Several thousand hours here, Glock. Late to the party, but hopefully, I can help.
1. Tranq Arrows are based on an on-hit tranq and then a duration tranq. Count 5 seconds in between each shot to maximize your efforts.
2. Certain animals (like the Trike) have resistances to certain attacks at certain places. In this example, the Trike takes less torpor and damage from the head (so aim for its sides!)
3. Upgrade the difficulty, then do a killallwilds to reset the spawns. The max level for dinospawns on the Island is 120, but you're not going to find many of those even with the slider.
4. The Trike didn't destroy the wood, it destroyed the thatch. Animals hit in a small AoE, hitting the floor of the structure, too. The trap was a good idea and would have worked flawlessly if the floor was wood (or even better if it was stone)!
5. Movement speed 175 allows you to outrun the fastest animals on the Island. It's a good idea for when you need to run away and live (but watch out for cliffs).
6. Trikes (Parasaurs, and other small herbivores) are good at getting berries and can collect wood and thatch. Male "Moose" found up north gather the best thatch, while Beavers are the best for wood (and reduce the weight of the items in their inventory!), while Ankylosaurus is best for metal and flint.
7. You're levelling up faster because of the Explorer Note, it grants a hard EXP bonus for a duration, so make the most out of the EXP boost!

The difficulty is how high the max level of dinos are, at high difficulties with level 150s you can still get level 10s or so.
What you should do Is increase the difficulty, and then do a wild dino wipe so that all the dinos on the map will respawn based on the new difficulty level so they're not all 1-30s
A dino wipe by itself without increasing the difficulty level won't do much

@@bradmx245gaming5 Not ENTIRELY true, the max level checkbox does force max level, but since hes on the island the max level will only be 120, not the standard 150 that everyone else sets their servers to, except for those people that SOMEHOW enjoy having levels 1000+....

Loving this series, totally my favorite game ever!
Here are a few tips that I have learned from my almost thousand hours of single player,
If you would like to just figure out things on your own I get that too.
- Try and always use stone for traps, only a handful of dinos on the Island can break it.
- Being that you are in a somewhat dangerous area, I would recommend building a spike wall around your base area, make a dino door as well but having a safe perimeter really helps.
- If you walk over explorer notes while on a dino, the dino gets the buff too!
- Alpha DInos(like the raptor you killed) will also give an experience buff to you and your dino.
- In order to get higher level dinos set the difficulty to 1 and check the "Maximum difficulty" setting box(this will get you dinos up to 150) then do a wild dino wipe.
- Craft a spyglass, (crystal can be hard to find at first, as it is usually at higher elevations) but the spyglass allows you to see a dino levels from afar, very useful.
- I would turn on the setting to see damage text. This will allow you to see how hard dinos are hitting, and you can decide whether you should run or not.
- Unlock Bolas, they are a life saver against smaller predators like raptors and terrorbirds.
- Put stim berries in your 0 slot, if you get hit by something that applies torpor, you can quickly eat several and stop yourself from becoming unconscious.
- In the red woods there are cat-like dinos that hang out on the side of trees and will grab you off of your mount while you are riding it, super scary.
- When you get to point of taming something big that takes a little time, you can "track" it via a side menu in your inventory.
- Rafts can act as a mobile base and/or taming pen!

If your trying to tame a Dino that as a “shield” like the trikes head you wanna aim for places that aren’t shielded like the trikes body
Same with T-rex - they have a mitigation on their heads as well

The Rex don’t necessarily have a mitigation like the trike, but they don’t have a headshot modifier because they are a large sized dino. Figured I’d pass on the info. Stay safe survivors🙂

Glock the dino levels are based on the difficulty adjustment. Once that's turned up then run a wild dino wipe to get new dinos spawning in.
It's more than that though, the Island map just has different spawn patterns that make it harder to find high levels. A map like Valguero is different in that respect.
@@davidsen1805 that is true but turning up the difficulty will still spawn higher dinos than level 3 or 4 that glock was fighting. He would have a harder time finding max levels but should still find higher levels.
On my solo server I use a mod called equalize Dino levels and helps a lot plus on the new series also have Max dinos at level 420 but I'm just having fun i got 4k hours in ark still suck at pvp tho
'Single Player' server setting needs to be disabled as well or it will override the difficulty setting (which determines dino levels). It also sets experience gain at 2x as well as a bunch of other things. So it would be uncheck that box under server settings, change difficulty (5 allows 'max' level), load in, input destroywilddinos, and get eaten by new high level dinos.

trikes are like the only dinos that give you a negative headshot multiplier. on trikes, aim for the body. pretty much everything else, you want headshots.

You're leveling up quicker because you opened an explorer note at a low level.
Opening an explorer note gives a xp gain buff right, Is there different exp buff given for opening different notes?

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the river rocks (little rock clusters along the water) usually give a decent amount of metal which is really useful early on before you get a decent flyer.
I knew that cause my brother sed mine the rocks near the beach I didn’t know crap so I was sure and he told me when we werer done😅

@@kiryu4708 For starting it's a godsend though. Once you get a Diplodocus or a Bronco though, that's when your berry farming goes insane. Same with the ankylo and deodicurus later on. Once he gets those, he'll be having stone and metal with no idea what to do with it.
@@Dracona63 Even later on a well leveled Trike or a Therizino is my go-to over a Bronto for the simple fact that Brontos are a pain to maneuver, which usually loses the time you save when actually harvesting. Plus, you don't really get more berries for the same melee stat. Trikes are simply one of the best berry farmers out there.

Suggested setting:
- change difficulty to 1 and do a wild dino wipe for up to lvl 120 dino spawn, you can alway decrease it when fighting the bosses
- lower food and water drain by half. Ut just get obnoxious later in the game, It is easy to sustain yourself
- lower night time or completely disable it for easier recording, you only need night time on the aberration dlc
- put taming speed to 5 or lower. It will let you speed through the early game. Any higher will make the kibble mechanic irrelevant (special taming food for harder dino)
- harvest amount to 3 (increase in mid to late game if needed)
- xp multiplier stay at 1 (the xp and harvest amount multiplier has already been buff to double in an update)
- allow flyer speed leveling (turn flying dino into jet, faster traveling)
In advance tab
- harvest health to 2 (resources yield twice the amount, 1 tress = 2 tress worth of wood)
- supply crate and fishing loot quality to 2
- allow cave building pve
- allow flyer carry pve
- (optional) show floating damage text, can break immersion so you decide
Final word
The game has a lot of features lock behind hours of grinding. I would prioritise acquiring and playing around with these feature above playing fair and grinding. I don't want you to record for 4 hours just to build a stone base so feel free increase the gather rate or any of the setting as you play depending on how grindy the game feel at the stage you are in. The taming speed shouldn't be too high if you want to explore the kibble mechanic which I would suggest you do. You'll need to breed dino to get their eggs, make farms to get specific ingredients, and cooking the kibble. I find it fun but it can be tedious, so if it gets too time consuming to record, then just increase the tame speed and tame everything with mejoberry and prime meat.

Agreed. Never make foundations out of thatch unless it's used as a placeholder for upgrading later. Thatch breaks super easy, everything damages it. Stone is best early on, very few creatures can damage stone structures.

Hey Glock! Here's a little tip for ya! If you are ever planing on taming more Triceratops, you shouldn't shoot it's head with tranq arrows, shoot it's legs or chest. You shouldn't shoot it's head with and tranq arrows because they take reduced tranq effectiveness and won't get knocked out as fast. :D
Edit: I now realize that some people already commented about this and I'm sorry xd. I guess this comment just increases his chance to see this tip.
remember this for later when taming animals like trikes or that have amour do not aim for the head or wherever the armor is they take reduced damage or torpidity that way.
Heads up, the turtles work good as food storage, items in their inventory degrade more slowly.

Command is admincheat_killwilddinos. Increasing difficulty before this and then running this command forces more Max level ones. Also set the advanced setting to “force max level.” Another thing that helps is typing gamma 3 to make scenes brighter. Also do r.bloomquality 0 so you don’t get blinded from reflections. Hope this helps.

Its the explorer note. The note boosts your xp for the next 500 seconds after you read it

Trikes are good for harvesting berries from bushes. Also, if you grab an explorer note while on a dino, both you and the dino will get the XP boost...
[I apologize if this was already mentioned] If you scroll down in the general settings, there is a check box for 'Max Difficulty'. This setting sets the max dino levels to 150 for any map [difficulty 5]. You might need to do a dino wipe after checking that box.
Be careful in the red woods. There are thylacoleos that jump down from the trees and will rip you off your Dino.
All the Neebs references are funny. Especially singing the "Cheers" theme song while on Thick

To get higher level dino's to spawn, you need to do BOTH difficulty increase and wild dino wipe... Increase difficulty, then wipe wild dinos, then the higher ones will spawn. If you JUST increase difficulty, the low levels will still exist in the world, once you wipe them and turn up difficulty, the higher dinos will spawn in.

The big white fluffy guy (not even going to attempt to spell its name haha) is a badass tame to get, basically the vegan version of the Rex. It also has a special ability to inflict extra damage to insects, more damage equals more resources gathered from carcasses.
Also, big no no with the wood mate! Stone is your best bet for building pretty much everything, especially in SP. Most dinos can break wood and definitely thatch, and when they're in a trap like to made there, once they lose the agro towards you they'll attack the structure. When you go for a Rex, you can definitely use the same kind of trap but make the walls/door ways *three* high so it doesn't walk out of it and make it all out of stone! If I recall correctly, only dino that would be a major threat with a stone trap would be a Giga since it can damage stone and of course the Anki since it's basically a walking pickaxe and the Dilo which is a walking Hatchet (top priority dinos for base builders).
The cuts in the video are perfect. Most survival series I can't sit through one video because it's like an hour long.

3 things: 1) do not move any setings, they are perfect 2) Farm, try to get some carnivorous "plant X", seeds find in the swamp 3) tame a pteranodon any lvl, and with the pteranodon you find the Argentavis. Tks for the content you are great!! :D

When you pick up an explorer's note, it gives you a buff in the bottom right for 600 seconds at 4x experience gain. so making narcotic while having that buff gives you xp at an insane rate. if planned right you can maximize on it and save up all the stuff to make narcotic till you get one then set it all to make while that buff is running, and you can go off and kill dinos and harvest to get some pretty insane levels in a very short amount of time. and that are lot of notes close to the beach if you learn where they are you can get 5 i think before you ever leave the beach area.
Vids oldish but since he talks about it here, for anyone interested in starting... at lowest difficulty, dino levels are 1-30. Difficulty multiplies those levels, and at max difficulty it multiplies by 5 leaving you with a level range of 5-150, with dino levels always being a multiple of 5. If you play singleplayer or on a non dedicated server there is "single player" option which vastly speeds up many of the grindier aspects like xp gain, engram points, and taming as well as increasing your tamed dinos power scaling, and these rates are further multiplied by similar server settings, so increasing server xp and having single player on will let you level very fast. While difficulty is mostly to taste, it mostly makes surviving on foot harder, i dont believe the end game bosses scale on the difficulty setting therefore if you want to do endgame you probably want the difficulty maxed.
Ed. Some maps have lower max difficulty than 5 but theres a force max difficulty option that makes them 5
For higher levels you need to both raise difficulty and wipe wild.

Idk if it was said but the increased exp gain was mainly from that first explorer note. That one gives you 4x the amount of exp compared to the normal 2x the regular notes give. You can tell by the color. Purple arrows is 4x and yellow arrows is 2x
Glad to see ya playing ARK! You're doing really well considering how the game can screw you over pretty hilariously.
A few things you might find useful: If you hold down H (default) it will give you extended hud information. Backspace (default) will hide your hud completely. K (default) is your orbit cam, which allows you to see yourself and scroll out really far using the mouse wheel. You can adjust the gamma via console command, just type gamma and whatever number you want to adjust to. I like to keep my game at gamma 3, which is one full point brighter then default. To reset the gamma just type gamma into the console. If you want to freeze time type playersonly into the console, this will completely freeze everything including the sun; this command is useful for taking screenshots. Finally, the most important hot key is + on the numpad, also known as the defecate key; it makes you and any dino you're riding defecate if they're ready to pass some stool.

if you're gonna be in the redwoods build a tree platform. and easy access to the cave in the redwoods that has a great cave to grind for loot and xp and chitin and an artifact.
In my opinion playing with the difficulty slider on the highest is the way to play ARK. After that if you wipe wild dinos the high levels will spawn right away, otherwise they'll just replace the ones that die
My standard is 20, any lower and it's no fun!
You got an XP buff from the explorer note, that’s why you got so many levels. To get a bunch of levels early, make a bunch of narcotics with that XP buff going. Once you can make a toilet you get a short XP buff from pooping in it too, and that stacks with your buff from the explorer note. It will also give you fertilizer, which is great since dung beetles are harder to get on the island.
Also, any Dino that has armored heads like a trike will take reduced torpor in the head. So hit a trike in the side or the butt.
For more metal, hit the river rocks. They drop more metal than the regular beach rocks and they’ll get you by until you can access better metal nodes.
Also, to jump down from a high place with your dino and avoid fall damage, dismount right before you hit the ground. Your dino doesn’t take fall damage Un-mounted and because you were mounted until a few feet from the ground, you don’t take fall damage either.
To keep pegomastax or ichthyornis from taking important stuff, keep trash in the last slot of your inventory- like a couple rocks or a berry seed. They’ll steal the last thing in your inventory. That way they won’t take a whole stack of kibble or your industrial forge...not that I’m speaking from experience or anything.

Once you tame a Dino, their taming effectiveness and their level determines how much additional levels they gain. So higher levels upon taming make the tamed Dino even higher

FYI, you can take any dino off any cliff and survive IF you get off your tame right before it lands on the ground. Obviously, if it's water there no worry unless it's shallow. Bumping difficulty level to 1 should provide you with plenty of challenges. I dunno on PC but on PS4 the max difficulty level will only go to 1 which allows for plenty of max level 150 dinos. Tinker with taming speed if you feel is still slow. Nothing worse than taming a high-level dino and it takes hours.
Oh, one more thing.. Get your movement speed up to at least 136. You wanna be able to outrun any dino on the map in case it's needed.

Hey glock, long time ark player here, upgrade your difficulty slider to get higher level dinos. The higher the difficulty, the higher the max and min dino levels. After you increase the difficulty, do a dino wipe so that way the higher level dinos will immediately start to spawn back in. Happy hunting!
Dude this is fricking great! Be careful with having the dinos at a higher level though because they will MESS you up.
Stay out of the swamp and put lots of points into movement speed/stamina so you can outrun dinosaurs on foot

I got ARK yesterday and was really lost, but I did get up to Tranq arrows and tamed the dino that gets metal.
Today I start a fresh playthrough and do it right!
I built a base up on that cliff behind yours near the redwoods which was a great spot.

You've probably resolved this, but for future folks that run into this:
"Official Settings" (and most RUclipsrs I've seen) have a max dino level of 150. Max dino levels are * 30, so if you set your difficulty to 5, you'll get dino levels: 5,10,15 etc on up to 150. (Like other folks said, you'll need to do a "destroywilddinos" from the console after you've changed the difficulty.)
*On singleplayer, you have to add to your GameUserSettings in shootergame/config:
DifficultyOffset=1.0
OverrideOfficialDifficulty=5.0

Also the amount of harvest being adjusted will mess with xp.
When u try and tame a trike it has a damage reduction on its head so it takes more to knock out just like a turtles shell
I’m enjoying watching a new player experiencing ark for the ‘first’ time. You gotta get the loot off of alpha dinos you kill. Herbivores won’t harvest Dino bodies. Tamed Omnivores and/or Carnivores will harvest bodies and loot up until half of your tamed dinos weight threshold...otherwise a bag will appear containing the rest of the loot. Blueprints are free engrams and often better stats than their engram counterparts. Crafting skill improves blue print stats.

I remember one of my first Ark experiences. Got a copy of the game for a buddy while it was on sale. One of the first things he asks me is where to get food. I threw him a bunch of narco berries and said here ya go dude and waited a few seconds. Buddy dropped and we had a good laugh.
I love ark so much honestly, yeah it can definitely be a clunky fuckin mess at times but mostly it's just so fun and the rough edges are just part of the charm and fun most of the time
When you named the trike Thick i thought "might be coincidence". When you sang, it was confirmed and 3 things happened: 1- i actually chuckled out loud, 2- i subbed and 3- i vowed to watch every episode of this playthrough. Love the little digs!

Tip for taming a trike don't hit them in the head hit them in the body, trike will reduce 50% torpor if you hit them in the head 🤦♂️
