Step into the grandeur of French history with this extraordinary château in the enchanting village of Saint-Chartier, nestled in the Berry region of Centre-Val de Loire. With 34 rooms, 9 bedrooms, and 7 bathrooms spread across an impressive 1,450m², this majestic property is a celebration of architectural splendor and historical significance.
Dating back over 1,500 years, this château has transformed from a walled medieval monastery to a stronghold with a moat and drawbridge, and later, an elegant 19th-century masterpiece. Painstakingly restored since 2010, it retains its rich heritage while offering modern luxury. Notable owners include a cousin of Richard the Lionheart and a chamberlain of Napoleon.
    Inside, discover:
Grand reception rooms with monumental fireplaces
Opulent bedroom suites with marble bathrooms
Parquet flooring and a charming chapel
A recreation room, secret passages, and a watchtower
    The 15th-century outbuilding features:
Towers, a dungeon, and a stunning bedroom suite once occupied by Jacques Mesrine
Renovated spaces with enormous attic potential
The estate includes a separate barn adorned with cloister pillars and a 12th-century freestanding tower christened "The English Tower" by George Sand.
Set amidst 2 hectares of lush parkland, this property offers the serenity of village life with a boulangerie and restaurant nearby. For city amenities, La Châtre is just 10 minutes away, and Châteauroux is within a 35-minute drive, with direct trains to Paris in under 2 hours.
This is more than a property; it’s a timeless work of art that invites you to live history, luxury, and exclusivity.

Yes, I remember this one too! I love it but many antiques and yet modern bathrooms and love the secret bedroom. As long as one can get back out alright. I think it is hard to heat as not sure about heating ability, the taxes etc, and what needs to be restored yet in order to live as efficient as possible, in this Chateau? (One can learn all this later plus most importantly the price_! If I owned it, I would invite Sephanie and other Chatelaines as Simon and Vivienne and Sarah and Steve, and several more! Also, perhaps Mummy and Percy and Gerald if in the area at all, could come, as well as little Galahad. Could certainly join them and maybe Amaury and Nattie and Marie perhaps? Would be so nice to have friends come and to have people to come to visit us or stay and help out, if any would be interested in helping as meaning to work of volunteer and have a place to stay for a time, or maybe longer, If the other Chatelaines came, they could stay a day and night or a few, and we would have a nice dinner party or maybe a couple?! It would be such fun!
Would want some people joining us to help, as would need to first have help, and would need help to keep it going properly. (Well, enough dreaming for now) lol Not really able to do any of this but it would be so exciting and know it would be a special new kind of life. Your whole heart must be in it and you must be young enough to work hard too!

@@jelsner5077 right after that I saw it listed for the first time.
Actually after she would visit a Château they would immediately list it with someone, I guess banking on the free advertising the channel would be generating for them in general and then the listing.

Perhaps the seller took this opportunity, but they are by no means in need and, among other things, also own a second château.

I can imagine that it will be sold with a loss, even at the current price of 3,75 mio. Respect to the current owner who has taken extremely well care of this beautiful property! The moving company will have a lot of work. Also how will it look once it's empty... ?

    • @FrenchPropertyByLeggett
      @FrenchPropertyByLeggett  Месяц назад +1

Perhaps some furniture could be negotiated to remain on-site. As for the property being empty upon sale, this is the case for many real estate transactions. At least it gives you the freedom to furnish the place exactly as you wish.
And in France, there’s certainly no shortage of antique shops and flea markets! Some might even decide to go for modern and contemporary furniture-it works beautifully in historic settings.

It is partially true. Not the money thing because once renovated there are not big expenses and this I can certainly proof. But, it is true that castle's become like a dependent child, specially if you have the misfortune of being an historical architecture's passionate as it is my case. You love the place and you pamper it. I want to sell because my 4 kids live in 4 different countries of South East Asia and getting old, I want to spend more time, not bothering to close , but near enough. Thanks and dont never hesitate to ask. Ivo

Buildings like that have the tendency to hold you captive. You'll soon find out that you are not its owner, but it's temporary unpaid stewart. In fact, all or most of your money and time will be spent on a building like this. Unique chance indeed 😉.

It’s often not the case. I’ve filmed hundreds of castles for Leggett and, therefore, met just as many owners. There are as many stories as there are castles. In this case, the owner also has another castle in the Gers and properties scattered elsewhere. He stayed here for 15 years, lovingly restoring this little gem, which he took over in a very dilapidated state. He showed me the photos, and the transformation he’s achieved is remarkable.
Yes, it takes a bit of madness to buy a castle, but these are extraordinary places too. In French, we say, “Qui se ressemble s’assemble” (birds of a feather flock together), and perhaps it’s the same with such historically rich and charming places. More often than not, castle owners are just as passionate and fascinating as the castles themselves. Cyril - photographer

@FrenchPropertyByLeggett Yes, Yes, Yes, you've got something to sell. My comment still stands.

No one is saying that a château is inexpensive to maintain-more square meters and land naturally mean higher costs. That said, I imagine owning a Ferrari with the budget of a Yaris would likely “hold you captive.” Trying to make champagne on a beer budget just doesn’t work.
The solution is to buy a property that fits your budget. As for this château, I would hope that anyone in a position to purchase it also has the means to live there. It’s pretty straightforward and has nothing to do with whether it’s for sale or not.
