I LOVE this slide player!! Is there any chance that you could do an update #rundown of Hunter Hayes? And that you could interview #LarkinPoe? They are two roots rock’n roll sisters who began as violin players and had a phase of bluegrass; Megan Lovell is a lapsteel player inspired A TON by Jerry Douglas, and Rebecca Lovell plays a variety of instruments (lead vocals, acoustic/electric guitar, banjo, mandolin, piano, etc). I’ve been fans of them for years, and they’re definitely worth an interview! My daughter wishes to go on tour with them one day!
@@jonbongjovi1869 He’s like he always is - enthusiastic, loose, knowledgable and comfortable. (While your middle name is “bong” and you’re typing in all caps....)
Genuinely one of the nicest guys in the world. He deserves every good thing possible in the world to happen to him. I'm not ashamed to say I've modeled a lot of my playing off of things he's done.
@@redkingeye Any of his Simo stuff is good. He's gotta lot of good live performances with Don Kelly if you're into that sort of thing. His blues/rock work is where I really love him. He has the old Cream Clapton Era tone down to a tee. Dudes a real monster.
Love this guys ,Thanks . Bolinger is the absolute man . Nobody does these like him . Its like he's your band mate ,not some interviewer dude that works on a guitar magazine . You rule John .
J. D. seems like such an incredibly fun guy to hang out with and he's incredible, like a guitarist chameleon. He picks up the Gibson acoustic and he nails the Lightnin' Hopkins sound. He's got the Earl Hooker thing down, the Junior Kimbrough vibe, he can do anything! Thanks for another awesomely fun video PG, John and gang!
I discovered him because of a Carter Vintage Guitars demo. He played a 1958 Gibson ES 175 and I was blown away (3 minutes of pure heaven). I love his playing and he seems a very nice guy. I also learned a lot from some other guitar videos he made. He rocks!
"WHATEVER I SMOKED THAT DAY" hilarious! I go back and read my comments on various U tubes wondering..... wtf did I smoke that day? What a fab funny Guy!
When he plays it's as if it's a time machine back to another era. Other people can play the same stuff but he has done the research more than almost anyone apparently and when he plays something it nails the vibe so perfectly. Inspiring for sure. I haven't had the chance to see him live yet but the full band (trio) jams on instagram live over the last year or so absolutely blew me away. Psychedelic soul man!
Definitely, I'm going to put a set of your pickups in my SG. I live in Portugal so, not that far away from you. Do you have any clue which wind/magnets JD chose for his? Thanks. Cheers
JD has always seemed like one of the coolest guys ever. He would be President of that club. He is an amazing guitar player and really has a feel for blues guitar playing and emulates the styles of his heroes while retaining his own personal style. Hard to do! Loved every second of this rig rundown and it was obvious everyone was having fun. Great job as always John and Premier Guitar. These continue to be the best videos on RUclips.
I saw JD at Songbirds in Chattanooga right before the pandemic hit. Awesome show. Very early Zeppelin & Mountain vibes with his trio. He was just playing into his old deluxe reverb and it is easily the LOUDEST show I've ever been to.
Love these ultra detailed long rundowns. Can't help but notice blues and country guys never get any negative comments on their gear or behavior, while other musicians get trashed on for using or saying the same things. Really interesting crowd mentality going on there. Oh well, all the best
THANK YOU JD, WHTA A PLEASANT GUY and PLAYER. THANK YOU JOHN YOU DO THESE INTERVIEWS WITH SO MUCH KINDNESS, RESPECT AND HUMOR.... GREETINGS FROM GERMANY, JOE
This was the most chill, enjoyable rundown ever!! such a friendly , relaxed vibe throughout, didn't even notice the time... would of watched longer... well done everyone!!!
I met JD and his Band at a festival in the UK a few years back - his band approached mine backstage because our dressing room warmup song at the time was bizarrely 'Keep on Movin' by Five, which they thought was funny. When I recognised him, I thrust my hand out to shake his which almost made him drop his 335... never would've forgiven myself... but He and his band were extraordinarily kind and gracious and we had a good time hanging out in the sun for a bit eating crappy festival food.
I love how JD opens up and shares with John because he respects him as a musician. How he’s excited to show him and us his tools and how he gets his sounds.
I love these kind of interviews. Apart from hearing all the amazing things JD is doing it's amazing to hear where his phenomenal playing comes from and the things that are inspiring him now.
Catfish Collins, Junior Kimbrough, Reggie Young, Jody Williams, yank rachell - lots of research to do. Thank you!
JD's the man. He can literally outboogie anyone; my secret dream would be seeing him sharing the stage with the JSBX, that would be some serious barrelhousing!
I remember walking into Roberts Western World (Broadway St., Nashville) one Friday evening to hear the Don Kelley Band and JD had just started his tenure with them....wow, what a treat his playing was for me that night!
I wish this was a 2hr episode ! Fantastic. I loved the stories of Nashville. I hope there’s more stories told between JD and John ! Loved this episode. Made my Saturday night !
My fav rig rundown to date. Such a cool cat and ridiculous player. Unbelievable feel and seamlessly flows from one style to the next with amazing authenticity.
JD is soooo damn good. Hes the type of player i would love to sound like but have no idea where to start..he can play so many different styles and just squeezes every inch out of each note.
I have been watching Rig Rundowns since the beginning. I actually was a part of the guitar community in the beginning of facebook. I left it a long time ago because it was just toxic and i quit playing. Out of nowhere, i got the bug again. I'm older now and work a lot, but ive been playing again and came back to these videos and this one is incredible to me. One of the last ones i watched was of JD when he was the small Hippie. Killer guitar player, but this one meant way more. We are all gettin fuckin old. I loved every bit of this and i love how honest he is about this vintage gear that everyone masturbates to.
His tones are always great, his Pelham blue gibson 355 into the fender deluxe reverb with the reverb turned up was a great tone and period of his guitar playing! My favourite JD tone and period though has gotta be the 335 and 1960 les paul into the cranked marshall with the vox wah inbetween, total 60s Clapton, Beck, Page and Allman vibes!
About those Ampeg Gemini I amps (I'm an Ampeg geek/nerd/freak, and Gibson amps too, but I digress). For those who didn't know: studio guitarists in NYC had a "key club", so they didn't have to haul their amps around to studios. Gemini I amps were outfitted with a car key on/off switch, and they put those Gemini I amps in all the studios. Key club members were each given a key, which enabled them to use the Gemini I amps in whichever studio they were working at. Bass players thought it was a good idea, bass amps being even heavier, so they too soon had a key club. For them it was the Ampeg flip-top "porto-flex" B-15 amps, which they too had put in every studio, outfitted with a car key on/off switch. I used to have a Gemini I and II, which I got to fix myself, but sold them to my local amp tech instead about 10 years ago. He loves it so much it's in his studio, one of his best sounding amps he says, and it has a Jensen "Vibranto" needing a re-cone, the holy grail of vintage Jensen speakers, the best speakers they ever made. After watching this, RJ has made me determined to get another Gemini I, this time working, and I've got plenty of speakers that might work, although I'm thinking a Celestion Gold might work well in that amp, or a Weber 12F150, or (possibly best sounding?) vintage Jensen C12N organ pull speaker...?
JD has always been great, but he's become one of his heroes, if that makes sense. He's achieved a sound that is well beyond technique or knowledge. Great run down.
