Hey Pete: I do title insurance work. If your neighbor's surveyor planted stakes on your property it's possible you may have a legitimate problem. Get your title insurance policy and survey. If you don't have them contact the lawyer who represented you when you purchased. He/she should have them.
I live in North Carolina, about an hour away from where you were visiting our mountains. You should have done the swinging bridge. You called it a suspension bridge. I've been to that bridge & across it hundreds of times. Its safe enough. It does swing with the wind, which is thrilling. Lol... The mountains of NC are a good cure for just about anything.
