While the world hears the upbeat version and thinks, "Oh, it's awesome to be crazy!" this version captures the reality. You're never more alone than when you figure out that not only are you crazy, but the rest of the world is crazy as well, they're just in denial.
What place? Cause he's not in any "place". The metaphor of the song is pretty much; you are not alone, we all feel lonely and we are all the same, no matter how much control people perceive to have, every single one go to sleep thinking on unanswerable questions.
@@hotwaxonmyuddersohyeahmoo5701 I agree....and disagree. Are we better or worse now than at that the time of the world wars? WW2 deaths (deaths not casualties) were close to 100 million, when there were only 2.3 billion people on the planet. That's 3% of total humans dead. We are nowhere close to those numbers at times long before, or any time since. Is this the worst time in history? I think many Americans feel like it is. The civil war would teach you a different lesson. Very different. Disease, death, and violence permeated everywhere. Today is a different war. But casualties, death, disease are significantly lower. Is this the worst time in history? It's extreme upheaval but history is rife with "the worst". We aren't even close. And I say that with sadness, because I feel how poorly things are going. Just my 2 cents.
I come back to this time to time because it has such a meaningful part of my life. I used to listen to this in the darkest moments of my life. In a way it helped me to accept the emotions I was having and not hold them back. It's been 5 years since I almost took my life. This song helps me realise that space I was in and where I am now. I will never forget.
how do you interpret this song because the top comment interprets it as everyone is crazy but just in denial. but I think I interpret it as a person reflecting on a dark period which he was going mad. the "I think you're crazy just like me" is him acknowledging that he is still prone to go to become crazy again, if he doesn't keep himself in check, the same logic as a recovering addict still identifying as an addict, its a way of being real with yourself. the "you really think you're in control" line refers to people who are control freaks or people who think they can control their life or the life of others. he's saying they're actually just crazy but its ok cause everyone can become crazy, and everyone can recover from being crazy as well.
@@asddfasdqwe7389 I interpret it as - looking past the stigma of insanity & recognizing that intelligence leads there. As well as not putting heroes on a pedestal. There's also an element of "be careful what you wish for", and so by extension - being okay with what you already have, in heindsight of what you wished for. To sum both points up it would be that life isn't some linear progression where we start at the bottom and aim for the top. But is much messier and more chaotic than that - and thats okay. Dawned on me as I just listened how this relates to the people fighting in Ukraine, specifically the people who volunteered to go over there.
@@FlynLatif in the nicest way possible, every part of your comment looks unrelated to every other part, like several people wrote what they thought the song was about and came up with different things. Also, the things you listed either don't make sense or could make sense if you just explained what you meant a little better. How do you expect someone to know what you meant when saying the song is about people fighting in Ukraine as volunteers. Or that intelligence leads to insanity. You didn't even highlight any lyric to show why it means what you think it means. Basically your entire comment is useless to the reader because it is so vague and feels like you were jotting in notepad, not writing something meant to be read and understood
@@asddfasdqwe7389 hahah steady on, it's my interpretation of an extrapolation of the meaning behind the words, which is subjective. Intelligence leading to being crazy, as well as being careful what you wished for (after wishing for intelligence): "Yeah, I was out of touch But it wasn't because I didn't know enough I just knew too much Does that make me crazy?" The thoughts of any soldier who chose to take up arms for a righteous cause: "My heroes had the heart to lose their lives out on the limb And all I remember is thinkin' I wanna be like them Ever since I was little Ever since I was little, it looked like fun And it's no coincidence I've come And I can die when I'm done But maybe I'm crazy" The entire song is basically saying he got success and knowledge and realized he's still crazy like the heroes he aspired to be still are. Hence my last point about life being a chaotic attempt at progress.

My heroes had the heart to lose their lives out on the limb
And all I remember is thinking I want to be like them
Ever since I was little
Ever since I was little it looked like fun
And it's no coincidence I've come
And I can die when I'm done
But maybe I'm crazy
Maybe you're crazy
Maybe we're crazy
