Not sure if you’ve already done this but I’d love to hear you compare/contrast the c5 vs c6. Not power wise as I know the c5 has much more but just the general feel between the two. Handling, interior and general characteristics. Great video!
I’ve owned both and currently still have my C6. No comparison. I loved my C5 but the 6 is vastly improved in terms of handling, ride quality etc… Now, I recently test drove a C8 and it makes my C6 feel ancient. Unfortunately, C8 is ridiculously overpriced.
All you gotta do is put on some 823 heads, a ls3 intake, and a ls9 cam. Then boom you've spent 3 grand in parts/labor and got something that'll put cars on anyother n/a v8
FWIW: The bat wing air filter elements can be turned over and placed on the opposites sides to lower them in the front compartment. The tapered fan shroud has to modified to accept the changes. GM claimed a 15% intake flow increase over the LS1 with the bat wing intake system and the LS2 exhaust manifolds were thinner for better flow and some weight reduction. Regards,
Interesting - if that works then I agree lowering the filter elements would be worth it IMO to lower average IAT's. I still think the LS2 maf vs LS3/7 Maf card is restrictive as well. I appreciate the comment!
A full c6 zo6/zr1 exhaust will flow better than an ls2 will ever need. No heat or fittment issues. Add a vacuum solenoid for the bi mode mufflers and you can go loud at the push of a button.
My 02 c5z is stock bottom end ls6 custom 238/242 cam, prc 227 heads, fast 102 intake, 1 7/8th headers, 4.10 gears. Only weight reduction was ccw classics front and rear, stock titanium exhaust removed and passenger seat removed just for the track. And it went 10.91@128.95 the density altitude that day was 6,800 ft, done at Amarillo dragway. The car is still gets 30 mpg on the highway and with the titanium exhaust on is very tame and docile. I’m sure if I ran at a better track with a negative density altitude the car would be deep into the 130’s
That's blistering! How's the drivability with that camshaft for day-to-day use? Seems like it might be a bit much for a guy who's 99.9% of the time on the street like me? And what was your 60 ft time, with 410 gears and the lower first gear in the M12 transmission, that's pretty low!
@ the car does have some mild surging but my tuner is not the best lol. I also have a ls7 maf with the halltech killer bee intake. And my trans is a built mn6 geared trans now, so it’s not too aggressive! It was pretty aggressive with the m12 that’s why i switched over to the base gearing. The 60ft was a 1.58, not the best launch, I’m sure I could go 10.60’s-10.70’s with a better launch. I would love to run at a track on the east coast in negative da and see if I could get a 9.9xx. That mn6 helped my 60-130 times being that the 3-4 split is not as long at the m12. The car also ran about dead even with my old c7z that was a8 with headers, cai it made 595 rwhp
@ the 60ft was ok a best the car bogged off the line and had a bit of wheel spin. I think i could 60 better with more seat time. And it has a dte trans/diff brace. Stock axles, tick billet tt couplers. C5z 3 rib diff with c6z internals 30 spline output shaft
I love all of your very informative videos. Silly me, I have questions. I currently have a C5 Z06 (you may recall my other comments) that I have had 7 months now and I have found a 2012 C6 Grand Sport (LS3) for sale. It had some right front damage and due to that it has a "Salvage Title" and is listed $5800 below Carfax value. It's also listed below what I still owe on my Z06 by $2000. Photos show a clean car but I will have a mechanic and my broker check it out. Now I will admit here that the Z06 with the 6 spd. manual transmission is for me a ideally suited trans vs. the GS 6 spd. automatic. I can live with an auto but what fun is that? Curious, with your knowledge what you think about going from the Z to the GS. Yes, there is a 9 year build differential and also the GS is only 12 years old. Also, the GS has 41k mileage where as I now have 72k in miles of smiles.
I would suggest driving the grand sport for as long as they will let you - and perhaps a friends as well - and see how you like it. Manual to Auto is a huge difference and 100% up to your preference. GS rear tires cost $$$. Salvage title cars are hard to sell. Aesthetics are key to - but SUBJECTIVE. Good luck!
You could, I hate to say it, but a small shot of nos 50-75, on these c6's it's huge gains and only when you want it, doesn't affect drivable just remember colder plugs and couple degrees less timing kits nowadays are a far cry to what we had in our early 20's...
@@Toys4Life I'd like to see you review a possible nitrous addition. Offer your thoughts, pro's vs con's etc. My car is so close to yours and I'm always interested in your thorough and informed videos because I'm often flip flopping on what to do with mine.
Well if you assume that power gains as a function of HP is linear (which its probably not, at least not exactly), the FAST got you roughly 15-20 hp and just under 2 mph, headers will probably get you another 20-25 ish which would net you another 2mph, which would get you to 117-118 at your density altitude. I don't know where the 119.9/122 cars were running, but I'd assume they were at sea level or close to it. You could also try giving it E85 since you are competent at tuning and probably have a decent supply of it in Minnesota. Maybe you put on headers/E85 and make a road trip to a dragstrip that's in New England to get close to sea level with cool air?
If you are in the market for a C6 Corvette, buy a 08 or newer so you get the LS3, nothing wrong with a LS2 but the LS3 is the sweet spot of the affordable LS based engines
Would this mod be just as effective as just buy and installing a cold air intake. I live in Cali where you can't ship cold air intakes here and not many options. Yea I could always get it out of state but getting state reffed for an intake is quite insane.
Not that it isn't related at all, but mile per hour is much more indicative of horsepower. If a guy put on drag radials, beefed up the transmission, had a prep track, I could shave a bunch of time off of the elapsed time but the mile per hour wouldn't move a bunch.
@@Toys4Life no but if you have the money for it, I’ll say get a ls3 all the way and if you don’t I’ll just save up a little more to get a ls3 even if it’s a base model and I’m not talking about you specifically but for any one that wants to get a c6 corvette, go for the 2008 And up 👍🏽 I mean the ls2 is a good choice too but if you want more power go for the ls3
No problem with that, I think you're missing the point of the video which is, they made more LS2 c6s then they did LS3s. Therefore, a lot of guys already have these sitting in their garage right now and just want a nice bump and horsepower and the LS2 is no slouch, easy to pick up that 30 horsepower difference between it and the LS3 and then some. It would be a major pain in the ass to sell your LS2 car, buy an LS3 car, pay taxes and potentially inherit someone else's problems which may have been the reason they're selling theirs.

Can't argue with this - excellent way to go!
For street use, your mods are perfect, only thing left is headers as I believe you already have an exhaust
you have intake , now to do exhaust , a pair of good headers will make the tri force to be close to your goal of 120 mph
I am thinking headers at this point might get me close to 117 mph?

C6 z06 headers, 3" midpipe, and 3" mufflers (any brand) on a LS2, manual. Struggle, but i got it in.
I like what you said 200hp gain Let's go A&A or Turbo... A&A black Friday purchase? Sounds like another supercharger installment video in the works🍿
2 easy mods... Twin turbos?! Haha. Good video and great info, thanks for sharing!
I feel like I am listening to talk of many different chocolates in a candy store! Now I want one and to sample the S.O.T.P. horsepower feeling!

Hey how do you get that great exhaust backfire during shifting? My C5 makes that too but only a little. Nice to hear from you
I think it's just the Corsa exhaust. I did not tweak the tune to make it do that.

That shirt is solid lol!
I had a H/C/I 2005 Corvette. 222/230 cam. The only time I ran a 1/4 I believe it was in 119 mph range...
That is close to 120. What elevation and air temps - do you recall?
@Toys4Life we were at Firebird raceway in Arizona.

Gotta put one of the cams we talked about in it… that Tesla was walking by you pretty quickly 😂
Or convert it to a Tesla plaid drivetrain (:-)

I think you are spot on! My strip is around 800 famsl I believe - so not too bad (:-)
Question? What are you using for shine? Both look great.
Secret wax. Actually, the lighting helps a LOT.
Headers, xpipe, flex fuel senser and tune and you get an easy 75-100hp that’s reliable
IMO that is a bit optimistic but worth a lot of HP nonetheless! thanks!
go to the track and press the traction button twice if you haven't tried that already
If you are in the market for a C6 Corvette, buy a 08 or newer so you get the LS3, nothing wrong with a LS2 but the LS3 is the sweet spot of the affordable LS based engines
Do you still have your Pontiac fiero
I do - curious, why do you ask?
Is there a reason you’d recommend the A&A supercharger over a pro charger or ecs?
I have had fantastic experience with A&A as have countless others. I do not have any 1st hand experience with ECS but hear they are very good.
Heres a thought - If you had an LS3 and spent the same amount of money and time on it WHAT WOULD HAVE HAD?
Well, the LS3 intake is good as is so you would have had to spend that money somewhere else. I would do a mild cam first on an LS3....
Would this mod be just as effective as just buy and installing a cold air intake. I live in Cali where you can't ship cold air intakes here and not many options. Yea I could always get it out of state but getting state reffed for an intake is quite insane.
Unfortunately, no. California is anti-car enthusiast - Is the word on the street.
Where does your C5 fit into the C6 list?
What do you mean?
🔥
How to do ls1 mods?)
Thanks for posting! Great video a usual. You and I could be brothers. Can I borrow your car? Brother?
I am not following how the MPH isnt also a factor of traction/skill off the line.

What's a hellcat? LOL... just kidding!

Go electric water pump!!!! 😊😊😊
Please elaborate.
@InTheHookJohn an electric water pump will free up at least 25hp+.
@@Furyataurus thanks for the reply. I'll look into that.
IMO closer to 12HP at high RPMs.
