Just tried it a month ago and now I'm on my 3rd bottle. Since my first sip, I've been inspired to explore more Islay whiskies, but Ardbeg 10 is still my go-to.
Ardbeg 10 is consistently one of my favourite Islay peated whiskies and I thoroughly love it! It's $113.00 now at my local liquor store in Vancouver but it's worth every penny. Creamy, buttery, smokey, ash, a hint of chocolate, a delicious tobacco with a fruity quality - this is a spectacular dram. Terrific video! So well done! Cheers!
About my hunt for serious peated whisky: started with Ardbeg 10 some years back that got me hooked on peated whisky forever. Since then have been on ventures for Islay and non-Islay peated whiskies. Many of them are way much more expensive than Ardbeg 10. Later encountered Corry, which to me is the pre-eminent peated whisky for any standard releases, price point aside. But we don't always reach for that kind of whisky daily for common dollar sense. So I always fall back on Ardbeg 10 as my go-to peated dram. It never disappoints and is still a steal for such a high quality dram.
Just bought this today wanting to try a new scotch. I was so blown away at how good and complex it is that I needed to find a review or something. This led me to your channel and I’m happy to have found it. Cheers my friend!
Decided to buy it after watching your review. Couldn't be more in love, I'm so impressed by its complexity and deep sea of aromas. You've got a new subscriber and Ardbeg's got a new faithful customer I guess!
This was one of the first of the non-chill filtered non e150 single malts I'd ever tried. The fact that it is a lovely smoke bomb on the palate w/all of the complexity in sweet & savory notes from Islay is by happenstance..... I will on that same coin admit that I discovered it by seeking out that peat smoke flavor.... Ardbeg 10 remains a TOP FAVORITE and one I must have in the scotch/bourbon/whiskey library............. GREAT REVIEW!!!
Sipping Ardbeg 10 (with a few drops of water) is like sitting beside a campfire on a small island in the Irish Sea, while bright stars sparkle in a black velvet sky.
This is my favorite whisky. Tastes way more expensive than it costs. Has a perfect balance with a little bit of everything from smokey to sweet. A true gem 💎
@@gregb8824 I got my Ardbeg 10 from Alberta for 69.99! The truckers give us a glimpse of hope in this dark time. Alberta people and businesses are great, but not the government. Pastor Pawlowski is arrested for the 5th time. Jason Kenney is ending the covid passport but keeping the qr codes...

Love the 10 one of my favorite for sure. Just got the an oa this week and I love it ! Tanks for all your great videos cheers and sorry for the long text
I have just brought home my first Ardbeg and chose your review to watch whilst I tasted it. Firstly the nose was not what I was expecting, I found it strange for a scotch. The first sip was WOW, smoot very smokey, different and most of all pleasent. Thank you for a great review.
I just bought a bottle and I really enjoy it. I can't put my finger on the smell. It's a distinctive fragrance, however I am not sure what it is. It's a little weird but a good weird. I scored the last bottle in the store
I just tried it because I watched Constantine for the 10th time and wondered what it was he was drinking. I’m typically a bourbon guy but appreciate the variety of whiskey. My review is simply that it’s a flavor to its own from my palette. I like it and wouldn’t kick it out of bed.
Lagavulin 16 (which I still love) originally brought me into the realm of peat but upon my first miniature of Ardbeg 10, I knew this was my jam. I'd like to try the Uigeadail and the Wee Beastie at some point, but the 10 is gonna become a staple in my cabinet for sure.
Uigeadal and wee beastie are both excellent. I got a uigeadal with the intention of only breaking it out on special occasions. Finished the bottle in two weeks. We beastie is the best bang for the buck.
Erik, after your advice I bought the Ardbeg 10yo. Just had the neck pour and I immediately fell in love with it. Can’t wait for the nose and flavor when it opens up a bit more. After what almost every body said I expected it to be way more aggressive but to me it wasn’t. Absolutely a must have.
My review of Ardbeg 10, my new favorite Nose: Heavy minty peat smoke in sea mist & tanned leather, hints of Scotch heather settling into a light chocolate-vanilla syrup & Irish moss on cast-iron-reduced tree fruit Palate: Smoked dark fruits & charred berries with a citrus squeeze, fresh baseball glove leather, ancient wood, cacao nibs giving way to ginger snaps Aftertaste: Oak, clove & spices, black pepper, natural rope, aged leather with cigar tobacco
Love your review! First one and it’s no nonsense, straight to point. No BS on nose, palette , finish etc as you are not even drinking it and getting high before you almost completed the review! Way to do a review. Cheers 🥂 and enjoy your Ardbeg. Keep more reviews coming. Personally I stick to Highland or Speyside. Recently tried Jura 10 and liked it, next time will pick up a bottle of Ardbeg.
Ardbeg 10 was my first Islay scotch and I became instantly hooked. I was enjoying mostly highland until then. These days though, since the Wee Beastie came out, you're ALWAYS going to find the Ardbeg 5 Wee Beastie, Ardbeg 10 and Glenmorangie 10 (still my favorite Highland) in my cabinet!! I like to keep at least one bottle from every region on hand. ;)
I haven't tried many Islay whiskeys, but Ardbeg 10 is my favorite so far. For my palate, I find it easy to differentiate the peat from the sweeter tasting notes. Some others that I have tried, the smoke seems to be attached to each of the other flavors.
Love it! With water to me this whiskey tastes like sludge and is unpleasant. But drinking it neat, I get the sea spray/brine, smoke, slight Earth, and even some citrus. No harsh peat flavors at all and it is absolutely delicious. Very savory. I'm just blown away at how the water completely changes the taste, at least for me.
Great video man! This one is now in my small but steadily growing whisky wish list (am very new to whisky, have mostly only tried different things out, and only own a few basic bottles)
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies I don't know if you already have a video like this, but what about "Top 10 beginners whisky" (or any number really) where you go over a few budget of every style of whisky, in my mind if should be a video for people who have decided that they want to get into whisky, but don't know where to start, so givng a few recomendations of each style that wont break the bank would be ideal. Would probably help people like me get a feel for what style of whisky they prefere and also give a starting point for growing your collection so you have one of each style (at least) so you can have something for everyone in case you have a freind over that like scotch and one that like burbon ect.
Ardbeg 10 was the first whisky that made me sit up and take notice. It was overwhelming I must say but after about 15 years it is indeed one of my go to whiskies. In the beginning I would add a drop of it to a cheaper scotch and that's how I got used to it. Right now I have 3 favorites. 1. The Balvenie double wood. 2. The Ardbeg 10 and 3. The Lagavulin 16. The Lagavulin 16 is a bit too expensive in Ontario so I stick to Ardbeg. Eric what do you think?
I’m really just starting out my whisky journey I have really enjoyed the likes of monkey shoulder, highland park 12, Belvenie doublewood 12, Aberlour etc but my first bottle I tried was a miniature of laphroaig 10 and oh man I did not like that peat just didn’t not expect it, but after a few months of of getting into a few different whiskies I recently got Ardbeg 10 and it is my favourite bottle so far out of everything I have tried that campfire aroma and the taste just lasts and lasts even till the next day 😃 it’s amazing stuff.
The first Islay I drank was the Laphroigh 10 (in 2005). A few months later I bought a bottle of Ardbeg 10, and was quite surprised by the smoothness and complexity. I could buy a liter for 35 Euros then, and for years it was on my list of best value for money whisky's, together with Lagavulin 16, Glen Elgin 12, Glenmorangie Cellar 13 (unfortunately discontinued) and Balvenie 10 (also discontinued). Now a 70 cl. bottle of Ardbeg 10 is 40 Euros in the Netherlands (and the 1 liter botteling is no longer availeble), and though it's still good value for money, it's a big difference, 22 Euros more expensive per liter... Partly due to taxes of course. However, I recently foud yor video's and I like them a lot!
Ardbeg is one great whisky for the price. I would like to see them do different variations of the 10 Sherry, PORT!, etc. I have a bottle of wee beastie in the cabinet... I’m excited to try a simple Ardbeg with a sherry influence. Also, I like how you put your videos together. Keep it up Erik! Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
Good video Eric. Everything you just said in my opinion is 100% spot on. The ratio of quality + price is very good. I actually love ardbeg 10. Ardbeg probably know that they have too keep the quality/price ratio good because it's probably their bread and butter whisky.
OK, gotta pick this one up and push myself a bit. I absolutely love Irish, Speyside and Lowland whisk(e)ys. Eric, how does this bottle compare to the Connemara peated Irish? Have to tried that one?
Connemara and Ardbeg 10 are like apples and oranges. They don't even feel the same. I have had a couple minis of Connemara and I wasn't thrilled with it.
I tend to only do comparisons when I think they may be similar or they are close inc category. If the Lagavulin Offerman was a 10 Year Old I would do a comparison.
Completely Absolutely Agree. I have most of the range.... have a library of old committee releases, the 19 yr TB .... the laphrioags sits in the cupboard ... Just get it.
Kilchoman sanaig taste quite similar like Ardbeg 10. But it might be, cause i am noobie in whiskey. Do you find similarities too? I had ardbeg 10 and Ugi. Both were great 👍
If you are new to peated whisky, then I would say, "absolutely!" There are whiskies with milder peat, but this one is more affordable. Try it and let me know what you think!
I'm new at this "barrel aging" thingy. My spirit of choice for nosing & tasting is "Old Smuggler" and "Ardbeg 10". School me please, what would I gain by aging and how long to age? Thank you kind Sir . . . ;)
The age statement on a whisky is relative to the climate. Climates with high and low temperature fluctuations increases the maturation rate as it increases the spirt's interaction with the wood. A 5 year Single Malt Whisky from Scotland is young, a 5 year Single Malt Whisky is "old." I could say more but it would require an entire video on the topic, perhaps I will do one!
Please please please.....nooooo ice. Slainte mhath 🥃🥃🥃.. ice in whisky absolutely KILLS IT. Bourbon can handle ice, but as a Scot , I shudder at the thought of ice in whisky. Love the channel.
I like that Ardbeg 10yo is 46% everywhere, unlike say Laphroaig 10 and Highland Park 12(40% instead of 43% for my region)...I was wondering whats your opinion on cognac, since you like wine and reviewed other spirits like rum but never any of the fine french spirit?Cheers...
I had to study Cognac and Armagnac for WSET exams. I like them but they're not my fancy at the moment. I've got enough alcohol beverage obsessions, I definitely don't need an "Erik Wait Cognac Studies" channel!
10 is perfect dram and hard to bit, like you said, quality and price and fun with their gift packaging. Cheers Erik! Actually, imho, all their core range very well priced and high quality.
Apples and Oranges. Lagavuin has a completely different character of smoke and peat as does Laphroaig but it is difficult to describe. Laphroaig is much more medicinal and briny and Lagavulin is more integrated into the whisky.
Heavy peat is a love/hate type product for most folks. I can't drink it neat but like it a lot on the rocks. My brother who has many more whiskies than I do literally hates the stuff. None of my Scotch drinking friends ever buy the stuff but most will drink it if offered, but not all of them. I personally have never had Ardbeg 10 but given the lavish praise of the Whiskeytubers will make it my next bottle.
Couldn't agree more with all of your points. I always find myself going back to the 10. If I were the owner of Ardbeg, (or a Texas distillery), you wouldn't be paying for another bottle. Cheers
WOW! Thanks! I now have more Texas whisky videos on my channel than the Texas Whisky Trail and the Texas Whisky Association! The people in the Texas Whisky industry have been super hospitable to me but I would NEVER expect any freebies. Ardbeg is owned by a major conglomerate Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy which also owns Glenmorangie Distillery and Champagne wineries so I seriously doubt they'd even give me the time of day.
I had the Ardbeg 10 in my early stages of whisky tasting. Wasn't a fan of the peated taste. Gradually I'm re-exploring the peat flavor again. I would like to and hope to build up my pallet to further enjoy these.
I know there are as many Ardbeg hardcore fans as Laphroiag hardcore fans. But I think it’s without a question who makes the better 10 year old: - The Ardbeg 10 is unchill filtered, natural color and bottled at 46% - The Laphroaig 10 is chill filtered, artificially coloured with E150a and is bottled at 40% While the Ardbeg 10 is still presented as a craft whisky, Suntory decided to present Laphroaig 10 as a supermarket shelf whisky. As long as they are doing that, I will always prefer the Ardbeg 10.
Oh god I feel stupid! I have the Ardbeg warehouse packaging and never realised what it was until now, maybe because I don't store it on the side so it never clicked
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies They weren't when I got mine (or maybe I was just at the right store at the right time). I'm in Australia and when I got mine there was a shelf of them but to be fair the warehouse boxes were slightly hidden, They were at the back of the shelf behind the regular Ardbegs. Best birthday present I got for myself a year ago (along with a bottle of Laphroaig).
Eric you are spot on today I bought a bottle of the yard back then but nominal beautiful beautiful Skype with me I mean the peat to smoke I can taste the citrusy notes saltiness it's a beautiful heated whiskey I love it I think I'm also going to buy a bottle of the Wii VC later down the line but I would like your what's your recommendation on the Ardbeg urgdall im sorry for the misspelling

Thank you kind Sir, maybe you should do one . . . ;)
Please please please.....nooooo ice. Slainte mhath 🥃🥃🥃.. ice in whisky absolutely KILLS IT. Bourbon can handle ice, but as a Scot , I shudder at the thought of ice in whisky. Love the channel.
Totally agree, just got a bottle of Ardbeg Uigeadail, and was bit disappointed, the 10 is much nicer taste
Absolutely the best whisky money can buy.
My favorite whisky depends on what day it is, but Ardbeg is in my top 3
The best really...Thanks...
Glad you like it!
Great bottle. Let’s hope the newly introduced Wee Beastie 5 yo doesn’t push the price up too much. Just picked up the ode to Shortie gift packing.
I am searching for the Wee Beastie morning, noon and night!
Only had Ardbeg just now.... Will probably get use to it... But I prefer Dalmore 12 which is so beautiful
I agree 100% Had a dram of the Cory last night, it had been a while. OMG! I had almost forgotten how awesome it is!
This is good stuff but I prefer to spend about $10 and go for Port Charlotte 10. Non chill filtered and natural color and %50 ABV...
How does it compare to Lagavullin?
Apples and Oranges. Lagavuin has a completely different character of smoke and peat as does Laphroaig but it is difficult to describe. Laphroaig is much more medicinal and briny and Lagavulin is more integrated into the whisky.
Erik Wait Thank you! I look forward to trying it!
Ardbeg 10 is lovely. I think the Port Charlotte 10 ius a little nicert, but it's also $20-25 more, so on balance,I'd give it to Ardbeg.
I'm digging the Metal Gear-esqe opening for this video.
Agree, this is #1.
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies I'm certain LVMH can afford to give a great ambassador some free whisky 🥃
I love both bourbon and scotch but nothing beats a peated whisky such as Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg!
I had the Ardbeg 10 in my early stages of whisky tasting. Wasn't a fan of the peated taste. Gradually I'm re-exploring the peat flavor again. I would like to and hope to build up my pallet to further enjoy these.
I don't need convincing as I am already an Ardbeg 10 man. But I'm watching anyway.
LOL!
I’m torn between Ardbeg 10 and Laphroaig 10 depends on my mood. However hands down best pleated whisky is Uigeadail! My lord what a Dram!
I know there are as many Ardbeg hardcore fans as Laphroiag hardcore fans. But I think it’s without a question who makes the better 10 year old:
- The Ardbeg 10 is unchill filtered, natural color and bottled at 46%
- The Laphroaig 10 is chill filtered, artificially coloured with E150a and is bottled at 40%
While the Ardbeg 10 is still presented as a craft whisky, Suntory decided to present Laphroaig 10 as a supermarket shelf whisky. As long as they are doing that, I will always prefer the Ardbeg 10.
Oh god I feel stupid! I have the Ardbeg warehouse packaging and never realised what it was until now, maybe because I don't store it on the side so it never clicked
Cool! The warehouse editions are challenging to find here in the USA.
I agree.
I was shocked at how good Wee Beastie is!
After the bottle has been open over a year, Wee Beastie really improves.
Cool, and in easy to understand English 😃
Thanks! 😃
Sipping , mine as I watch. My fav ^^
Yeah i agree erik , never without a bottle
Love the 10
It's The Breakfast of CHAMPIONS!
