5:26 A natural alternative for peripheral neuropathy
In this video, we’re going to talk about an amazing natural alternative for peripheral neuropathy.
Diabetic neuropathy usually affects the bottom of the feet and sometimes the hands and is one of the first signs of a blood sugar problem.
Chemotherapy, hypothyroidism, autoimmune diseases, medications, viruses, and Lyme disease can also lead to peripheral neuropathy. However, high blood sugar and diabetes are the most common causes.
Diabetes wears down the myelin sheath over time, leaving exposed nerves at the bottom of the feet.
Peripheral neuropathy can feel like hypersensitivity, burning, severe pain, or itching. If it’s not corrected, it can lead to ulcers in the lower part of the body and gangrene.
Consuming too much sugar makes it difficult for the mitochondria to get enough fuel. Too much sugar also leads to nutrient deficiencies and inhibits the function of enzymes that bring fuel to the cell. When sugar blocks the body’s mechanism for getting energy to the cells, it utilizes alternative pathways for energy.
One of these alternative pathways produces sorbitol, a sugar alcohol. Sorbitol can damage the lens of the eye, leading to cataracts. It can also affect the retina, leading to diabetic retinopathy. Sorbitol affects the cells that compose the myelin sheath. It can also convert to fructose, creating even more problems.
Benfotiamine is a fat-soluble form of vitamin B1 that can help support the nerves. Try taking 300 mg of benfotiamine 4 times daily.
Lipoic acid is a cofactor for the enzyme that allows you to metabolize excess glucose. Vitamins B5, B2, and B3 are also cofactors for this enzyme.
Diabetes damages your nervous system and brain over time, so it’s imperative to correct your diet, which I believe is the root cause of peripheral neuropathy. Learn more about the benefits of a low-carb diet and intermittent fasting in my other videos.

My friends wife got neuropath. Cut the carbs and went gluten free and she lost the neuropathy and quite a bit of weight while she was at it.
Same. I started down the road with insulin resistance. I've been doing keto now for two years and got back to the gym. Lost 30 lbs, the neuropathy, sleep apnea and all the other nasty side effects that came with eating refined carbs and junk.

@@Drberg do you have any videos about bromelain ? I have just restarted using it and I am having good results for inflammation. I have tried nattokainse twice but inflammation was really bad (I suspect a soy reaction)
I have had mild peripheral Neuropathy, I am not diabetic. I have tried Alpha Lipoic Acid and Benfotiamine, I practice intermittent fasting and dirty Keto. For me it really has been the B1 that has had the greatest results. It has taken around 6 months of B1 supplements but I have almost no symptoms now. Don't eat sugar, go low carb and take B1 as Benfotiamine.
On Easter Sunday 2017, I ate a whole bunch of milk chocolate all at once. My fingertips burned for 3 days straight. I decided I had to do something, so I cut out all carbs immediately. I also adopted the healthy keto and intermittent fasting plan, including 7 to 10 cups of leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables, mostly raw but also some cooked. I didn't care if I lost weight. I just didn't want to get diabetes like most of my family.
My symptoms cleared up instantly and never came back. I also lost 30 pounds slowly, over the next 6 months. I've never gained back the weight, and it's been 7 years.

I had my A1C up high and stopped all carbs and now I am totally normal .
It's important to take "R-Lipoic Acid" with a "R" at the front of the name. The other forms are cheaper but do not work. Great talk 🙂
Great video. I have 3 diabetic patients who now use Berberine instead of Metformin. Took a bit to get their doctors on board but they agreed and each has seen a significant drop in hgbA1C in three months time. Healthcare should be about healing
How much berberine do they take?
One video said 3 500mg tablets per day (I think). Mine says take one per day.
I took one metformin after lunch, two days in a row and it made my symptoms worse. Then I remembered videos about berberine, so I googled it.
I didn't take any more metformin and tried the berberine instead, along with a complete change in my diet.
Hopefully it will work 🙏🏾

OMG!! Ten years ago, I faced this issue, and doctors were unable to diagnose it. They prescribed physiotherapy and various medications, but none showed improvement. Then I disposed of the medications and decided to self-manage with calcium, magnesium, multivitamin and fish oil. Surprisingly, the pain vanished!!! Dr Berg you are superstar, you saved so many lives with your video
In my mid-50s. I had neuropathy in my right foot, but I've never tested as diabetic. In a completely seperate fitness effort, I started taking 100% DV of all vitamins and minerals, mostly multi-vitamins with a few supplements. Nothing crazy. Also shifted over to carnivore diet. I hit the gym twice a day, with an hour of cardio on the treadmill. Over the last year, I lost weight and muscled up. My neuropathy slowly disappeared at a rate that I never noticed, but it's now a year later and I suddenly realize that I have NONE of it going on in my foot anymore. Incredible.
It's important to differentiate nerve pain from other causes of pain. If your feet are hurting, when you're standing and walking, that's usually a musculoskeletal pain such as tendinitis. If the pain primarily occurs when you're off your feet, such as when you're laying in bed at night, it's more likely to be nerve pain. To further muddy the waters. If you are pain-free when you go to bed, but you're awakened by your feet being in intense pain, this can be due to a circulation issue.
Thanks Thanks The very much for the clarity
It can also be, as in my case, lower spinal damage. It’s best not to follow any advice until the cause of the symptoms has been diagnosed.
I have lower spine issues and psoriatic arthritis- not diabetic but overweight with stomach…I don’t know which thing is the problem but I have to take Lyrica, Cymbalta, opioids and Cosentyx shots to function…still have burning, tingling feet, legs, back of buttocks
@@teelinni I have been on Lyrica, and a handful of other tabs, for four years now. I also had a “nerve stimulator” implanted two years ago. I get by on roughly two hours of sleep in every twenty four hours. I can use crutches to get around, but have to concentrate on every step and keep my legs locked straight, or my knees give way. If someone interrupts me, I’m on the floor. The lower spine op I had, from L4 to S3, just made matters worse.
@@teelinni
I'm so sorry for the pain you're going through! I can't take Lyrica it makes me go blind (Thank God I got my sight back eventually when I went off it! I also can't take Cymbalta it made me gain lots of weight and made my pain worse and it really messed with my stomach 😢. So I was continued on pain medication and my migraine medication (which I had to try several before they were able to find one that helped me & then a year to two yrs ago they took me off it even though it was the ONLY one that helped me 😮😭). I have been trying to take as many vitamins that Dr. Berg recommends that I can afford after having to go on disability because of my screwed up neck, entire spine and hips and feet. And I stopped all the painful epidurals in my neck, lower back and feet...which made me gain lots of weight (which the pain doctor actually botched a nerve abalation in my left side of my neck and I couldn't use my entire side of my body for 6-8wks!!!😮😳😱😡 I also had the assistant blow out my vein trying to do the IV for the nerve abalation and I should have sued them because that vein is still messed up and nurses always want to use it because they say "Oh that's a big vein !"😳
I tell them it's big/huge now because the pain doctor's assistant didn't know how to do a IV and distroyed my vein and its NEVER went back to normal in 5yrs.
So I don't trust any medical team anymore!!!
Then after the Botched nerve abalation they wouldn't let her ever do IV again and so she gave me a Xanax for a epidural in my neck and shoulder and Holy Cow they didn't wait until it took effect and I tried to tell them and I felt every bit of the pain and didn't get relaxed until my friends were driving me home 😮😔😭.
I certainly hope you have had better treatment's with your doctor's and nurses etc.
And hopefully you've had good luck and results with the vitamins recommended in the videos 🙏.
B1 has helped with calf pain in my legs, magnesium has helped with the insomnia, but I need to increase the mg.
Best wishes ❤
I have severe neuropathy in my feet that I've been dealing with for years. It's so horrible. I'm not diabetic and so far no doctor knows why I have it. I don't eat sugar and only drink water. I've tried everything including ALA and B vitamins. Nothing helps except one thing from the doctors, Lyrica, but Lyrica has horrible side effects. I had to ask to get my dose lowered, so it doesn't work as well, but the side effects are less. The worst one is it messes with your memory where it takes longer than usual to think of the answer to a question. For example if someone asks what other movies an actor is in, it takes me a lot longer to think of the answer even though I know it. It gets really frustrating and I wish I could find a natural way to get relief.
Dr berg is the best
I appreciate your kind words.
Sorbitol is also found in ultra processed foods.
I am disabled with severe diabetic polyneuropathy I weaned myself off of lyrica, which made me bedridden. I'm able to walk again but my balance good. I take several supplements that help with the symptoms and the pain. Moringa, acetyl L-Carnitine and alpha lipoic acid. Still working to keep my blood sugar under control with my doctor. I believe that some of nerves may have regenerated a while ago. I don't believe that mine will go away completely. I also take B1 and B12

My Age 45 CW;330 SW420 A1C;5. Kinda stalemate with my weightloss journey but determined to avoid weighloss surgery.
Currently on a waiting list to see my neurologist again. My nerve test came back Serve Neuropathy last month. Not that I needed the test to define it. I have also had hypothyroidism since childhood. Sometimes compression socks help a bit but mostly its just constant. This year my hands have also shared in the joys of THE ACHY BURN as well. Sometimes if I soak my feet on scolding hot water it numbs them for a awhile. It seems these things that added relief are helping less n less. Im trying to dig deep n really focus more on my diet again (cutting carbs/sugars) and adding ANY vitamins I can. Im currently taking a strong D3 once a week and a B12 shot once a month. Im hoping these suggestions might add more relief. It seems others who describe my pain level with neuropathy are 10 plus years older than than me. I feel pretty depressed about the whole dilemma.

I developed peripheral neuropathy from undiagnosed celiac disease. Not entirely sure of the science explanation but I've reversed about 60% of the symptoms just from going gluten free, been flirting with keto/carnivore diets to try to expedite the healing as well. My first step I wanted to take was to just add in organ meats and make sure I could have that diverse amount of nutrients before removing fruits.

What is the correlation between plantar fascitis and neuropathy when no issues of diabetes are indicated?
Thank you for the great videos, Dr. Berg. I have a question. Do those advices work for neuropathy cause by chemotherapy? I'm diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and after 6 months of FOLFOX I've got this neuropathy problem. It’s a puzzling issue…with several “co-morbidities”.

@@spartanwarrior2520 I bought the 100 mg B 1 from piping rock (hope it's ok to say that) for my mother in laws dog, because her dog was having seizures and I read that B 1 was good for those as their kibble decimates the B 1 from the dog. My dad had peripheral nephropathy for decades.. UN-diagnosed until the 80s.. I never remember him having hair below his calves.. and he wasn't diabetic. He didn't have an auto immune issue or any chemo.. No one ever came up with an official cause but he said it started after he mistakenly got his feet into av gas while in the air force.. soaked right through his boots.. never had athletes foot after that either.
Let me qualify what Dr. Berg is saying: my daughter and I did OMAD keto with intermittent fasting for a year. Not only did I lose 80 pounds, but I used to constantly have crippling pains in my feet and ankles where suddenly I couldn’t bear any weight on them and while we were on the program it went away . Now that I’ve not been following it so well the pains have returned. I gotta get back on track!
What advice would you give somebody with CIDP?
Keep away from sugar and carbs.
I developed neuropathy while I was going through chemo in 2017. It’s really hard to call what I feel “pain“. It feels like someone poured sand or something between my toes and some type of cement at the top of my feet. My fingers slightly have it as well but it’s more annoying than painful. I really miss waking up and going about my day without this discomfort😢
My husband is in the same boat after chemo.. alpha lipoic acid 600mg seems to help him!
Niacinamide. B3
Like you're wearing four socks some days and when you wake up and stand it feels like the bottoms of your feet are sore and you have super glue on the bottoms of them?
Chemo caused mine too. Esp in my feet. Finished chemo in 2016. Now in 2024 most of it is finally gone. Just a bit of residual in right foot. Good luck. May it all go away.

You are very welcome, glad it helps!
My dad had Peripheral Neuropathy. He started doing red light therapy on his feet and hands. Did wonders for them. Over time, the numbness went away and the pain. The diet is obviously the foundation of good health, but the red light therapy worked great in my Dad's case.
I have it but in my hands. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m pregnant. I been seeing a chiropractor and there’s is very little improvement. I’m due in 4!weeks. I will see if it goes away after babu
Amazing. Thanks for sharing about this. That's interesting.
@@Drberg For sure. Thanks for the great content.
You are very welcome!
@@michelleennis8195Check your blood sugars/hba1c ASAP...you could have gestational diabetes...limit your carbs and get on an exercise bike to burn the sugar off if you have T2...🤞...check with your doctor as usual...😁
I took tocotrienols every day for months because Dr Berg recommended it for other conditions I have. the vitamin e gave me turrets. i also take blood thinners. I'm very sad about the turrets.
Facts! Following Dr Berg's healthy keto plan, I have reversed T2D, plus many many other metabolic physical and mental health issues. My foot neuropathy is still healing after 4 years, but it is significantly better. Unfortunately, I had cataract surgery before I knew the truth about insulin. FORMER metabolically unhealthy T2D.
Had my left cataract done in 2022....and my feet started their random burning and paper glued to the bottom crap on 27/12/2021...the sides of my lower left leg and forearm also felt funny up until a week ago..like you had wind on them out a car window for too long .....my feet feel like mine every now and then.....then I have a bad day ...🤷♂️...nice to hear your story...😥...I eat great and ride my bike like a dushbag...😁
