I had a dram tonight of UIG and a Corryvreckan (just one of each!!) and they are spectacular whiskies. I pay more in Vancouver and I know I have already shared that a few times but they are still a terrific deal for the high quality and the amazing tastes on the palette. The Ardbeg Ten is a frequent go to! I usually avoid the committee releases. I just did with the latest one - Anamorphic and I just heard of a very expensive pairing coming out 2 Ardbeg single malts. Too pricey and often just not worth it. But the core range is fabulous! Outstanding! Terrific video! Cheers Erik! 🙂
I will NEVER forget the first time I had an Ardbeg 10. That smokey bbq note just blew me away and it was so intense I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not. But I kept reaching for it and knew I loved it. I’m fairly certain the Oogie we buy now isn’t the same as the pours that won whiskey of the year 15 years ago. Maybe not even the same as 5-10 years ago. Whatever reason Uigeadail is my least favorite of the core #teamcory 🥃💨💨
True, Uigeadail and Corryvreckan are close competitors, I guess you could say (as a renowned whisky-writer did), Uigeadail "has a nose to die for", while Corryvreckan in my opinion has "a taste to die for " ;-) despite it being an NAS!
Thanks for the very informative video! As far as a top 3 when it comes to the core range; if money is no object and I am judging purely on taste alone, then I'd have to say: #3 = Ten #2 = Traigh Bhan (judging based on batch#2) #1 = Corryvreckan Judging based on "bang for your buck" scale: #3 = An Oa #2 = Corryvreckan #1 = Ten While I used to absolutely love the Uigeadail the last two bottles that I've had of it just didn't seem as good as the ones I've previously had over the last few years and with it being in the $70+ price range near me there's just too many other bottles to try or re-buy that are around the same dollar. I'm still and Ardbeg fan boy, I still buy into the hype... The last few special releases were very enjoyable to me, the Fermutation being my favorite; so until they produce an absolute stinker, I'll still plan on buying both the committee and any available 46% special releases that come out (this may be an unpopular opinion but I enjoyed the 46% Ardcore more than the Committee release strength this year). The plus side for me is all the special releases last a long time in my bar, since I gas them after I've enjoyed about 1/3 of the bottle and only drink them again with friends on Ardbeg day.
Great review as ever. Love the way you explain everything and bring the smell and taste to life which really is a difficult thing to do. Enjoyed the history of Ardbeg, quite some story! I think you will buckle when the next committee release drops 😂
I totally agree! Fantastic whiskies. I've already had the 10 and the Uigedal, both are amazing. Would love to try the Corryvreckan! The Wee Beastie was nice as well altough it is most certainly an introductory whisky.
Glad I’ve still got a couple bottles of Dark Cove left in the stash. Once the standard CRs went over $100 I quit buying them. I did get CR cask strength of Blaaack and Scorch for less than $150, but I agree with you that the prices have gotten outrageous on those bottles.
Uigeadail is my favorite based on taste and price, that being said the Cory is a very good whisky. I've drank many bottles of the uige, I'm not sure if it's changed slightly or if my tastes have.
To me, Uigeadail and Corryvreckan are so close and it is hard to say that one is better than the other for me. Sadly, the price of both of these have skyrocketed in my area. Uigeadail is going for $110 and Corryvreckan is going for $140. This is up by about $30 from where they were last year. The other three core bottles have been staying at their low prices.
Hello Eric. I'm looking to get another Ardbeg for my collection. Which would you choose: Blaaack, Galileo or Dark Cove? Both from the version with lower ABV.
Arghhhh. The price value ratio. The 10 is abdicating the throne. At $50 the Undisputed Champion for sure, but there is some competition at $60 . It's still not a budget whisky, not a "beginner's" dram, but the most significant step on anyone's peat journey. Personally, I'm not buying 10 or 12 year old much anymore, and on the other hand the Ugi and Corry tend to be to close to $100 +/- in my neighborhood. That's still a lot for an NAS.even though I'm tempted to get the Ardcore 46% at retail of $129, as it's also on sale $200. The only point is that the quality/value/experience ratio of the Ardbeg10 makes it the only must-have bottle from Islay. I feel kinda sad about their decline into the overpriced marketing conundrum. As I expect the upcoming Cairdeas releases to be over $100 and sold as 70cl. Erik, thanks for letting us go on the journey with you.
I had 3 bottles of ardbeg in 2021, the ten, an oa and uijgedail. But i didn’t enjoy them, they tasted way too young.. especially the an oa and uijgedail. I think ardbeg hasn’t invested a lot in good quality casks last years What i also dislike is that they have huge marketing around those limited bottles.. like the ardcore, which is a bad whisky. Way too young and unmature, and they ask almost 200 euro for it.. I will ignore ardbeg in the future..

Corryvreckan is magical. I mean it just blows me away. So incredibly complex.

Well done. Ardbeg 10 is one of my favorites. Great history and well told!

Ardbeg Uigeadail can still be had for $75 here in SoCal and that makes it my choice for top core range expression. 🥃
Nice video Erik!!! Went to an Islay tasting and uggie got me into smokey drams and never looked back!!! I love it even more than the legend Laga 16!!!
Excellent coverage of Ardbeg -- my goto Islay Scotch Whiskey.
I've had several with Scorch on my upcoming list.
Excellent history lesson and review of the 3 best Islay whiskies.
Thanks for the very informative video!
As far as a top 3 when it comes to the core range; if money is no object and I am judging purely on taste alone, then I'd have to say:
#3 = Ten
#2 = Traigh Bhan (judging based on batch#2)
#1 = Corryvreckan
Judging based on "bang for your buck" scale:
#3 = An Oa
#2 = Corryvreckan
#1 = Ten

Ardbeg 10yo. Greatest of all time.
I think so!

Favorite ardbeg uigeadail
Really cool :)
Uigeadail is my favorite based on taste and price, that being said the Cory is a very good whisky. I've drank many bottles of the uige, I'm not sure if it's changed slightly or if my tastes have.
Try blending 1 part Corry, 2 parts Bunna 12

I like the way you say fudge boi
Oooh fuuudge! Only I didn't say "Fudge." I said THE word, the big one, the queen-mother of dirty words, the "F-dash-dash-dash" word!
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies you said fudge too

Ardbeg 10 for the win, only ashame of de decline in quality.
I tried 10 and ugi. They are good whiskey`s. Sadly it's getting way too expensive here.
Where ISN'T it too expensive?
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies haha, well said

The beard, it grows! Haha
I was wondering if someone would notice. I'll return to the previous banner and bearded icon for my channel in September.
