Apart from mini there are many, flaws in the reasons. Platform sharing is something all manufacturers do. Real reason for tata rise is their learnings especially from JLR. Their designs have improved and quality as well. Price point is also right.
Being a mechanical engineering student from IIT I can understand what he said. The life of mechanical engineers are also as adventurous as an automobile company
I purchased a TATA Nexon and the only hiccup I faced so far was related to the second key. They had not given it at the time of delivery. Apart from that the experience has been good.
Please file a case, if not you cannot claim any insurance, if your car is stolen police will ask for both the keys and you will loose alot of other Benifits too.
Before Nexon EV were build and launched, TATA build a small fleet of INDICA EV in UK and ran the concept for the unit on UK road and were able to test the vehicle. This helped transfer the knowledge to INDIA and find local suppliers and build Nexon EV. and the Platform provides with flexibility of different wheelbase as well so you can make longer wheelbase and shorter wheelbase cars from the same platform. due to the limitation of this the 2 platform was created as there is limit to how much you can change without affecting the structural integrity and safety. Safety was one of the main targets for the platform. Many years have been put in developing the platform with a lot of future planning. Good summary though.
Other than money, we choose specific car due to the differentiation factor that the model carries. If what separates them no longer exists then there is no point in opting for one or the other. There exists a very thin line between cheap and affordable, and Tatas have failed miserably once in past in recognizing it (with its Nano).Tatas have to be very careful this time and have a balance of this strategy as well as communicate it properly to the market.
Appointing Karl Slym as a MD was a game changer for Tata Motors. (using common platform for multiple products, Strategic change in entire Supply chain management and overall change in Tata dealer buying experience across India) And Highly under rated person Cyrus mistry. Their stint was short. But, they entirely shook the government style approach of Tata motors in R&D and manufacturing processes. And in 2018, I told my other Tata colleague, we will be turn around story by 2020 - 2021. Unfortunately, both of them no more 😑 They didn't believe in me. Now the reality is front of everyone...!!!
Platform sharing is an old concept. Almost all carmakers have adopted it. It appears that TaMo are in the middle of its adoption. I think the real reason is the leadership of N Chandra, who made the Tata group cos. help each other, which was not happening before.

🙏Namaskaram, I've been watching your videos, and very much inspired by your work "Think School" team. As I'm passionate of automobile industry, I'm a huge fan of Tata Motors in fact Tata Group. And my request for you is - 🙏Please make a video on TVS company. Because I also want to know more about this company. Please make Videos on TVS Company , TVS Motors, etc.,. And what are the Failures, Successes and Challenges - TVS faced while the company started in the year 1911, by T.V. Sundaram Iyengar.🙏
You explained this so amazingly. I am following details of automobile industries growth and fall. And today you explained growth of TATA motors it is amazing. Please make about fall of Ford in India and other manufacturers. It is interesting topic.
I'm sure Think School put in an extensive research before arriving at this, but this is one case where I have a different take on the scenario 1. Platform sharing: Nearly 2/3rd of the video talks about platform sharing and how it brought costs down. Yes it's something which was necessary and TATA should have adopted this earlier, but its not what gave them the edge over competition. The Japanese are the golden standard for platform sharing, and Maruti has been doing it for years! (funfact: The door latch and power window switch on 15 year old swift matches the recently launched teach loaded Ertiga/Brezza.) Same goes with Toyota - the king of platform sharing with Innova and Fortuner built on same platform! Tata was slow to pick it up. 2. More money Per car: It is a very interesting metric to pick, but is it really painting the right picture? Tata sold 45,200 cars in June 22, out of which 31% was driven by Nexon - a midsegment car. The per car profit is obviously gonna be higher as Maruti sells volumes in the entry level segment. If more money per car is gonna be the metric, Mercedes, BMW, Kia and almost all minor players will beat Maruti in this metric. 3. Focus on EV: This is something that I agree. TATA took the early mover advantage and established themselves as an EV brand. The trouble here is that Nexon EV is known for its unreliable battery range, to a point the government stepped in and removed subsidy. Is moving fast really sustainable then? What's my take? MARKET TRANISTION: The industry leader Maruti decided to strategically shift their focus to EV. They collaborated with Toyota and is working on Strong Hybrids and Electric powertrain R&D. They decided to completely focus on future and gave up on the current market - a transition stage. While others like TATA reworked on the FIAT-sourced 1.3L multijet diesel engine to make it BS6 compliant and use it on Nexon, Maruti gave up on Diesel Engine altogether. The impact of this can be seen in poor mid-segment sales. With a single 1.4L K series engine powering everything from Brezza, Ertiga, S-cross & Ciaz, the competitors took advantage and Maruti lost market share. Even the all new Brezza and Ertiga are facelifts of previous generations and not a major revamp. Nexon gained in C1 segment and Creta in C2. The Future? Unlike most established players, Maruti did not stay idle and milk on current technology, they're trying to leap frog straight to electric powertrains and skip this transition years. If they pull it off right, in the joint venture with Toyota, consumers will shift back to Maruti in a couple of years. TATA got their short term strategy right and they have a winner - The Nexon. But will it hold? We'll have to see.
Subsidy is rolled out to early adopters. Nexon range is good once people get used to it. Tata already have shown with curvv and Avinya what they are going to bring in future. From 25 onwards I can see tata motors capturing Indian automobile market as top player. Once the deal with Argentina for lithium finalised, they will make batteries also . They are already investing in chip market and utilising tech from jaguar land rover. The only negative for them is declining sales of Jags.
After watching this video literally anyone can start their own automobile company😀 this is why we call think school the free mba school, thank you ganesh and parsh bhaiya and the think school team.

The only reason we as a customer don't want to put money in Tata is the after sales service which is very poor. I had my own experience...we went to tata showroom to book 2 cars but the kind of experience we had while having interaction with the frontline people was very disgusting..that small thing changed our mind not to invest in Tata. I personally think Tata has really done R&D on their car's and they have really come up with superb car design...but what matters to the customer is the kind of interaction..the kind of after sales service offered by the showroom..and I think they fail in this section.

The Game changer for TATA has been NEXON. A robust vehicle which has not only been Tara's best seller, but has been one of the best seller car accross all segments! It was the first Indian car to receive 5 star GNCAP ratings and since then SAFETY and TATA became synonymous.
Strategy of TATA: 1.Marketed hard to link products with nationalism. 2. Spent crores for negative campaigns against rivals using youtube and other social media indirectly. 3. Its common now a days for businesses to link the things with emotions but tata did it insanely
I'm a big fan of Tata and I hold Tata motors shares, but the reality is major chunk which is around more than 80% of their revenues come from JLR only, so when these products starts bringing good profit, Tata's can achieve net debt free goal
Tata cars are only good in showroom. Their after sales and control on dealerships is poor. Their service partners lack training, lack spares supply which are often delayed and lack professionalism. I am an owner and this has been my experience after trying out several of tata authorised service partners
Amazing content! Really funny to see how a few stupid gaming channels can have more subscribers than you. You deserve a lot more attention based on the content that you make. No words for your research and the efforts that went into it. Awesome! man. Keep up the good work.
Brilliant strategy! We're definetly long on this business and he done a decoding of our own too! Looks like a 30% upside possibility with this EV-olutionary shift!
Tata should adopt Toyota's lean manufacturing and other techniques like 6 sigmas, kaizan for their manufacturing. Only this can make their cars reliable, long lasting. it also enable faster development while reducing overall expenditure.
Bro almost all the company including Tata use these techniques. Just using these won't solve the problem. Tata needs to work on their R&D, QC, and customer service and support.
Except Toyota's Just-In-Time inventory model has failed terribly. In 2022, covid lockdowns caused major disruptions to the supply chains. While companies like Tesla had huge inventory and in-house manufacturing, they were able to continue making thousands of vehicles, while Toyota closed its factories due to parts shortages and kept staring at its suppliers.
@@anantraj706 if they had used it effectively, such issues wouldn't appeared in first place. Tatas strategy clearly looking confusing, they sometimes plan something but launched something else, RnD and testing also taking more time than ideal. When product launched it often felt as a half baked product.
Ganesh, you missed one thing, Maruti profit margins are low becoz most of the cars maruti made are actually small cars which with lesser margins. So they play on Volumes.
If you can add a simple "Jai Hind" at the end of the video, it will send waves of pride. For this channel is run by two young Indian entrepreneurs.. A learning experience for every one. Carry on the good work, folks. 👌🏻👌🏻
One of the prime reasons for this is their stratergy....of having variants that can suit almost everyone's need....mind you all tata nexon had 60 variants at a time and now has 55 variants in its name. Plus the way tata has significantly invested into the ICE and EV market has helped it to make its name in people's consideration list. Plus it was also helped by poor and unplanned moves by leading automakers like Maruti suzuki and Hyundai because only 7 new car launches were shared between the two and tata motors alone showcased more than 10 cars in these two years which allowed people to know Tata's enthusiasm in the market. And also the outgoing of foreign car brand exits and Vocal for Local campaign both helped Tata motors and Mahindra to gain sales. More interesting fact that Tata motors have more EV launches planned than other car brand's ICE launches which gives it a major first mover advantage. Also the car safety which Tata has undertaken very carefully now seems to ignite the understanding of safety in many Indians before they buy a car. But the other side of the story is that they still lack behind every car maker in terms of reliability and features...the automatic gearbox available in lower end cars such as nexon tiago and tigor is just rubbish and also not upto the standards...the infotainment system is shared between 5 cars(nexon, altroz, tiago, tigor and punch) which is another disadvantage because customer doesnt get a plush feel for the premium paid. The naturally aspirated engined used in tiago, tigor, altroz and punch lacks mileage, fun-to-drive element and reliabilty. In short the downsides of Tata motors is that they have invested in product diversity and their portfolio but they have merely invested in the core technologies of a car.

@@sirajpatel1768 not burden man , they are unable to handle it smartly. In that way you might say Tata motors was burden on Tata yrs ago . Even at same time German makers are making it way smartly.
@@sirajpatel1768 may be but JLR is under tata for more than 15 years now . No other giant was able to retain JLR for so long as JLR always remained as subsidiary of other brands only. Tata never interfaces in working of JLR and let them work as independent unit onky
Loved the statement - People in India are price sensitive not life sensitive.. bang on.. couldn't have been articulated better
The one thing which is pulling back Tata is its after sales service.
And the 3 cylinder engine.
Been using Tata Vehilce since 2018, Honestly I uave never faced any service related issues. Prior to Tata I have used Maruti and Ford. Maruti is pathetic in terms of service ... Its always crowded and chaotic in Maruti Service centre, Ford was better
Fake comment spotted
I dont agree. We have tata indigo 2013 model.. Its been 9 years but never feel any after sale issue
True
Very Informative!!. As an Indian I support TATAs, because they are blessing for our country.
Thanks a lot think school.I had requested for one such video on tata motors way back in November 2021,shows how much effort and research you all put in for 2 videos a week..Thanks a lot
It makes me feel really proud that I am a NexEV owner and TaMo shareholder.

Ratan Tata Sir 🇮🇳❤️💎

Platforms also have the E&E(electrical and electronic) systems, which is by far one of the most complex and costly part of the vehicle.
We own a tata Nexon ev, and i have to say guys....this is by far one of the best cars we bought.... firstly because our fuel costs monthly was about 20-50k....after the EV came in the house...it's merely 10k and most importantly...it's a very fun-to-drive car. Love you tata ❤️
Monthly Fuel cost of 20-50k? Wow that's a bit much right.
@@nikilkumar1000 we had 3 diesel cars and daily drive of 50-60 km :)
10 k for electricity??
Have a solar panel may be 70% of it also be saved
@@MissionCA101 no...I'm talking about the diesel costs of our family now...not the electricity 😂 we still need diesel cars for longer distances and sometimes when more than one car is needed .....so yeah ..
Apart from mini there are many, flaws in the reasons.
Platform sharing is something all manufacturers do. Real reason for tata rise is their learnings especially from JLR. Their designs have improved and quality as well. Price point is also right.
I was wondering the same
Also Hornbill is now launched as Punch, my man is just reading a very old article it seems...
Being a mechanical engineering student from IIT I can understand what he said. The life of mechanical engineers are also as adventurous as an automobile company

All this sounds so nice until you visit a Tata Motors Service Centre 💀💀💀
I purchased a TATA Nexon and the only hiccup I faced so far was related to the second key. They had not given it at the time of delivery. Apart from that the experience has been good.
Because of chip shortage
Please file a case, if not you cannot claim any insurance, if your car is stolen police will ask for both the keys and you will loose alot of other Benifits too.
Proud to be a TATA Employee 💯
You are an amazing presenter. Rich in details but less taxing on the intellect of a commoner like me. Keep going 🙌👌🏼🎉
Appointing Karl Slym as a MD was a game changer for Tata Motors.
(using common platform for multiple products, Strategic change in entire Supply chain management and overall change in Tata dealer buying experience across India)
And
Highly under rated person Cyrus mistry.
Their stint was short. But, they entirely shook the government style approach of Tata motors in R&D and manufacturing processes.
And in 2018, I told my other Tata colleague, we will be turn around story by 2020 - 2021.
Unfortunately, both of them no more 😑
They didn't believe in me.
Now the reality is front of everyone...!!!
Hoping to see TATA and Mahindra at the top Our money Our companies. ❤️
I love Tata, since decades they've been a trusted brand ❤
Mind blowing. Fascinating stretegy - how same family companies works to support each other
Platform sharing is an old concept. Almost all carmakers have adopted it. It appears that TaMo are in the middle of its adoption. I think the real reason is the leadership of N Chandra, who made the Tata group cos. help each other, which was not happening before.
2:53 That really sums up the reason of dominance of maruti suzuki in India.
Whenever i buy my 1st car it would be TATA , no matter what ❤️
The only channel where I get concise information ,ur research level is next level, thanks Ganesh bro

I was looking for a channel who does regular case studies in English for a long time but couldn't find one . There were some like Dr. Bindra but it was in Hindi and he shouts too much. Others were foreign channels so they didn't make case studies on the Indian content but then I came across this channel and it blew my mind . Everything's perfect down here . All the data is research based , the videos are upto the point and most importantly they are based on the current affairs and you even get the study material if you want to dwell deeper in the topic .
Platforming will help in reusability & also launching new products quick to market and also give edge in manufacturing price .. Major success of TATA is they focused on design aspects and aesthetics also able to launch multiple models in recent times while other competitors are not able to launch many models.. Land Rover take over helped TaTa to change their design
ThankYou So Much TATA MOTORS nhi Balki Pura TATA GROUP humm sbko Inspire krne kaee liye India Ki Growth maee Contribute krne kaee Liye ThankYou So Much

One day definitely I will buy it for Mine ❤️
A remarkable revival by TATA Motors; and a well researched case study by your team.
🙏Namaskaram,
I've been watching your videos, and very much inspired by your work "Think School" team.
I'm sure Think School put in an extensive research before arriving at this, but this is one case where I have a different take on the scenario
Great Businessman 🌺🙏👍🇮🇳
After watching this video literally anyone can start their own automobile company😀 this is why we call think school the free mba school, thank you ganesh and parsh bhaiya and the think school team.

Fantastic episode. Really appreciate your research that goes behind each and every information.

Hi Ganesh, Could you do a case study of mahindra bringing in old motorcycles like yezdi, jawa, bsa to life again through classic legends.
Your RnD skills... Video editing skills... The way you start... The way you make viewers more curious... The way you end... The background music... The clips... All together make it a gem.
The only problem is, I want to share your videos with my father and other family members, but they don't know English. I have to tell them what you were sharing on videos but I cannot do that much effectively. Can you please make it in Hindi. There must be people like me due to this reason, they skip sharing the such a informative content.
Appreciate your hard work, and keep making such a content.

I feel like an MBA degree is pointless as long as Think School keeps pushing out these banger video case studies
Mark my words Tata will revive air india in such a way that air india will dominate indian aviation industry. Tata is indian economy engine. Wish Tata takes over bsnl and revives it.
How is this a "GENIUS STRATEGY"? Pretty much every car company seems to be following the platform strategy. If anything, this seems like Tata is just catching up now and is late to the game. The agile fashion of rolling out EVs, however is commendable.
Toyota/Maruti are rolling out EV mode in their car also.
Less see the competition
Nailed it , I didn't expect such level of high quality graphics and detailed technical analysis .... you have leaped ahead than most of your co-creators by miles kudos very good work here 👍

Great stuff man. Watching this from Tata motors plant in Jamshedpur makes feel something I can't even explain.
Yes there relationship ship manager are overconfident and not much knowledge they had
And in my city they sold a 2 year old tiago as brand new in 2022
Also service station is like the roadside type
That is because all these years they had only cab drivers to deal with
One of the best videos on the channel! Great work!🎉🎉
If Tata brings a 4 cylinder engine and improve its service, they will easily beat Maruti.
@Sreekanth my dad bought the 2.2lit 4cyl 156hp 400nm tourque tata hexa when it was launched
we still own it and it was my advice
the reason tata discontinued that engine is because it ate turbos easily and caused high maintainenece

Same concept applies to any multi brand business. “Build once and configure as needed” philosophy
Seeing this after IIM Bangalore shows this video to their students. Very informative and well presented bhaiya
The Game changer for TATA has been NEXON. A robust vehicle which has not only been Tara's best seller, but has been one of the best seller car accross all segments!
It was the first Indian car to receive 5 star GNCAP ratings and since then SAFETY and TATA became synonymous.
what u meant by "first car to receive 5 start GNAP" ? GNAP only tests indian and african cars..also its not a govt regulated agency .
One of the best case study by think school ! Amazing presentation just loved the video .
Strategy of TATA:
1.Marketed hard to link products with nationalism.
RUclips is also one of the reasons for Tata's growth in automobile market.
What the fuck ur saying brother reliable and long lasting acha acha lgta ha tere pass Maruti ki gaddi ha tata ki hoti to ye nhi boltaa 😂😂
Not Toyota, now tesla is the benchmark.
Your Case studies are very addictive ❤

Looking forward to more such content. Cheers to the Think School team!
Excellent work. I appreciate sharing of the study materials. Which could help viewers in lots of way. Good One.
