Fun Vpub this evening roy, always grand to see you and Roddy riffing together ... magical! A was nice in the quiz too! See you in a couple of weeks 🥰! Much love as always from the two of us
As always, great to see Roddy taking a seat behind the bar and shooting the breeze on whisky topics, all and sundry. Many thanks, Roy, for getting him back on again and trying out his blending skills. Just a couple of quick comments on blending at the Glencairn level. Take a standard 25ml dram of Tomatin 15yo (ex-bourbon, American Oak Casks, 46%, Travel Retail, purple presentation box) which is quite a reasonable whisky in its own right, but has a tannic and extractive aftertaste, which spoils the pleasant nose and the promising arrival on the palate. Add two teaspoons of Highland Park 15yo (from the white ceramic bottle) and that tannic aftertaste disappears completely - creating a superb blended malt. With other drams I don't particularly take to, I normally try adding a teaspoon of Caol Ila 12 to the glass. Often it improves the result. Overly sherried drams can benefit from this as it tends - at some point - to cut through the complete dominance of the sledgehammer sherry cask. If I want a tad more oomph, then I'll add some Ardbeg Ten. Cheers.
Perfect Russell, and the best way to start it off - blend in the glass with the minimum of risk. I don't have the TOmatin 15, but I do have the HP, I'm tempted to try it!
I was one of the lucky few to win the good spirits ballot for the Kilkerran 17. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to get it. Still to open, but I'm waiting on a special occasion. I'll see you at the club on the 24th!
Caught up on replay, grest watch & good to see Roddy behind the bar! Roy, 😊the next Aqvavitae bar fly release should be a blend by your good self! Cheers 🥃
Had to drop out after an hour or so, but it offers me the big benefit that I now can kick back on my birthday with an extended Roddy & Roy session. I don't think there are many things that would surpass that 🤩 . Slainte mhath
A single blend indeed! I often try belding single malt at home from the same distillery - it remains a single malt. I once mixed a Hazelburn, a Springbank and a Longrow (to great effect) and declared it a single malt... which it was. Lots of disagreement around the table though. Cheers Zac!
Catching the replay with my patented Glen Bogan which is Glenallachie 10 cask strength and Cu Bocan creations 1. Ended up really floral, rich and gentle peat on the end.
🪄 There's definitely something to the phrase "the whole is greater that the sum of it's parts." Roddy and Roy chats are a special kind of magic. I'm catching up on replay and I can't get enough. Great vPub! That New Zealand bottle you pulled out reminded me of the fabulous video FirstPhilWhisky put out recently with Wade from McIntyre'sMalts on Australian and New Zealand whisky. Worth a watch if you haven't seen it already. Hope I can find some in my neck of the woods. I'm excited for another flavor chase! Slàinte Mhath
finally took a moment to do the quiz on the replay and damn... that was a hard one! only got 5/10. Gotta do better tonight So many distillery specific questions, I really should visit them all some day! Thanks again Roy
Hello, blending is a good way to pimp some disappointing whiskies into a delicious mix. My last version was mixed with Glenfiddich 21 Rumcask, Auchentoshan 21, Linkwood 100 Proof #19 and some Caol Ila 100 Proof. If you like it sweet, put a little sherry inside 😉
My Infinity bottle contents at the moment: JW Green Label 15yo, Glencadam 13yo, Signatory Teaninich 12yo, Arran Quarter Cask, Balblair 12yo. So far, it smells and tastes pretty good)

Enjoyed the banter, great to see Roddy again, thank you

Wonderful vpub.
Scored 10/10 and watching the start again on replay

GSC are all integrity, I'm very grateful to have them as a hub of whisky community in Glasgow

This made me revisit my own blends. My funky sherried whisky blend now hit that sweet spot as well. Happy days.
Isn't it amazing what a wee bit of marrying time does? Cheers Tim

Happy Birthday Menno!!

Happy birthday dear Meeeeh-noooooo!
Enjoying the replay while sipping a “single blend” I put together - Loch Lomond Peated Grain and Loch Lomond 12. Surprisingly good!

Catching up on the rest of the vPub after the OSWAS nominee reveal. Nice end to the day, with a dram at hand!
Thank you for your dedicated service Major!
Well here’s a thing. The monkey matched Roddy and Roddy more than doubled my score. Good fun.
More work required Michael! Keep at it!
It’s always a good time when Roddy is aboard. Never disappoints. Glad he is well.
Cheers Carlos - enjoyed as always!

I'm looking forward to trying that wee New Zealand bottle, and already a fan of Phil! Thanks for enjoying Geoffrey!

Absolutely. Not tried adding pure sherry though, although I have done it in the glass, not for me. Maybe I used too much...
I'm standing by my choices!! 😉😉
Now that you know you're wrong? that's just stubborn!
@Aqvavitae Reassuringly my choice is nominated for an OSWA 🤔😉🏆
Hi Roy, watching this reminded me that I should take a look at my infinity bottles which have been on the go for many years. Slàinte to you and Roddy.
Let us know how you go David!
What a wonderful t-shirt Roddy has on! I wonder who on earth designed and made it…. 😉 🥃
Ooooh...! Am I missing something David?
@@Aqvavitae I created them to help fund my Kentucky adventure earlier this year 🤠
Cheers 🥃
Cheers to you too!
Catching up on the replay.
I like the word footering used by Roddy here 23:35
We like to footer aboot. Cheers Fraser!
7/10 in the quiz matching the Roddy pass mark. I feel like I've graduated.
Another Roddy classic ... his appearance fee must be astronomical by now!
For Roddy: I think a rye or spicy whisky could go good with grenadine! Good luck with your cocktail. ;)
ps. was a great session Roy
You're encouraging him! (Or baiting him?) I wonder what he'll serve me up next...
@@Aqvavitae haha, like to have the Roddy recipe and try it myself. 🥃
