Got a pair of Brunt Ryngs about a year ago and really like them!
11:47 nice have you guys try red wings 🪽 life time fixing
My DR 😅@@jdougn2255
might tell the kid who said . they went thru all the batterys... they do have grinders with wires on them. plug into wall... no battery needed. hahahhaha
"we've done a bunch of stuff wrong...we've seen the comments." Love your attitude brother. In the end it's your build and your sharing it with the world..I appreciate what you've done and I'm excited to see the results of your labor. Thanks for the awesome content. 👍🤘
Thats what i was trying to say & you said it better .
Agreed 💯
Agreed!
Agreed!!! ❤
Exactly. It's called fab rats for a reason. I'd take this content over million dollar sema builds anyday
You need Fab Rats logo mud flaps!
I would get some. I collect them. LOL
I am a cat person, and I love seeing your calm and relaxed cat wandering around and checking things out. My 3 cats do the same thing in my shop. Whenever I bring something new into my shop, it will eventually be inspected and thoroughly smelled. Sometimes when I have a problem, I will sit in my chair to "think" about how I am going to solve the issue, and one of my cats will jump into my lap and put in a petting request. It is almost always a welcome event for me. Even if I do not necessarily WANT the attention that I am getting at the time, I will always fulfill the petting request. It always ends well for both of us.
So everything gets a cat scan? 😸
@@davedennis6042 That is a fact!
I find myself naturally resting my hand on my girl "Jet Black" she reminds me of "Zena the Warrior Princess 😂😮😅🎉
You build the truck the way you want it !! It's your truck and your channel ! You and the team are doing a great job !!!!
Looking SWEET. Fab Rats logo mud flaps for the duals!
YOU KNOW IT BROTHER
Definitely!!!!!
And a Dixie horn!
You need to cut some rectangles into the side rails of the new bed, so that you can add stake-bed railing for hauling loose stuff like logs. And then you can tilt that bed high enough to "dump". It's a combination flatbed hauler and stakebed dump truck!
Seems like the idea of cutting a bad section out to get the length you want would have been ideal.
I thought about that one, but it would (possibly) reduce the strength of the side rails welding back together depending on the aluminum alloy. "My SWAG" not a structural engineer or a SME and no experience with welding AL.
@@DB-yj3qc poppycock
Well the issue I think is if they would have done that the front axle of whatever hauled would always set on the welded joint. (That’s a lot of fatigue over time) So where they welded it back together is virtually out of the way of really any working load other than the winch, which I’m sure will be plated and structured to high heavens. Also where they welded it back together also looks like a factory build/design where as the other way would have this random weld joint everyone would ask about lol. Just my 2 cents. I am also a certified RUclips engineer 👷 😂
Y’all make this look easy, which I’m sure it’s not. I 65 and too old and worn out to even consider this type of work. But it is sure fun to watch!! Y’all make me feel 25 years younger!!
I’ve been pondering this question in my mind recently. Who is my favorite creator of awesome content. It came to me last night during the fourth time I needed to use the restroom. The laughter you provide makes everything come out so fine. Sorry for the crude humor. 🙂
You win first prize!!!
Absolute favorite channel
Underground miner here. 12 months is the absolute max for boots. TGoods have been the longest lasting so far. It’s hard to take a chance on different boots when the current ones work.
Have you tried made in America danners?
The rain Forrest ones
Would you care to elaborate? I put TGoods into a search engine and came up with very generic results like "good boots".
I found it, Thorogood Boots.
@@everready19373thorogood boots
The danner rain forest are amazing
absolutely need Fab Rats logo mud flaps for the duals! Might be my favorite fab to date..you guys rock
Paul, something to consider: You may need to add a bed lockdown system. We had a truck with a hoist that I hauled cars on. When I partially raised the bed to load, the hydraulic cylinder would extend when the weight was on the end of the bed. Then once loaded, as I would go down the road the front of the bed would bounce. I mounted chain tighteners on each side to hold it in place. If your power unit has "power down" function and a tight valve, it may not be an issue. I really enjoy your work ethic and willingness to show your thought process and sometimes mistakes. I laugh with you! Makes your videos "real". Keep up the good work!
Glad you're still leaving options open to make the bed slide back still. I'm pretty confident you'll be able to figure out how to make it a true roll back at some point!
I don't care what anyone says, how long it took, you guys did/do some great work. I love it! 😊
Seconded! The haters are gonna hate no matter. Some people just aren't happy until they find something to squawk about. You guys do and are doing great! Keep doing what you want to build and when. Thanks for bringing all of us along for the ride.
They do it right because they do it twice!
You’re doing it all right !! Don’t listen what those haters say !!
Michelle is quite the sprinter she really kicked in the afterburners against those guys! Always good to see Grandma Lolly! Sean is a great asset to the team and so is Hunter!
Love the Ratback! Keeps getting better and better all the time. Good job! God bless you all.
DOOLEY wheels in the back would be cool but dual axles in the back would be iconic! Keep up the good work guys Paul Michelle love what you guys are doing always searching for the next video!❤
I want to see a half track build personally. That would be fun in the sand dunes
Not that my opinion matters, but you guys made a great call abandoning the original plan. If the bed was 15” higher it would have been a very scary center of gravity with a load on it.
Hey awesome videos. Hey a little tip to manipulating aluminum. Blacken it with acetylene then heat it with a neutral flame then quench it with water. That allows you to bend shape aluminum with out it breaking. The reheat let cool on its own the aluminum will anneal it self. I learned l
This tip from an old welder it does work
Anyone know why the radio silence between the fab rats and MORR crews? I can't remember the last time they were together in a video and they go to st George and no visit with Matt? I've noticed the lack of communication for a while but can't remember a reason. Maybe I'm just a tin hat dude but they always seemed really close.
You're not alone. I've noticed the same thing.
@@MurryLlewellynI think something with the off-road games has something to do with it
Good enough for who it's for as they say. Ratback is looking fantastic, keep working it.
Just to let you know, I will watch your channel no matter the outcome of any of your builds. I like the way the entire crew and family are involved. Keep it up Paul, some have already said “ it’s your projects and your channel “ do what makes you happy.
Found your channel through Matt a few years ago. Now its the only one I really watch consistently
Don't let the comments get to you, Paul. Many of us have done a project or two ourselves which is part of the reason we enjoy watching. We are thinking right along with you. It's part of the fun for us and I'm sure no one is meaning to put you down. It makes us feel included somehow.
Sometimes I want to comment and I stop to remind myself that this isn't your first rodeo. And, your stuff always turns out cool. Keep being you.
Well put....we'll put
Thanks for changing things up and keeping it interesting, Fab Rats.
What he said
Michelle is fast i didn't think she would be able to run as fast as those guys 😂 good job Michelle 💪🏽
You do know you have to let the boss win. U have kids. U know what I’m talking bout.
She probably had to run from Paul in their early years
See them run gave me a hint of jealousy :( .. I lost the ability to run around 15 years ago .. I didn't even know until I went to the Doctor with severe back pain, as they toasted me they found my disability ..
I guess that shows me how often I WOULD have run ... if I could have :)
I stopped watching this channel because of Michelle. She’s annoying and inserts herself into episodes unnecessarily. Drama queen! Kinda sucks cuz Paul is awesome!
This roll back has been my favorite project since matts heavy wrecker
Being able to haul stuff on it would be a massive bonus! Better do a slalom run, check for sway. Don't want the bed to twist off.
Fab Rats is awesome, family oriented love it ..
Turning out great as usual. Great to see the added time to fix all the bed support on the underside. Duel wheels on the rear will really dial the Rat Back into a sweet looking ride.
It's my favorite RUclips channel. Must be the farmboy in me. Get it done, figure it out, and re-imagine what to do next. And do it in a team / friendly environment. You all should be proud of the work you are doing.
Thank you miller for helping out our friends! Shout out to Air Gas in Santa Fe! Miller sails through the rough stuff!!
That tow truck is TIGHT. Love it. Great job.
Can’t help but laugh when you guys say paints. To anyone in UK we would think Y fronts, boxers , etc.😂 🩲
@@kdenyer1 when we hear "paints" we think Pigmented liquid applied over a surface that dries as a solid film.
Pants we think fabric used to protect our legs from getting ripped up, and our balls warm. Boxers and Y fronts are underwear, items you wear under your pants so you can wear you Pants several days before changing them is a must.
i really enjoy watching you both work so well together and how you repurpose parts. i like to spend the money on what is needed and save it where is isnt. couldnt care less if people say you did something wrong....if it suits your needs, it is perfect.
Because you read the comments I have to say this is an amazing looking tow truck and I hope it works 10x's better then you thought it would.
Great channel making excellent videos! Ignore the haters. That's your truck. Build what you want.
Going to be a little light in the front end when loaded . You should stretch the wheelbase a little . Otherwise it looks amazing !
Red Wing SuperSole $260
+1 re-sole $100 = $360
5 years of 45 hrs a week on concrete
+5 years of yard work, hunting and pretty much everything else
Still comfortable and in great condition
I'll bet that taking a day off from filming felt like a mini vacation. Don't ever need to apologize for having a private day together! 😊
"my boots wouldn't start" ..........yup. Priceless!
YAAYYYYYY!!!!!! Duals are the only thing that rig was missing! 🍻
Paul it’s impossible to do something wrong to your own build for your use!! Arm chair quarterbacks need to get off the keyboard and go build what they think is something better!! Thanks for taking us along!!!!
Although I'm sure that you probably know this, it's important to remember. Not all, but most of the people that complain about things not being "perfect", have either not done any major projects themselves or they work in a complete fab shop with all the tools and $ that they could want. The reason that I personally love your channel is because although you have a lot more tools than I do, you seem to live by the same modo that I do. Just because it's not supposed to work, doesn't mean that it wont! I believe that with the ramps, that bed will work great! My only concern that I see is that the rear axel might be too far forward with a load. But there would be other problems especially with ground clearance off road if you try to move it back. Only time will tell. Keep up the great work!!
Lawn mower... I thought you still needed a snow blower 😂🤣😂 Looking GREAT 🙂
Good morning everyone!! Rollback looks awesome. Fits the truck like it should. Job well done by you all 😎🤙🏼
"That's close enough is the theme of this build". That's the theme for ALL of your builds! 😂 Love it!
Michelle, your new hairdo / highlights look really nice!
Looks Great… 100% functional for what you wanted. Can’t wait to see it loading up something
18:16 nice job with the stitch in. I liked that.
Paul: She looks Phenomenal !!!!👍👏 You and Shawn are operating of the same Wave Length! Thanks for a great video!
It's so cool the rat back. I love it. I can't wait to see a burnout in it
Build some removable ramp or foldable end. Personally that's what I'd do. Love that rig!!! Also great to see Michelle again. It's always good to see the boss
I was thinking the same. They could easily have enough room to slide sideways under the dovetail so they can be long for cars. If they fold, they’ll have to be short.
I like hunters idea of cutting the section that was bad out then weld it together there.
Thanks FabRats for making old and wrinkled cool
It looks cool. Love all your videos. The best channel on here.
Please explain why you wouldn’t just cut the 4 feet out of the middle and weld it back together and getting rid of that damage at the same time
Nothing better than the first day wearing new shoes!
That truck is starting to look awesome. Good job!
I hope you make the cabin really nice too. Like: un-shattered glass, heater/aircon, all functioning buttons, sound deadening. The ceiling is often forgotten - think acoustics. Better for us and you 😊
Looking sick Paul and guys can't wait to see it done and ripping
Bell bottoms are back in style! Forty years have passed already, wow! They make you look a foot taller Michelle! Rollback/tip up looking better every episode.
It’s been more like fifty years since they were in.
those jeans are BOOT CUT
Rollback/Tilt-bed is looking better with each video lot work been done and you can see the difference and your vision coming into view. 👏🏼👍🏼👏🏼
Loved the Dukes of Hazzard reference!!!!!
That turned out looking nice, Hotrod farm truck!
Michelle you are looking so beautiful...love your style!
We all know it's gonna work just fine👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
That is a beautiful rig, I had to pick myself up when Hunter asked if you were going to paint it. lol. I agree it will look great polished.
Keep up doing what you are doing. Best channel on RUclips
Looking good. Michelle, love the hair. Truck is coming along. Take care. God bless
Your drain pipe goes directly to the stream. Build a wash pad with a basic separator that can capture most of the schmutz before it drains the stream.
I would also be concerned about chemicals getting in there as well
Maybe you've environmentalists should go out there and build something for them
@@MarcusAurileus Just helping the dude out. Im sure Paul would prefer not to get a visit from UDEQ. You understand all this ends up on the water system of the southwest, right?
@@MarcusAurileussounds like you’ve been drinking some nasty water for some time 😂
Glad you didn't give up on it. Make sure the ramps lock into the bed. One oopsie convinced me.
If it were me and the bed required that much reworking to make it functional, I think I would have made one of those hook and drop beds. The bed drops off the back of the truck and lies flat on the ground. Drive/winch whatever on, strap it down and pull the bed and load back up onto the back of the truck.
I'm afraid that angle you have, even with ramps, will be steep to pull cars up onto. 🤷♂️
Love the content, as long as it works for you, that's all that matters.
Paul, Michelle, Shawn and Hunter bravo for content with style and humor ✌🏻🫶🏻💛💛💛💛💛
I appreciate how you folks resurrect equipment.
It looks just about right! The duals will be the crowning touch. Well, that and polishing the bed!
That thing is bad A
Good Sunday morning everyone! Paul appreciate the video 🛠️🔨🪛🇺🇸 Through everything in this world we live through Keep Jesus Christ in your heart and life first . Hes the answer through it all ✝️🙏😀
You didn't do anything wrong. You had an idea and worked out a logical solution to make the most of it, with what you had. It looks neat😊😊
Love your channel!! ❤
There's nothing wrong with a tilt bed for what y'all are doing with it!! I've used them for years!
More Michelle, she brightens up the shop
Here's an idea...
you need 2 x 4 ton hydraulic rams... one for each side of the rear (under) the flatbed...
you put a hinge (or 2 or 3) across the back end of the bed... and attach that 4 foot section back there.
At full extension of the rams, it folds that 4 foot section up on the bed, flat...
As you contract the rams, it unfolds that 4 foot section... now, your bed is 4 feet longer, and as you raise it (dump style) you can use that 4 foot section to add a "ramp" like effect on the back...
When you get the vehicle loaded, you extend the rams again, and that 4 foot section raises up behind the vehicle on the bed...
I bought my first set of Brunt boots a month ago, they are great. I'll be ordering another set soon. This truck is going to be an awesome addition to your fleet.
Keep up the good work ! We can all learn something new by watching and listening to others ! ! Keep on fabricating !
All I could think of when you lifted the deck, was to design it like a Tufflift bed , think it would work perfectly for this application!
I've said it before but I'll say again please don't let Sean go anywhere. I love his attitude and the way he works reminds me of working with my cousin when I was younger. He seems like a gentleman that would give a stranger the shirt off his back in winter if he needed it
Years back they made a dually kit for a non dually rear end. I put the kit on a 89 chev extenda cab 4x4. Worked great. Looked awesome
OK, glad to hear you're putting duals on it. I've been cringing this whole build at the idea of a single wheel car hauler
Brunt boots are awesome! I took advantage of the discount that Brunt had on your channel and really liked them.
My husband and I cut, split, and haul a lot of firewood.
My husband asked how I liked the Brunt boots, and he also got a pair for his job at a fertilizer and chemical plant.
Michelle, you will really like them.
I don't blame you for not filming a trip to the city. I would not want my personal life advertised as much as you put on youtube. Do love watching what you all do.
With that Cummins, I would daily drive the Ratback! I love it!
Not only will the duals look good the stability when loaded, or possibly overloaded, will offer better handling. Your build inspires me to get started on the 1952 flathead F6 my dad bought new and is in excellent original running condition. If Brunt boots can get me running like Hunter I'm in for a couple pair.
Ok we love the idea of the duals on the back of the Rat back. You need them on a roll back to handle the weight. Looking good on the bed I can't wait for the final install.
That tow truck is going to be absolutely awesome. One of a kind. Thank you for sharing! 👌 😊
Looking awesome! Can't wait to see it hauling. If the "Free" truck is the longest......load it first then go to your heaviest! Thank you for sharing
You guys.
Created a lot more work than needed.... All you would have had to do was cut the frame behind the cab on both vehicles. ...weld them together and bam your all finished with your dually wheels attached
Michelle, your looking lovely today.
It looks really good like that. When asked about painting it I really thought the answer was "Hunter you are polishing that"
My only other thought was to put a 4 foot fiberglass antennae in the very front center of the bed to avoid the one time pulling ahead too far may cause problems.
Looking good the only thing that I would worry about is how far forward the rear axle is . Like the aluminum welded setup I'm sure for stuff like this it beats having to tig it all together
Good work on that bed.
Looking good!
that thing is gonna rock out.
just got done turning an old 5th wheel camper into a car hauler put a jeep Grand Cherokee on it yesterday and hauled it behind my 1500 Chevy. I need a bigger truck. I have an 88 just like the free truck, would like to put that on a Cummins frame some day.
