Good for you, Daniel! What an incredible feat! 2 1/2 hours and 50 ragtime pieces from memory! ... just because you were bored and as a hobby! You express many features of what Ragtime welcomes and Eubie Blake encouraged: "Play it through the first time as the composer wrote ... then play it the second time the way you think it should have been written!" Fast ... slow ... Liberace ... JoAnn Castle ... even the piano rolls of Joplin ... tempos are personal and subjective ... you do you ... the "wishers" will always have something to find to nick-pick about ... but if they could do ... they would ... rather than comment. Keep up the good work!
I am a nearly 70 y/o struggling through The Maple Leaf Rag, making progress everyday. You bring great joy to my heart listening to you perform these forgotten gems. I will practice twice as long tomorrow, motivated by your great talent. Sincere thanks for sharing this!
Ok, so I've visited this video about 50 times. I listen to it while charting on my patients, while paying bills, while doing my taxes. This has been the background music of my life. I personally play ragtime myself, only Scott Joplin and a few others (I used to have the Black and White and 12th st. rags in my hands). This video has really made me a believer in learning non-scott joplin rags. Again, thanks a million!
@@pequod3782 Can't go wrong with ragtime and healthcare! :) Good luck. Centering your career around helping others is a really good move, and will make you love going to work.
You are so fortunate. I was able to do the same by violin. A medical catastrophic illness ended that. But, it came back as I watched my daughter and son play for me. And they still do. A great piano virtuoso such as you cannot exist without great appreciators of the piano virtuoso. I venture to guess that you bring a smile to the faces of your patients. 😄
I play accordion. After discovering ragtime and especially Scott Joplin, I can't play anything else. Listening to these 50 pieces, almost all by Scott is exciting. Incredible. Excellent!
What I love about this, aside from the amazing playing, is that he keeps in the mistakes to show that this kind of music is difficult and everyone makes mistakes. It also just gives it character. You’ve earned yourself a new subscriber!
I am so amazed how long he can sit there and hammer out one complicated measure after another, piece after piece! Been watching the clock in the corner. I haven't seen any skips!
You know how it is, rabbit hole.......I thought you were talented until I read dudes comment you did it without sheet music. Tip of the hat to you my friend. you are gifted.
My congratulations. Remembering by heart all those rags is quite a feast. But recalling Eubie Black and Scott Joplin, remember that rag may not be played fast. That ought to have meant 4 hours of ragtime playing....for our delight!!

Not only do i stand absolutely stunned at your memory and piano playing skills, i also admire your hands' stamina. My forearms usually start aching a few minutes after i try playing anything fast and i have to rest them a bit. But I guess it gets better the more you play. Anyway, this is absolutely epic and i like to listen to this often, whether it is playing videogames or studying. It's so long that its replayability is almost infinite.
This music is better than any anything you could ever take. I am sitting here listening, and I have the biggest, dumbest grin on my face! Thank you so much Daniel. Man this is great ! Some mistakes, sometimes lost totally, but 50 ragtimes in a row like this? I doubt many people can do it. Great job. I learned just Entertainer and Maple Leaf Rag and after a few months I forgot half of those songs... I wonder how u remember everything.
Don't have to tell you how talented you are. I am going to bet that your mom made you take piano lessons, instead of baseball or soccer. I could be wrong - but you have a gift, and thank you for sharing it with us. Wish I could be as productive when I am bored!
Thank you for including the score and sheets of music. It makes it that much more rich to see your video of amazing playing!! Way to go, very impressive!
Goodness 😀💕 why did I find this at 3:00 AM 😅 I found a huge Ragtime piano book for $1 at the library sale this week. Great work 👍👏 Saving this video for reference.
ive only recently got into ragtime and why are all the pieces so cool. i cant even imagine the joy of playing them think id break the keys playing out of excitement

Awesome comment. I have wanted to learn piano since I was in high school to play rag time. Now I just make computer sound music lol love this 🔥🍻

You gotta be a hardcore piano player to play 2 whole hours of what is already considered to be a hard genre to play.
