Final Assembly series part 9
A few minor issues to work out & some possible causes for concern. 1939 Caterpillar D4 / RD4 4G9986 "Lil Lefty" has never been so much fun and fulfilling. The machine has the Cat D4400 Diesel engine. I hope you enjoy the shop talk, banter and commentary.
We are operators pretending to be mechanics!
Thanks for watching!

Used gopro and corel editing software in the creation of this video.
It's nice to see 3 generations together. Nice work.
Glad you figured out the injector was stuck. And everything you guys did will make it better. Now get it outside and pull the guts out of it all day.
We definitely will! I can't wait to get Lefty outside. 😊
I love this project and am thankful that you brought us along on this journey
Awesome outcome you guys and so awesome your Grandpa was there to see it all happen. Both those motors sound so nice, testament to your diligence fellas.
Thank you! It was definitely a good day for us all. 😊
What a TEAM you guys are awesome
"This is our finest hour".
The engine sounds happy! Now to come up with a plan to create enough work to load the engine for break-in.
How i wish i could be with my Dad, am sure you never take it for granted for every day you have as Father/Son//bless you 2......3 now that i see GrandPa...
Another great video!
Really enjoy your trips to "the D4 parts store"
Festus always has something to day lol
Nice to see the belt pulley shaft turning.
It was honestly a big relief that the belt pulley worked, 😁
That is the best sounding pony motor I ever heard.
Awesome happy to hear it run awesome
Another Home Run! Your editing is still phenomenal!😮🎉
Thank you Tom! 😊👍
It was great that Grandpa was there to see it run! I'm sure he got a real kick out of seeing it run again.
We were very happy he was there. It was very important that he got to see it run. 😊
@@lifeafterourloss You and your dad have done a wonderful job bringing this D4 back to life! You got yourself a new subscriber!
@rudycarlson8245 Thank you Rudy. Welcome to the LAOL team. 👍
Always great videos
Thanks again!
Very happy for your success on 4G!
That slow mo injector test sounds like the engine is breathing!!!!.....Very interesting test!!!!
Surprisingly that's how they show to do it in the Caterpillar diesel engine book. Ideally there should be more of a cone mist to the spray. You can see on number four that it is more of a stream. 👍
Hey there guys, good to Grandpa out there, nice work on sorting out those jectors LOL. Nearly there for the road test.
Thanks for sharing.
Peter from Aus✌
Thanks Peter. This is definitely an exciting point in the project. 😊 👍
So cool to see it run!!!! Great job guys!
Getting it together now soon be in the paddock
Diesels need a load to run proper, running no load can make em " wet stack ". Once you get the injectors sorted, she needs to be run hard to get everything seated and purring lika a kitten. 🐈
I think you're right. I'm going to look for a shop that can tune the injectors. After we get it together we're going to give it some work to do! 👍
Need some of that PPF film on the fender to keep the pull start from rubbing the paint instead of the painters tape.
Your cleaning is on par with grandpa's! (that was a good one)
Hi My Dear Friend Very Very Great Job Sir ❤❤❤❤❤
Excellent 👍
good value video. 😀👌👍
I thought I saw on another channel, where you could attach a measuring cup device to the injectors and see if they are producing the correct volume over a set amount of time.
I see you come by your fashion sense honestly... (Hey grandpa!)
Should have done injector test before changing anything on the injectors. That way you know what you're working with.
I’m thinking if the barrel plunger is out by one cog it just affects fuel delivery rate. Not the actual timing?
Great show. Love your project.
I checked the alignment of the cogs on the barrel plunger. No issues there. When we set the wheel barrels some of them had quite a bit of wear. It's possible that they're not maintaining the correct adjustment. I'll start with the injectors and go from there. 👍
Im happy for you two. Don't you guys have a pop tester? Or am I remembering it wrong?
I need to get one. We're going to see if there's a local shop that will take a look. I think there's some pop testers that are around $100 available online.
How hard would it be for a guy to build a test stand for the injectors? Would it even be practical?
I've actually found some on eBay for about $100. I'm going to look around and see if I can find a shop to take a closer look.
@@lifeafterourloss I agree, on the pop tester.
Area Diesel is a little far from you, but they do like working with RUclips creators.😊
@carlthor91 We are going to start with some local shops but I will keep that in the back of my mind. I don't think the channel is big enough to consider myself a real "RUclipsr." 😉👍
@@lifeafterourloss They will give your numbers a good boost.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
(leave a comment) NICE VID! ha ha ha
I'm glad someone got it! 😂
