- Giving the Aristides H/06 and its EMG-89XR pickups a whirl through the one and only Omega Obsidian.
The H/06 is incredible axe, it's very lightweight, highly ergonomical, allows to play in any position - standing up or sitting down - thanks to its 2 output jacks, a manageable fret fan of 25.5-26" and very resonant thanks to the Arium and in this case the "raw" construction. The Hantug tremolo is super smooth, great range, no wobbly arm and very comfortable for the right hand. This guitar truly lives to the "it does NOT get in your way" statement.
The two EMG-89XR splittable pups are THICK alnico based (similar to the 85 in humbucker mode and to the SA in single coil mode) and therefore warmer/darker in nature. However they can still do low tunings without a problem; while the tuning here is C standard, I might end up using it in C# or maybe D.
The single coils sounds are nice and snappy, less noisy than a regular passive single coil pickup. I chose to have two XR's because I love the their sound when closest to the neck for both pickups. For some reason the neck split coil sound (at least to me) is more noticeable with cleans, which btw are way better than I expected. Each knob is a push pull that controls the split in each pickup, in the middle position this enables the combinations of HH, SS, HS or SH which is pretty cool.

what an absolutely insanely good guitar sound my god.
I was considering an 89XR for a Strat I’m reviving but wow I’m going with 2 of them like you have setup. Fantastic demo and sound man.
Thanks a lot! Absolutely, I can only imagine how it'll crush on a Strat tho \m/
Very nice! Is that a volume and a passive tone knob? Or two volume knobs?
2 Volume knobs, each one's push/pull functionality is to coil split each pickup.
Wow this sounds incredible, already a big fan of the 89x, really like how it sounds in the arium
Thanks, yes indeed it sounds sick... I suspect it'll sound even sicker with the regular 89. I'll put one in soon to give it a shot
this videos got me sold on the H/0
Hell yeah brother! And this vid doesn’t do it justice… truly exceptional axe!
EMG single coil sounds amazing
Yes, it’s a pretty decent sound with very little volume drop
This is the 100 %. It won't get any better than that. Definitly going to get a 89x. Have to try it
It's a great pickup no doubt. But I'm thinking I prefer the non-X version. The X is a bit "softer/rounder", I kinda prefer the mid-focused punch of the regular series. It's subtle tho.
@@SergioChongLoo I've heard many people like the normal emg's with 18 or 24 volt mod more than the x series. Would love to hear and comparison of the 89 with 24 volt and the 89x.
@@thb219 Personally I don't even like/need the 18v, I have the ES-18 which let's you instantly A/B 9v vs. 18v and, with all the gain from boosts/amps, 9v sounds cleaner to me.
@@SergioChongLoo I can imagine. Tried the difference between 9, 18 and 27 Volt with a selfmade built in switch with different models of the x series (60ax, sx, hax). Couldn't even hear a difference.
That's it... I'm getting one 😏🎸🎶
Aristides or Omega? 😜
@@SergioChongLoo geez... Both!! Lol na, I was talking about the Aristides. I've been on the hunt for a purple strandberg Boden 8 string and I just found one and bought it but I've been looking at Aristides guitars for a few weeks. I'm planning on getting a light blue 7 string sometime soon. This video locked it in. 😏🎸 Keep up the great videos ✌️
@@mikebush3834 thanks man, yes by all means get one, you’ll be so stoked!
wow
I think this might be my favorite tone out of your demos yet. I finally took notice in Aristides guitars after sleeping on them forever. Picked up an 020 that will show up next week. Hoping to fall in love, which will create problems given the long wait for new orders. Might be circling back to see if you have any 6 string variants that you might consider parting ways with.
BTW is the tuning stability on these so great even after heavy playing that the Evertune on your T/O is kind of pointless, or do you fnd that it still helps enough to be worthy to consider it on an Aristides build?
Hey thanks a lot man, glad you like this one!! The tuning stability is great overall but not 100% obviously, so double locking or Evertune still help. With Evertune you get the additional feature of putting it in a "zone" where the pitch won't change AT ALL (no bending/no vibrato) which is great for certain recordings. More importantly, it may be with Arium only but, with Evertune I don't notice the typical "tone suck" most people do on regular guitars, the resonance is just as huge. I may consider selling an 070 but not a 6-string for now.
@@SergioChongLoo Thanks for going a step further about talking about the lack of Evertune tone suck with pairing with the crazy resonant Arium! I have an Evertune on a Kiesel Aries A6E. Absolutely love the convenience. But the tone is not doing it for me. The bigger problem is I seem to always gravitate to a PRS, set neck, mahogany body and neck, 24.5-25" scale for standard tuning, and this Aries is bolt on, Ash body, maple neck and board, 25.5" scale, and the tone impacting Evertune. Picked it up used to see how I felt about Kiesel and Evertune knowing that the tone wood combo would probably not be right for me. Very happy with both, and was about to order a Kiesel Crescent with an Evertune. But I am excited to see if I might like Aristides incrementally more.
So the general expectation with the Evertune is, compared to a fixed bridge, is it thins the tone out some losing some low end, body, and resonance and either adds some higher end (or just perceived high end due to the missing low end). That would generally describe the wrong direction for my tonal preferences. Coupling that with the comments I have seen about the Aristides being a little brighter than wood would otherwise sound like going further in the wrong direction. But if I understand you correctly, the impact of the Evertune with Arium is virtually unnoticeable? So it would just come down to liking the natural Aristides tone or not with or without Evertune?
What gauges were you using? Did you eventually tune up to D standard?
The strings are 12-56. I constantly keep changing between C and C# Standard. Haven't tried this guitar yet on D.
So both of your pickups are 89X-R? So when ordering it do they have an opinion for neck and bridge?
Not sure what you mean by "have an opinion" but my idea was to have both of the R versions so I could have the "north" single coils: 1) a more "spanky" sound on the bridge and 2) a warmer one for the neck. Totally a matter of personal taste.
@@SergioChongLoo Because they have several Pickups that are specifically made for the bridge or the neck. Like the 66TW is a Neck pickup or the 57TW is bridge pickup. So the 89X-R can be both neck and bridge and still have different tone quality to it?
@@l5e2n9 Ah, the TW pickups are a no-option on Aristides unfortunately because those pups are way too thick for the routes.
Hello! So they are both the same pickup at the neck and at the bridge, 89XR?
Hi Sergio, do you notice any difference sonically between aristides and other wood material guitars like strandbergs? Cheers.
Yes, they're in general a bit more resonant, have a tad more sustain and overall slightly brighter tone (in a good way). Comparable guitars for instance would be the high end Custom Shop ESP's. My experience with Strandbergs hasn't been very good, I've found them to be a bit dull tone wise and tremolos very stiff.
@@SergioChongLoo Thanks, Sergio. I'm contemplating on getting an aristides. There's a local shop where I live that has a h/0 raw in stock.
@@aliassaid6398 go check it out ASAP since I presume it won’t be there very long, it’s a amazing instrument/model, it came out way better than I expected.
Could you tell me which color of Gold that is of EMG. Brushed or Standard Gold? Thank you! Awesome video!
Brushed. Cheers!
@@SergioChongLoo Thanks so much for the quick response! Happy New Year
What do you think about the sustain of this model?
it has sustain and resonance for days just like any other Aristides model, but only a fraction of the weight which is really impressive
I heard someone who owns this amp say that the effects loop is super noisy. Is this true?
Maybe you're referring to my bud's Anthony Best situation, which is really unfortunate. Luckily I haven't had those problems. However if you abuse the signal going into the FX return (for example with an EQ) it can get noisy pretty quickly.
Do you think the Aristedes is worth the money?
I wouldn’t have 13 Aristides if I didn’t think they’re worth the money :)
@@SergioChongLoo holy shit lol. Man... Now I really want one...
I was even going to put an 89 in the bridge and a sustainiac in the neck...
@@richardrdenisii they’re incredible instruments, great quality, craftsmanship and consistency with unrivaled customer service. Reach out to them and tell them I sent you ;)
@@richardrdenisii oh yes I loved the results of the 89 in this video. You’re welcome to check my other vids, all the other tiddies/tests have different pickups so you might find something else you like too.
