    A typical Peranakan dish which is rich in flavours - fruity, spicy and creamy all at the same time. The many ingredients explain why Udang Masak Lemak Nenas is so delicious.
    When being introduced to Peranakan dishes, you may have come across these delicious curry prawns with pineapples or in the Malay language, it is called “Udang Masak Lemak Nenas” (pineapple prawn curry). The tangy pineapple flavour and the fragrance of the spices make this an appealing dish and is delicious even when simply taken with plain white rice.
    Blend all the required ingredients together and once that is done, cooking the curry is really simple. You may have noticed the long list of ingredients but do not be intimidated. It will be well worth the effort. That explains why this dish is so flavourful. A crucial part of the preparation is to ensure that the blended ingredients are cooked until fragrant.
    To complete the dish, add some strips of kaffir lime leaves to enhance its fragrance. In Germany, I found the kaffir lime leaves at the the frozen section of the Asian grocer. Skip the leaves if you are unable to get them. The curry prawns will taste just as tantalizing.

    I just had ikan masak lemak in Malacca for a short weekend trip in a very unassuming Peranakan kopitiam and the best thing is the tauke-nio offered to refill the gravy.. slurp..I never tasted any masak lemak so good before and in search of the recipe. Glad that you have this in video as I'm so going to try to cook it own my own.

    For my version..lot of onion and slice it..heat the pan and saute the onion..and on the coconut milk..let it boil for a while..add "serbuk kunyit" and add in pine apple and prawn..season salt and sugar..although it simple but the taste is awesome..the nyonya version also cool..thumbs up

    Another winner in my eyes! I wish I had discovered this kind of food years ago but I am totally into it now! This looks amazing and even though Belchan smells and most Americans are not used to it it certainly does add to the flavor layers!

    • @smutpow
      @smutpow 11 лет назад +1

      Nyonya Cooking (Malaysian Recipes) No worries about the belacan; By itself, belacan smells a bit funky but when you toast it (my grandma toast it over the naked flames) the smell is totally different. I actually like the toasty smell even though I kind of hate the raw balacan myself.
      If you want to really freak your guests, go make Cincalok.

      Yes, the coconut milk needs to thicken during the cooking process and if its added at the end of the cooking, the dish will not be that fragrant.

      Udang galah!! OMG! Of course you can. It will fit this dish :) And everything remains the same. Depending on how much you are cooking, you may wanna increase the measurements of you are cooking lots of it.
