The END Of Tunisia! 🌅 Sunset At Cap Bon

Happily, I woke just in time to watch the hazy red sun re-emerge from the opposite horizon. One fisherman very kindly brought me a plate of melon and grapes but the group when they left abandoned several plastic bottles where they’d been camping. I’d already gathered a bag of litter from around my camp, and picked up another for good measure as I heaved Gibbo through the loose sand. If I could carry other people’s rubbish out, they could carry out their own.
In a cafe the owner was absent but the TV was playing a Quran recitation so I pumped the tyres while I waited for him to return from - I presume - his prayers. They continue to lose about 10 maybe 15 psi on the back, each day, which I can live with for now.
10kms north I visited the Punic town of Kerkuane but with little more than foundations remaining, the on-site museum was the more interesting part of the visit.
Returning to the coast at El Haouaria I washed off the sweat with a quick dip before beginning the sweat-inducing climb up Djebel Sidi Abiod. I’d planned to go all the way to the summit but an intriguing track to the west saved me 2kms at 10% as I found a stunning view out over Zembra island. Several tourists came and went, it getting especially busy at sunset. (One family congratulated me on riding “all the way” from where they’d seen me 30kms back at Kerkuane 😁)
After the sky began to loose its vibrant orange colour and the last of sunset-watches finally departed I set up camp in the completely still evening. Without the fly I could see the Milky Way through the mesh inner and heard nothing but the one or two stray mosquitoes who’d snuck into the tent with me.

It is not the end of Tunisia perhaps, it is the highest point in Africa compared to South Africa. 😅
Almost 😉 the most northerly point in Africa is in Tunisia though - at Cape Angela near Bizerte, i went there at the beginning of my circuit 🇹🇳🚴🏻♀️
