Hey, Glock. Definitely looking forward to the Ark series, but I have a word of warning: the difficulty setting you have it on means that all the dinos you will ever tame will suck, and suck bad. The biggest problem you will run into will be that, since they will all be horrifically low levels, their stamina will be extremely low. That will cause a major headache in the long run when you're trying to ride anything. You will have to stop, and stop, and stop so often to refill their stamina. Just a little advice to save you from heartache. If you desire to change this, increase the setting all the way to 1 and when you get into the game, hit TAB to open the command prompt and type "Admin cheat destroywilddinos", which will clear all the low level dinos and allow higher ones to populate the map. You shouldn't find anything lower than level 5, iirc.

I have a feeling he will get very easily bored, too, on lower difficulty. No offense, but your suggestion sounds like a prodigious waste of time, considering several mechanics. I've wanted this for so long! and I love seeing that he has SOME experience with the game. It's fun to watch people anyway, but it's so nice that they have a basic understanding so that the first 3 episodes or so are not slowly paced. Definitely gonna enjoy this series to the fullest
Not sure if he played it a little, or if he read/watched a basics guide (I kinda think guide). But I can tell he's pretty green. And yeah, that kinda allowed him to skip through a good chunk of time just trying to figure out the mechanics and buttons. He struck a good balance.
This is likely not common knowledge among ARK video makers, but the preserver can hold pretty much anything and has more slots then the other storage boxes. It is also shorter than the large storage box, so if you make the shortest avatar you can, the common walls are tall enough, otherwise you need to stack two before you put on the flat ceiling. As a side note, later you will want to use the tall walls, which are around three, or four standard walls tall so the bigger Dinos can fit inside a much larger base of operations before the larger gates are used as fences to keep the meat eaters not yet tamed, or killed out and away from your tames.

a little trick i use, when i fast travel i have a complete copy of my base inv in a storage box that i take out when i get there. usually i dont fast travel cause i have a griffin and they go fast, but its good to have multiple bases with decent supplies and crafting areas so you dont get stranded with broken armour or tools
The editing is amazing!! I really like how you went from placing foundation to gathering from a bush to hitting a tree to placing down a storage box all in succession is just great.
As I said before, anything near the walls can be damaged, or destroyed since nothing is solid in this game. That is why I recommend placing everything towards the center of the base structure. Wood and stone walls and such can take a bit of damage and normally won't get knocked down unless the game sends a super high level, and huge Dino to damage the base, but even the mid level dinos can destroy just about anything near, or against the walls no matter what they are made of. You can easily test this by finding a level 30, or higher Dino and attack it while near your base and then run into the structure and watch what happens when the Dino attacks.
I'm planning on starting an Ark series myself so it's nice to see how the pros are doing it first. You make me laugh a lot. "That's how we do it in north Jersey"
And ark is such a time drain. So grindy. And especially taming. To keep it fun crank the timing down. Taming high level stuff over the course of 1 hour is enough.... You dont need the HOURS long taming of vanilla ark. Arks fun is best maximized with faster taming and and faster breeding, hatching, and maturing. Otherwise you just waste your life away spending so many hours doing menial tasks and taming.
I agree. I never play with official rates. Just putting taming to 2.5 makes it still take a reasonable amount of time and not a nightmare. Especially on single player where time stops when you log off. I adjust breeding and maturation, too. I don't have 3 days (or however long it takes) to raise a giga. It's meant to be done with a tribe with official rates.
Ya, I play SP a lot and I always adjust the taming rates, breeding and maturation rates, gather rates, and exp rates. I don't want it to take 20 hours to get to metal tier! Lol. Hopefully these original rates won't burn him out for another series.
Well his difficulty setting is dinos at level 1-30, so that will speed up taming time. And make the whole game a lot easier (except for gigas who are mad lads at lvl 1) But yeah, anywhere from 2-5 x gather, and cranking up tame time and breeding times is necessary for sanity. I still remember spending 10 hours taming a lvl 90 (max level then) Plessie before scuba, or refrigeration, or kibble... At least default gather and taming is 2x what it was in early access.
It's gonna be a bit of a grind me who didn't build a base till I fully went to wood then built my starter tamed a trike with no trap and then eventually tamed a t rex after unlocking the tranq darts and rifle all within a week 😆 I'm obsessed with ark btw
also for solo play you might wanna make it so all the engrams unlock for each lvl as you go, the engram system is designed to make people work together in tribes and to balance pvp
