- This documentary follows the work of the FDNY rescue companies 1 and 2 prior to 9/11 and then afterwards. There was a heavy loss of life of Rescue company personnel at the twin towers collapse and this shows the effect it has had on the personnel since that tragic day.

I don’t understand why people admire celebrities so much. I used to think they could do something I can’t do by remembering all their lines and everything. Then I started seeing all these bloopers videos and stuff and realized how many times they have to do it until they get it right. There’s no do-overs with firefighters. Either they do it right the first time or someone can die. That’s Admirable ❤️🔥💯🥰

A friend of mine was a firefighter in Derby, UK at the time (now retired) he has been to NY many times to pay his respects, it hit him hard too. :'(
Im a now retired Fireman from Michigan. My buddy & I had the privilege to ride with Rescue 2 in 1990 for a week. Then later 50E & 19L in the Bronx. I learned so much from these guys. It changed my whole career. There were a few Chiefs that looked the other way when we arrived in our Bunker gear from MI & went to work with the companies. I actually wore FDNY boots & a coat because the guys all wanted to try out the gear we had. We all learned from each other and gained life long friendships. Many of the guys we worked with died on 9/11. My heart still hurts. I’ll never forget any of them! RIP brothers.

Hey, go find the documentary from 2 French filmmakers. They were in NY recording a documentary when the planes hit and they went to the towers with the chief. You see MANY men who don’t return to the firehouse.

I'm not American but i remember watching this terrible footage of 9/11 , trying to get my babies to sleep, my husband and i couldn't believe what we where watching, 🤤😨😰😢 i couldn't watch anymore and left the room to settle my babies, my husband has recently died full of cancer vietnam vet ! I don't face the tower sort of fires but being in the country Australia we face bush fires every summer some days terrible 😨🤤 just lucky i guess that it hasn't took me yet , but its there every summer , good good very brave men , im sooo very very sorry they walked into hell ! Chief Downey made the off duty rescues squads stay out of harms way but refused to leave more of his men behind and went back into the North Tower to wait for them. Such an honorable man.
On Sept 11, 2001, while responding to Box Alarm 8087, 403 of my Brother police officers, paramedics, and firefighters gave their lives while safely evacuating over 25k people from the World Trade Center complex. They didn't ask anyone who they voted for, where they lived, the name of their god, or how much was in their bank account. They just kept climbing, even after the first tower fell. Most were never identified or recovered.
17 years later, over 120 FDNY personnel alone are listed as having died from exposure to Ground Zero. Ground Zero is STILL killing those who responded. We will NOT go silently.

I had the privilege to be a firefighter for 25 years with some of the greatest men and woman in the north of England, like all families we argued and fight, but we all knew when It matted they would be there for you. On this terrible day I was thinking about getting for a night shift when I watched this horror unfold. On arriving at my fire station to start my shift I have never found a more somber and quiet place, the off going crews were just sitting around totally stunned. It became clear that their thoughts were not so much for the lost fireman but more for the families left behind. That might sound harsh, but I think it shows compassion. They knew they could do nothing for those lost but wondered how they could help those left behind. I know a great many uk fireman dug deep in their pockets to help those left behind. Like myself a great many uk firefighters lost NYFD friends in this tragedy . we all knew how big their hearts and hospitality were and many a tear was quietly shed in private. We remember them everyday and they will never be forgotten as long as there is a fireman alive.

I was in 7th grade on 11 September. I’ll never forget what i saw and felt, and what my father and other good men I knew told me about these guys. Now 30 years old I realize what I can do to honor these men amongst men. EMT school starts when quarantine is over, and I will not rest until I’m on a rescue truck. Rescue 1&2, I will make you proud.

Was 21yrs old on 9/11. Saw the 2nd plane hit live on T.v. 3 months later I enlisted in the Army. Still get chills, still get teary eye, & yes I still get pissed in what they did to us. Never forget.

Chief Downey died with honor choosing to save his remaining men by keeping them put and going back for his men still in the building. He didn't want to leave his men in the North Tower behind.
The part about Chief Downey and the other chief’s really choked me up. Every first responder that went into those towers that day is a hero, but the fact the chiefs could have got out, but stayed because they couldn’t leave their men behind is one of the most courageous/honourable things I’ve ever heard.
This and more like this needs to be shown in schools, kids think 9/11 is a joke to meme about.

I sat here for at least 10 full minutes trying to come up with anything to describe that. I just can’t say anything except, Thank you all for everything you did and tried to do. I know the severity and I know the loss, but that sentence is just something on another world. 😞

As I am set to retire, this still sits heavy within my heart. Although I have never been to New York, as I watched the tv on the morning of September 11th, I broke out in tears as I knew the devastation as the first tower fell. As a brother firefighter, captain and as a chief, I will never ever forget the Brothers I lost that day!!

It's because of these men and women I do what I do. I joined our department in 2007 as a probey and just climbed the ladder to now be the Chief of the department. I thank these men and women every day I go to work and every call we run. RIP brothers and sisters.
A day that I'll never forget. We owe a debt of gratitude to those firemen, and all those who come running when others are running away.
I still carry the extreme sadness and pain from that day. Seeing those fire fighters enter the Twin Towers and then the collapse. Then seeing the survivors gathering, covered in dust, sitting on the curb in disbelief, checking on each other and pouring water over their faces. Then the sounds of the personal body alarms of those not moving; piercing the silence, eerily counting the souls lost. It was just overwhelming. I will never ever forget the cruelty of that day. They will always be my hero’s. Firefighters come to save you. ❤
As a transportation driver for thirty years I always say prayers as I pass the sacred grounds of the towers. I thought to myself whether they hear my prayers for them and if I made a difference. When I woke up the next morning the alarm clock flashed 911 .

I agree. It almost makes you feel like you're a civilian, watching these guys. I've had about seven house fires in my first year and a half. These guys have probably had about 200 fires at 5-50 stories throughout 30 years. What a record, and what an awfully sad waste of life on 9/11.

If anyone is interested there's a great book by the nephew of Ray Downey who was the FDNY Chief of Special Operations Command and perished in the attacks. The book is called The Last Men Out and is about FDNY Rescue Company 2 and it features a lot of the guys who died in this video.

Had Rescue 1 work in my building in 2015.The building was going to be demolished.They would come and practice rescue drills in the elevator shafts and other situations.They let me sit in the drivers seat of the rig and I got tears in my eyes.Capt Morris was in command.Thank you for all your service and sacrafice.Never Forget.....God bless the FDNY from LOcal 94 Operating Engineers.......
What really broke me up was just how many NYFD Firefighters went into and stayed in the towers - knowing that they were going to die - and they could have easily escaped and survived, but that bond is too strong and they will not leave their men behind. That's not only commendable, but it's damned heartbreaking. I remember seeing some photos from that day, and those faces knew they were not going to make it, but they stayed at their post. I reckon that's a bond that firefighters share world-wide, but the NYFD Firefighters are the best of the best.
I was a E911 dispatcher and I was in training that day with Fire/EMS. When the first building fell; the room went silent and one guy said, “God knows how many firefighters just died.”
These people must be remembered. The abilities they harnessed were the best they achieved. They did their best in what became a problem none could realize.
All these years later and very hard to see and still makes you cry. God Bless the FDNY and all who lost there lives on that bad day.

I can't imagine what those guys are still going through. I was a medic/firefighter for little backwoods rural departments for a little over 15 years and the PTSD is enough to make me wanna die sometimes. These guys must be way worse off than I am.

Ignore the 12 year old. Good treatments available these days cognitive behavioural treatments get very good results. Get doctor to refer you to a clinical psychologist who knows prolonged exposure.

@@TeaTimePhilosopher cognitive behavioral therapy can work wonders on many issues. I am diagnosed as having bipolar spectrum disorder but havent had the manic episodes or massive depressions since learning cbt and other ways to manage.
I was on duty at Station 12 Payson Fire Department. I watched this happen and I cried for every Hero i knew we lost that day. Port Authority, NYPD, and my Brothers in the NYFD!

It’s been 22 years, and I still watch and rewatch these documentaries, and look for new ones, especially as the anniversary rolls around once more, to never forget the unbelievable bravery of these actual superheroes in the flesh. Forget Marvel and DC. The men among men were and are the real deal. I still weep all the way through.

It is fortunate to have this documentary to immortalize their story. They will always be remembered.
It takes a very special person to be a fireman. You've got to be willing to charge the gates of hell with a fire hose. You've got to be able to climb dizzing heights,dive in the swiftest most forbidding waters and still love your fellow man even when the do not deserve it. You've got to work the most gruesome traffic accidents and treat those who have attack family members, friends and fellow firemen. They stand up when the call for help in the most impossible of all situations goes out.

Heros. Nothing else. While everyone else is running away from the fire the firemen are running into the fire to save the people in the community. Ignoring all human survival instincts just to save another persons life. It takes a special kind of selflessness to understand just how brave these men and women are.

When RUclips first came around, I would dislike videos that made me sad and angry, now a days I just like things if I appreciate the presentation even if the content is upsetting. Social media culture is still a bit uneven in the reason to like or dislike things. I like the think the people who dislike the video, disliked it because it was horrible what happened to these heros.
I had the pleasure to ride along with Engine 245 in Brooklyn. They are truly the definition of a Firefighter brotherhood.

I don’t know how many times I have seen this documentary. It is very well-made. May all the victims of September 11, especially the first responders and firefighters, rest in peace. We thank you. New York thanks you. Washington, DC and Shanksville, PA, thank you. People all around the world thank you because of what you do and that’s putting your life on the line so that others may live. Every firefighter around the world is a hero.
I just have so much admiration for these brave men!! No words can describe how amazing they are!! To all of those that died, may you rest peacefully in Jesus arms!! And to all of those that live with the scars and memories of losing your loved ones and friends, may Jesus comfort and bless you for all your bravery and compassion you have towards mankind. 20 years has gone by in a blink of an eye. Their memory lives on fresh in our minds forever. God bless all the victims of that day and beyond. Their bravery, heroism, and sacrifice in the face of certain death in the midst of utterly unimaginable horror will never be forgotten.

I had the honor and privilege to learn from rescue 1 in 2000 I worked in a hospital those guys were true professional firemen thankfully we never had a incident planes were our biggest threat two airports in sight from our rooftop glad I could pass on what we learned from them I miss talking with my friend he would say you wonderful bastard in that new York accent. nyfd the best in the world. If I'm sick I want a doctor if I'm trapped and my life depends on it I want a NYFD rescue team. prayers to the family and friends.

This is got to be one of the most powerful documentaries I've ever seen when it comes to emergency rescue services, it's a terrible time that day on 9/11. Some people think the job is fun, challenging, demanding and sometimes well worth while, but it sometimes can be dangerous by putting their lives on the line in-order to save others and when you lose one of your own, they still find their bodies and bring them out to see if they're accounted for and bring them back home to their loved ones, (family, friends and colleagues). They''ll always have our respects both living and deceased, for those living today, they carry one with their traditions of saving lives, that is what they do best. Just do their very best, learn everything they know from past experiences comparing to the incidents they're facing now and try and save as many lives as they can. R.I.P. to the fire and rescue personals of 9/11.

I once walked past what I believe is the FEMA building in Brooklyn. I stopped and pondered about what was going on inside that building on September 11. Thank you to all the heroes that day and every day. We love you!!

The first responders who died that day died doing the most heroic, ballsy thing in history. Can you imagine the terror of even being near the buildings let alone walk inside and start climbing toward the fire. These men are another breed, we lost too many in one day.
Does everyone remember the line from Saving Private Ryan: " Earn This " ? To all the paid and volunteers in our fire service, we enjoy the honor and admiration of our fellow citizens, because of the heros of 9-11-01. Thank-You FDNY. We will never forget. Semper Fi
