you can hear the dispatcher assigning rescue 2 to the box due to numerous calls, and then you can hear the officer hitting the glass @ 1:44 letting the backstep know they're going to work. awesome
This is one of my favorites look at the fire eaters the bravest the baddest the bold that's FDNY doing they thing don't hate support my brothers FDNY baby
Best fire dept in America & the world. Others are up there too. Chicago is perfection. FDNY sizes the job up in seconds. You saw how they saw the guy in the window before they stopped the apparatus.
Responded many time out of St Johns Easts across Eastern Parkway.....both on the back step in 234 and 123 and as a detailed MPO to 234......from down the road on St Johns Pl. Can make out Mike Rogers voice as well as Marvin Robinson's. Hell, I might have been at this fire ! LOL Sure miss those days
A strip mall is a tax payer, however this building....a store on the first floor with apartments above is a "true" taxpayer. The concept is that you had a business on the first floor and rented the apartmens above to "pay the taxes".
A squad is an upgraded engine company. They carry more tools and equipment than a standard engine. Back in the day, Squad helped Rescue 2 with their duties. Brooklyn was and is so large and busy they needed additional resources to protect the city.
+Bryce Wiegandt yeah we do! although last week i was watching this crazy video from china and those firemen were doing some ballsy stuff too...i love it all man! cheers bud.
it is actually . some guys have the encapsulated gear and some dont. It all became issued about 6 months later due to a fire capt. and 2 members dying in a stairway in soho
OHH the trolls are out. This is a 1994 video 20 years ago and published 6 years ago...Watch a piece of history and go to the next video.Get out of your parents basement and get some fresh air.WAIT I just fed the Trolls.
I know that goes against the list of fire fighter priorities SOP's or SOG's. But I have seen many jobs were someone at a window has created such panic that all fire fighting tasks were abandoned, ultimately creating a far more serious fire and risk to everyone involved. Just a thought.
its weird sseing guys wearin turnout gear and the old 3/4 coats and pull up boots. I guess this was when turnout gear was first issued. Very nice video A lot has changed since '94.
They are located on St John West.... 123 is on St Johns East. The first due truck was 113. I do remember seeing them there, i'm guessing they may have been requested an additional ladder
ok... before you get any more bad information. An "alarm" is typically a group of apparatus, for instance, 3 engines, 2 ladders, 1 Rescue and a Battalion Chief, could be a 1st alarm. Every alarm after that may follow with a similar apparatus amount with added pieces that may be needed, like a cascade unit (fill air bottles), deputy chief, communications unit, etc. etc. The term transmitting a 2nd alarm was back when the chief would pull the box at the street corner if he need more help.
I completely understand your concern Jackcourt, however, I think they recognized that they were in no eminent danger and that there may have been other higher priority tasks being addressed. They had someone at the window which they did rescued. They were opening up. The thought may have been to control the fire quickly and protect everyone, rather than commit resources to a non serious rescue and maybe let the fire spread creating more danger.
I love the time 1994 was a good time in our lives. Wish we could go back. But I wonder, why did it take so long for the initial attack on this fire? Seem like they were fumbling around trying to get water? I know you can't bad mouth FDNY but didn't it seem like it took forever to get water on the hot stuff or was there an attack going on in the rear of the building?
There were a few guys wearing the old bunker gear(long coats and pull ups) look closely and you'll see a few guys with it. This video was filmed around the time the job started issuing full turnout gear.
"The term transmitting a 2nd alarm was back when the chief would pull the box at the street corner if he need more help. " This is absolutely dead wrong. Before radios in FDNY the chief would open the box with his key and use the telegraph key inside to tap out 2-2, followed by the box #. THAT would get him the 2nd alarm. Pulling the box a 2nd time would be ignored by the dispatchers. Been there, done that.
man your so lucky... now we dont get to do ride alongs.. well only if the mayor does decide going from 5 ff to 4ff you might get a chance but for now no one can get a ride along with the fdny.
Yes 1998 288 & 270 ,61, 18 the only one you kinda got wrong was 41 they technically were a squad but the people forced them to call themselves enhanced engine 41. engine 41 were disbanded in 1989 but in 1990 were reformed as a squad but like I said the people forced them to call them a engine
The name of the outfit is the MASK SERVICE UNIT (MSU). It supplies and maintains the air-paks (portable breathing units). Not the MASKED service unit, weenies.
Yes...at first. I was used to hip boots and didn't like the switch to the new short rubber boots. But I liked the bunker pants and leather boots....so much more protection and mobility
@vickiormindyb they eft the people in tower one because after the south tower collapsed they realized how unstable the towers were and decided to evacuate in an attempt to prevent any further loss of firefighters if the south tower were to collapse which it did
I was told that they are putting electric Q's on new apparatus. I understand why, because of costs. But they are so lame! I'd rather not have one, then use these bogus electric.
Just asking, where you get this list from??? Please say you have a source that proves this to be the case and are not just making them up as you go along! If there is please share the source with us! I would be interested in the dangers and occupational hazards of other jobs. FYI,,,,may want to think twice before calling firefighters drama queens. Karma has a way of biting people in the ass, you may just need the people you are calling names someday!!
Seagraves, Macks, Detroit diesels, the one and only Squad! This is a great videos of 90s FDNY
Love this video clip! I retired in 2000 so this is very familiar firefighting era for me! Thanks for sharing!
Happy you liked it, what section of the city did you work?
you can hear the dispatcher assigning rescue 2 to the box due to numerous calls, and then you can hear the officer hitting the glass @ 1:44 letting the backstep know they're going to work. awesome
Negative, those days are over. They don't let anyone buff insdie the rigs anymore. The best you can do is ride along with a Batt.
This is one of my favorites look at the fire eaters the bravest the baddest the bold that's FDNY doing they thing don't hate support my brothers FDNY baby
Sounds like Warren Fuchs dispatching that day...the one and only...awesome video!

Watching this, I kept holding my breath...didn't want to breathe in that smoke!
Good use of the air horn to clear traffic.

Men of true honour, giving their lives to safe others.
nice truck engine rescue and battalion scenes with roof teams venting
Wow, they actually let you ride along to such a serious fire? What a nice bunch of guys.
Holy Shit this Chauffer drives like a boss, that was impressive !
Thanks for posting, very nice. I wonder how many on the video are no longer with us since 9/11. God Bless
Fantastic driving skills, but it must be a nightmare driving a firetruck in NY.
It is LOL
A good air horn!!
Especially in Manhattan or under an el.
Wow that's some serious horn work
nice video!!!!!! i like the older rigs in a video for a change!!
Sounded like box 1030. Great video. I agree with jd - it's good to see some of the old Mack's getting some face time.
Im retired now but never had that window expierence. Good for you!!:)
the good old days, when people respected a truck responding too a call
Responded many time out of St Johns Easts across Eastern Parkway.....both on the back step in 234 and 123 and as a detailed MPO to 234......from down the road on St Johns Pl.

I'm from Boston and we have a great FD. But FDNY is the greatest FD in the world

give that driver a raise

Nice catch. Take a look at my old stuff ;)
Wow - intense job! This reminds me a bit of Backdraft - similar era!
+Bryce Wiegandt Only real ;)
+Bryce Wiegandt i came right to the comments to see if anyone else caught that...sweet catch

Yeah, it took 3 guys burning to death in Manhattan this year for them to finally get bunker gear
FDNY are the BEST anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's hard to believe how different yet similar the fire scene then ('94) and now look.
They are located on St John West.... 123 is on St Johns East. The first due truck was 113. I do remember seeing them there, i'm guessing they may have been requested an additional ladder
awesome video!
thanx for uploading!!
How about a link?? Like I said I would like to check out other statistics and possible dangers and occupational hazards.
must of been nice responding with no traffic/ congestion
Thats what I will do. !! Thanks.

thanks trillions times to all of the firefighters on earth, even if trillions is surely not enough

3rd alarm is when 3 companys or stations respond to a fire, or turnout as they say in england
hi msu repo units are usually called on the 2nd alarm and greater within most code 1 2 and 3 runs along with sattelite trucks and safety batt chiefs
That is correct... L123,E234 and Batt 38 all in same house on St Johns East in Crown Heights

Wonder what would happen if FDNY had to drive without a claxon horn.? Could they still make it? Just saw a European Fire video, just saying. LOL.
There were a few guys wearing the old bunker gear(long coats and pull ups) look closely and you'll see a few guys with it. This video was filmed around the time the job started issuing full turnout gear.
How often do the horns get changed, hourly, daily?? Lol!
"The term transmitting a 2nd alarm was back when the chief would pull the box at the street corner if he need more help. "

Wasn't there someone on the roof in the rear lying down. Did they know he was there?
at least he didn't forget to hit the 10-84 button.
@mcfrs This was 1994. I think Squad 1 was the only squad at the time. They added the others in the late 90s.
Its a wonder they can hear at all after a 30 year career hearing horns! Lol
No I'm retired. Try calling L132 maybe they can help.
At 7:34 He's walking with someone holding a white blanket. They got him
awsome pure awsome
MASKED service unit? You mean like Batman or the Green Lantern? I didn't know FDNY had a special super hero unit. ;-)
Will do.....I worked for 15 years in a 38 Bn company
I stand corrected, thanks for the info
Since when was it a competition? All the squads do their best. It's bullshit to compare.
naw i love the macks they r awesome
what a ride
I don't have any that is as good as this unfortunately... Who is your grandfather?
What was that around 5:06? Was that the pto for the engine, or the aerial as I heard the engineer on either reving up the idle?
How did you get VHS tape on a computer??

old school fire lol they wild !!! =]
there was no noise-by-law at that time ?
Been trying to find Capt. M Rodgers for years, you have a contact for him?
they only had one squad in 1994?
i thought they would have more
what is a squad?
i was told they r putting q's on all the new trucks
@mcfrs At the time this was the only Squad in I believe 1998 Engines 18 , 41 , 61 , 252 , 270 & 288 were all turned into Squads

Anyone here knows where Billy reilly E 229 is I can't find out..Cmon brothers..help a salty dog
that was me. how ya doing?
I was in a fire in the 60's firemen came and watch it burn down with me.
Didn't they just switch from hip boots when this was filmed?
Yes....if you look carefully during the video, you will see some guys in the old boots and some guys in bunker gear.
280StJohnsPl I wonder how everybody was reacting to the switch. I imagine a lot of guys hated it at first because they weren't used to the new stuff.
Yes...at first.
I was used to hip boots and didn't like the switch to the new short rubber boots.
But I liked the bunker pants and leather boots....so much more protection and mobility
Other than some shakiness in the video,(Which isn't your fault,) I liked your video a lot,
@mcfrs I stand corrected... you are right!
The Real Deal!! If you could see inside there wasn’t much work! 31 years on the job.
Fdny rescue 2 gets assigned to the fire 1:30 officer hitting the glass partition 1:44 1075 2:13
care to explain both of your comments. Not sure I'm following you...
SK is that you?
people really did drive better back then... they knew too get out the fukn way of the fire truck
Only squad in the city? Not true. Squad 41 in the Bronx.
@vickiormindyb they eft the people in tower one because after the south tower collapsed they realized how unstable the towers were and decided to evacuate in an attempt to prevent any further loss of firefighters if the south tower were to collapse which it did

OLD SQUAD 1!
I didn't like it. I loved it! I was only 4 months old then btw.
"Back" to the Q's? If you want to talk about going back, it's to the Federal Model 28!
Just asking, where you get this list from???
Please say you have a source that proves this to be the case and are not just making them up as you go along! If there is please share the source with us! I would be interested in the dangers and occupational hazards of other jobs.
