Coltrane only performed Love Supreme live once, on July 26, 1965 in Antibes France. The 12:40 you see here is the only surviving footage of that historic concert.
Coltrane played love supreme live three times : one here in france and two in the usa in 1964 in philadelphie club showboat and 1967 few weeks before his passing in a black communauty meeting.
Coltrane also performed it in Seattle in fall of 1965 and Impulse Records has announced the discovery of high-quality tapes of the complete recording which will be released as a 2-LP set on October 8, 2021. Can’t wait!
This is Everything! I’ve often described this as Coltrane attempting to reach out and up to touch the face of God. It’s as though I can feel him straining to reach out to God and being frustrated as to reach beyond the limitations of his voice. The purest of genius.
@@c.a.t.732 You have the Right to believe what you want. As do I. You feeling compelled to exalt your non-belief if God doesn’t impact anything or change anything. So, what’s your point? To make yourself feel superior? Good for you!
I had no clue there was a video of this performance! I've been listening to it for years - the Juan-les-Pins performance of A Love Supreme has got to be my second favorite Coltrane recording (only behind Olatunji). Thank you for uploading!
Thank you so much, this is like his swan song, or like Robert Johnson's Crossroads, Dock of the Bay, Hendrix Hear my Train Coming. On video, history is made!!

For people all around the world to be able to see this masterpiece performed live it's truly a blessing

It's amazing the pace he went at for years. Unbelievable. Spiritual.
The Voice Of The Aesthetic Phenomenon...
i love the way he relaxed behind the beat in the beginning it created a feeling of "tension"

@@timkimware3537 yeah, that was insane news !
the video is 12:40 minutes long, but the live performance is fully recorded, just look for it in the disc 2 of the deluxe version of a love supreme.

Fantastic description!
Or maybe the frustration lies in trying to reach a God who doesn't exist.

@@greasedog I wasn't "feeling compelled to exalt" anything, just positing an alternative idea. No need to get hysterical.
