Fabulous fun Vpub, format worked really well! Fun patter with the panel too! 9/10 in the quiz, so happy with that! Much love as always from the two of us
As pilots go, it was acceptable. I wonder what we'd lose by speeding things up? (I think it's worth the effort to try eh... 😅) Thank you as always Widdowsons!
Roy & Jim you guys are honest with your opinion on Irish Whisky I respect that honesty. I’m an Irish man myself and there is grown men crying to the heaven for vengeance at the state of Irish Whisky. Not surprised at Leo resigning as Taoiseach.
It's a weird one, I think produced by a lot of opportunistic over-excitement. I'm witnessing the same in Scotchland, don't get me wrong, but Irish seems particularly tricky right now - which is an argument for another take on a vPub... Cheers to you!
Jeff for President - definitely! The way he pitched his whisky choices was absolutely classic - tongue in cheek in the best sense of the word. Many thanks for the great fun! Cheers.
Thanks Andrew - a wee bit drawn out but it's the vPub after all, we're here for a wee relaxed session...! Thanks for participating and thanks for the kind words!
Daily Sipper: Arran 10 or Springbank 10. Arran is amazing value, flavour is great but just loses out to the SB in terms of complexity and length of finish (for me). I'm not a massive fan of the standard/trad bourbon cask whiskies, and for me SB is just a a very decent whisky, and would come second choice to a host of more interesting malts, and the Arran is it's equal due to the more interesting pina colada flavour I get. Impress Your Guests: if the guest is new to whisky it would be the Arran 10 to impress upon them how much great flavour you can get at an affordable price (this has impressed a few in the past and maybe converted them), if the guest is an anorak I'd pour them an Elements of Isla Sherry Cask @54.5 abv (three quarters Laphroaig to one quarter Coal Isla blend). Flavour. Best Mixer: probably a bourbon! I'm not rich enough to buy single malts for mixing. Sorry bourbon... Friday Night Sipper: Port Charlotte 10 or the Ardnamurchan Sherry cask. Both amazing drams that feel like a special reward to drink. Special Occasion Pour: I've got an un-opened Bladnoch 10 I'm saving for my 50th, and if I can find one nearer the time I might try a PC18 year (it would need to be a special occasion at that price!).
Solid set of recommends - some of them on similar lines to the participants on the night. I really hope that Bladnoch 10 goes down well and an advance happy birthday form me!
@@Aqvavitae Thanks for the birthday wishes - my 50th isn't for another 3 years though. I'm good at patiently sitting on something 🙂 It is my 47th this Monday, so I'll accept the wishes for then instead. Cheers!
Terrific fun Roy as a replay spectator, not just because everyone enjoyed themselves, but also for viewers to to hear about further quality drams ! I have a few & most I dont, but i do have 3 of the "Impress your guest", so I'm cheering. To be honest, they are my "Friday Night Pours". Cheers Roy !
RE:Daily sipping... I usually drink whisky from a "chupito" sized small shot glass that probably holds 2-3 teaspoons at most. Most evenings I do pour myself a dram, but it really is just a sip with a water chaser to take the edge off. At weekends I might open a bottle of wine and then I won't drink whisky until the wine is finished. It's good to highlight the dangers of daily drinking though, and if I'm honest I probably need a few more dry days a week. I'm hoping that as the weather improves I'll be out and more active but the winter is annoyingly conducive to staying in with a book and a sipper.
Spot on. We did a Health & Whisky vPub way back - but it's overdue to be covered once more... never a popular topic, but one that needs covered just the same! Cheers Leo
@@Aqvavitae yes, he's on RUclips. Professionally he's a writer (Will Jordan), who got into film and media reviews when the quality of which took an obvious turn for the worse, around 5 years ago. Since then has attracted almost 2 million subscribers. Also, he's Scottish, and very entertaining.
I love this format especially because the audience can participate in it. I couldn’t resist the Springbank jokers. I hope you do another of these perhaps with different categories.
I think if we revive it (if it's well received and a popular thing to do) I'd use the vPub categories we use for the What theIndustry Drinks series. Thanks for enjoying and participating Carlos!
Voted with my heart and it cost me. 12/20 (Cotswolds, Speyburn, WT101, Springbank Demi because of instant Scotland memories and SMOS 25yo) but loved playing along on replay. As for the quiz I'll leave it at Detached Antlers 😵 7/10 🦌
Ah 9/10 went with the crowd for the last two weeks on the trot the Ass Hats got the better of me! Loving the quiz though l, forces us to become better I. Our knowledge cheers Roy. @Aqvavitae
Cheers Iain, always difficult to pitch - and then to see how it plays out, but it should always be at least a wee bit of a challenge... the ass-hats are often juts brutal though... thanks for taking part!
@@Aqvavitae honestly Roy, being tested and a challenge to our knowledge is better than just ticking boxes. The subject matter as well was a great way to include the audience, I had my first couple of picks go with Jim, then it was the same choices as you proposed.
Super evening catching up on the v pub. Every bottle was great and quite a few i have never tried that are not on my watch list. Thanks all. Great line up of guests too.
That was a very nice vPub! I watched it all through (in more than one session) rather than skip over some parts, as I sometimes do when watching the replay! Yes, do that again, it was amazingly entertaining as well as educating! 9/10 in the quizz (the bleeding picture threw me off)
Really enjoyed this VPub! I got 8 for the quiz. After you explained the final question, I just couldn't help thinking of the end of that movie, the usual suspects 😂
Thank you, Roy, hilarious and delightful! My permashelf (if I needed any) held recently Glen Garioch Founder's (Roy, I appreciate your recommendation of stepping up with 12 y edition). But my bottle of G. G. (neither big nor bad whisky) does not fit in any of these five categories for me, ok maybe mixer (if I needed one). I enjoyed this vpub as replay, good stuff, absolutely!
