Welcome to this walking tour around the Altar of the Fatherland, also known as the Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II, located in the heart of Rome, Italy.
As we begin our tour, you'll notice the grandeur of this monument, which was built in honor of the first king of a united Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II. It was inaugurated in 1911 and has since become an important symbol of the nation.
The monument's main feature is the large white marble structure with a statue of Vittorio Emanuele II on horseback at the top. From here, you'll also have a stunning view of the Roman Forum and the Colosseum.
As we walk around the monument, you'll see the various sculptures and reliefs that adorn it. These depict important events in Italian history, such as the unification of Italy and various battles that were fought to achieve it.
We'll also explore the interior of the monument, which houses the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This solemn memorial is dedicated to all the Italian soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War and other conflicts.
