always keen to hear about models.

@@azordash_games No, I just mean 3d models for the units in-game!
Although I guess now that 3D printers exist it would be fairly straightforward to bring them into the physical realm

Sadly nothing since has had quite the same magic.

I checked compilation videos of upcoming RTSs, and found that Industrial Annihilation and Sanctuary: Shattered Sun seem to have a TA/SC style.
I have Supreme Commander II on Xbox. But I think you guys should check BAR in the meantime. Because that modernization of TA, pretty much captured the magic if you ask me.
The only thing about it I'm a bit partial, is Resurrection Bots being moved to Tech 1. But all over things sounds good to me. Like artillery units not being able to fire backwards.

Yes, as said in the community post I've biked for a trip of a total of 2 hours to get it, and I think it was 25 euros then. I had to get it after I played it on my neighbors computer 😇
Indeed. Maybe we have the same feeling, the simplicity of management. Also have the same about the issues of pathfinding, I think I just clicked multiple times until it went the right way.
I also like the soundtrack a lot and listened to it just from the CD, and will do that this week again, but then just through RUclips.
My objective was mostly getting to have a Big Bertha which has a range like half of the map or something almost the whole map and shooting the enemy base right from home. And for air I think I made a big flock of Hawk's. I should play it again after I'm done with replaying Serious Sam's. 😃

That's definitely dedicated for the bike ride!
With regards to the pathfinding, I think back in the day, I didn't notice it because it was the 90's and you expected things like that... nowdays we are spoilt with advanced AI pathing and so on.
There are some definite cool things to build... I have the expansions as part of the bundle which I never played back in the day so I'm going to give them a go soon as they have quite a few extra units.
Oddly enough, I have never played more than about 30 minutes of Serious Sam... although many MANY people have told me I should check it out :D
