    Paul opened his setlist on his 89/90 World Tour with this one. It has a nice groove, but it's not very memorable. What is interesting about this song is that the single version is 2 minutes longer than the album cut. Usually radio edits are shorter. The touring band plays on the longer single version, but not the album version.

    The second track Paul did with Trevor Horn and Stephen Lipson, great track, Paul’s vision was to do a live-in-studio kind of song with Chris Whitten, this is the ending result. I would recommend listening to the Bob Clearmountain mix, that one rocks even more. But this version, it’s only Paul, Chris, Trevor and one other person, the touring band plays on the remix version.
    I would also love to say that I’m also a singer that plays Bass, and yeah, it’s fun doing both at the same time took me less than a year to train myself to sing while doing bass lines live, always wanted to be McCartney and he does it all with Grace.

      @triplejazzmusicisall1883 Месяц назад +1

      I agree the Bob Clearmountain mix is the best. It has a nice chime sound with the backing vocals especially the chorus. We get more vocal chorus than guitar. I love the clarity of the vocal lines 'Is it better to love one another than to go for a walk in the dark, is it better to love than to give into hate, yes we'd better...' I find the album version muddied and Paul's vocal too overkill. Bob's remix gives it a vibe, energy an overall feel that is more harmonic, for this listener anyway. Take care and have a top day tomorrow. This One will be That One tomorrow. Love the Artwork McCartney was using on these singles back then. I think he could have put out the perfect pop song back then and it would barely chart. Remember all the variations of this release with different B-side material on each one?

      @@triplejazzmusicisall1883 I have both versions of This One on 12”. Version 1 with The First Stone, I Wanna Cry and I’m In Love Again; Version 2 with Good Sign.

      @PaulinaAngel That's cool. Yep, one has the Asian god on a swan upon a white background and the other with the blue-sky rainbow, and the ornate border edging. The 7-inch had both but also one (with the postcards) of plain white, no image except the tapestry line going down the right side, and the cd too. He certainly gave us choice. I think of all the B-sides I like I'm In Love Again - an outtake from The Russian Album. As for Figure of Eight had three main 12 designs including the etching of the old English couple, the mainly white cover with the band gracing the top and that lovely peachy coloured version, sort of French style. It was a great time to collect 12 inches. There was also the mini single too and the usual 7-inch vinyl and regular cd release. Do you think the two fellows will include OU EST LE SOLEIL in their reviews? They never seem to reply to anyone and as great as they are, seem not to know as much as those who comment. Maybe that's their intention - to find out more from fans. All the best you! as Paul might say.

    Another reason why you should absolutely tackle the Tripping The Live Fantastic live album after finishing with Flowers In The Dirt:
    The live version of Figure Of Eight on that album is far far superior to the album cut, and also to the single version.
    Also, the band doesn't play on the studio version of this song (Apart from Linda playing the mini moog and providing harmony vocals, as well as Chris Whitten on drums), so Wix's not here.
    As far as I know Wix didn't play on Flowers In The Dirt, even if the WikiPedia page lists him as one of the album contributors, so his involvement with Paul started right after completing the album, while preparing for the 1989/1990 Paul McCartney World Tour

    • @triplejazzmusicisall1883
      @triplejazzmusicisall1883 Месяц назад

      Sincere question: Wix was on the Put it There doco. I think that strange he wouldn't be on the album as wasn't he also on the video for Once Upon a long Ago. Thanks for sticking up for the song Put It There. It's delightful. I never thought though I would see someone write they don't like Blackbird. Not you of course. How much opinions can var astounds me - still I always try to accept the old adage that everyone is entitled to their own. Looking forward to your comments on This One. Cheers

      @@triplejazzmusicisall1883 Wix wasn't on the Once Upon A Long Ago video, there's only Linda playing keyboards there.
      The Put It There documentary was largely filmed after the work on the Flowers In The Dirt album was finished, in preparation for the World Tour.
      Probably McCartney made the decision to include a second keyboardist alongside Linda just at that moment, so that's how Wix was hired.
      But as for the actual album, virtually all keyboards parts were by Paul and Linda (And occasionally the producers like Trevorn Horn on his tracks).
      So Paul Wickens entered the picture right after FITD was finished

      @@Uetti Thank you Uetti. You are probably one in 5000 that know this information. Wix was quite lucky then because he got to be included in all the media promo kits and photos etc. My memory is fading as I always thought that there were two keyboardists on that video. Maybe the other was somone else. I look at it now. I;m always interestde in the opinions of others, so I can become a pest - just let me know is that happens. I'd like to ask you whether you think the Once Upon a Long Ago would be better or not as good with the included animation. I appreciate your time sincerely.

      @@ricardo_miguel13 Blackbird has a forced melody, which makes it stand out as a low point in McCartney's catalog. Put It There's melody is not quite so forced, but the song is definitely a lull in an otherwise exciting album program. Figure of Eight, on the other hand is melodically fun, similar in feel to James Taylor's Your Smiling Face. In fact, it sounds like Elvis Costello covering Taylor's song. It's the perfect song to begin a concert.

    Ringo is great... the perfect drummer for The Beatles.
    CPO says at the end of the video: "Come check out the band. We're going to be doing 2 hours of McCartney hits."
    You guys should throw in one non-McCartney song - just to surprise everybody (one John or George or Ringo song... just out of the blue, in the middle of the show).
