There are over 8 billion people on this planet if I'm not mistaken, and for over 90% of them, this would be the achievement of a lifetime transcribing this album down to the drumming of Elvin Jones!! This is something most of us would have artificial intelligence do instead of a single person. You have a phenomenal ear to be able to understand everything going on in this album!! A monumental achievement!! Depending on how accurate it is, a lot of musicians would pay top dollar to get their hands on this. I can't imagine how long it took you!!
Nice. I’m still serious about the bass transcription! Just haven’t had time! Great work. I appreciate that Coltrane’s words are superimposed on “Psalm”.
“I would like to show people the divine using a musical language that goes beyond words. I want to talk to people’s soul.” Damn Johnny, you truly succeded…
This album has been with me since the 70's and I wore out countless tapes listening to it. It's one of the most beautiful and inspirational albums ever recorded and you're transcription gives a whole new meaning to it. I really hope lot's of other people will discover the beauty of this album through your efforts.
Omree!! Dude!! Awesome and phenomenal work - and that is no jive! I'm so glad this came up on my radar- great to see what you've done - and needless to say, makes me so very joyful and proud of you!🙌🏼👏🏼🎶💜 And: Marcelo- Wow! Beautiful, you cats.
God, that first movement... It's like McCoy Tyner just picked a chord shape and then started moving it around randomly, and yet somehow it works. Sorcery!
Thank You! Lots of love and effort was needed to get all this written down. However, anybody who wants to learn properly this stuff must still pick these solos by ear and notate them on their own. Afterwards they can cross reference to your transcription. Jazz enters the brain through ears and exits through the instrument. Reading somebody else's transcriptions is okay too, but it is much less efficient than transcribing.
@@sheilamacdougal4874 You are free to believe whatever you want, but academic research and essays from established Jazz Masters and educators (for example Dave Liebman) prove my point. There is a whole lineage of the transcription process in jazz dating back to Lennie Tristano and his teachings.
@@vmertane There's a whole lineage, so what? There's also a whole lineage of some of the greatest jazz musicians who never spent time doing transcriptions. Of course listening to the masters, learning licks, reharm tricks, rhythmic and harmonic devices from them is essential. I'm talking about the laborious process of transcribing. Charlie Parker couldn't even read music.
I'm no expert but I agree that you'd probably learn more and in less time if you transcribe yourself instead of relying on someone else's transcription. You'd be relying on your ears instead of your eyes, which makes all the difference in the world I believe.
Sorry, Omree my English isn't so good... But what you have done with this Video is absolutely great great work ! Thank you very, verey much for this big, big artwork ! Thank you so much !!!
This is utterly fantastic! Thank you so much. One question: is there a note missing at bar 174 (the first f# of the f#-a-f#-b sequence)? Or does Coltrane not play that first f#?
Thanks! And good question! I don't hear that first F# in that instance, so I didn't notate it there. He might be playing it in a way such that it's disguised.
man nice job, but i would like to point out that some left hand piano voicings expecially during McCoy Tyner solo in Pursuance are actually different from what you wrote. but other than that super nice work!
@@OmreeG minute 17:13 bar 589 and 590. the note of the last voicing of bar 589 and the first voicing of 590 are from bottom to top: Bb-C-F, instead of what you wrote (G-C-F). also minute 17:39 bar 621 and bar 633 you forgot the F in the Db-G-C voicing. also minute 18:21 bar 669 the voicing in the middle of the bar is not D-Ab-C# , but Eb-Ab-C#. and also i think in some other point of the transcription. maybe i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure
Thanks for the feedback - I wanted to leave some of it out in order to allow the completion of the work to be done by others. I believe you can find transcriptions of the bass lines for Acknowledgement and Resolution on RUclips. Hopefully someone does the other parts completely and we can piece it all together.
there are a few different parts to it, the piano and sax together (like in the video) is 84 pages. Piano by itself is 43 pages. Bass and drums sum up to 9 pages. Tenor by itself is 22 pages
It’s not interesting in the same way a lot of Coltrane is, to be sure. It’s less pure jazz, less be-bop based. I personally prefer it to any other Coltrane album overall, and I think its more accessible to more people as well.

בנאדם, תודה על העבודה שלך!
haha I was playing the second c# in the intro an octave too low. I was totally gotta expose you but of course I was the fool. Thank you!
Thank you so much for enriching your fellow musicians with this.
This is absolut insane holy shit. I love you so much

Amazing. May I suggest putting this on Soundslice? That would make it much easier to learn/practice from than a RUclips video.
Decided to try it out. Here's part 1: www.soundslice.com/slices/c-Ckc/

Transcribing jazz is almost an oxymoron, but i am glad you have done it.
Also McCoy Tyner is a genius

Could you enable print settings on the Soundslice for all 3? That'd be awesome.
Great job. But can't you include all the drum and bass too. Not just the piano and sax?

I'm trying to play along on my guitar and Coltrane's sax seems to be a whole step too high. Is there a solo sax transcription in C?
If you'd like the complete sheet music you can get it here (includes individual parts and parts in Concert):

He is great to be able to do this BUT YOU GUYS LEFT OUT THE BLACK MAN WHO CREATED THIS MASTER PIECE THE GREAT JOHN COLTRANE.
