In 1988, I moved to a new home in Ivanhoe....Bruce ran a news agency nearby. My Team is Melbourne...and the Dees made the GF, that year. My wife, Louise, went down to Bruce’s shop, and whilst requesting a ‘Weg’ poster, if the Dees won....asked Bruce, if he knew anything about Football?!🙄He replied, ‘Not much’
    Lol!

As a kid (and still now) he was my all time favourite player. I grew up in Heidelberg and Bruce owned the Newsagents at Lower Plenty shops. I would ride my Bike about 8 or 10 kms to his shop on Monday morning to buy the Sun on weeks when Carlton had won. I always went in very excited (thinking i was the only person who did this) to congratulate him on the win. He would thank me for my well wishes each time in gis usual 2 or 3 words. Thrn go about his business. I would go home with my Sun under.my arm to study the stats..all the time being on cloud 9 following my 2 minutes with Bruce. A true legend of the game..Amazing club man and genuine lovely. bloke.

I remember he had the Newsagency in Ivanhoe in the late 80's. I used to buy the paper of him before catching the train into the city. Did that for ages and tried to coax a few words out of him but never succeeded. You would get hello and goodbye, thats about it.

I watched Bruce Doull for 14 years and the more I reflect on that the more I realise that he was ahead of his time. He would get the ball at half back, run and then drill a beautiful drop punt like pass into the forward line. As good as I have seen!

I used to buy the paper off him in Ivanhoe on the way to work on the train when my car was being repaired.
I am a Carlton tragic but couldnt build up the courage to get him to autograph it I was also pretty quiet back then so I would nod to him hello and he would nod back. I regret missing that chance.

if he was able to be stat tracked like today's footballer he would be the text book version you would teach all kids with halfback potential.
Inspirational Team Leader , Amazing Game Vision , Text Book Halfback , A Great 1% Player Also .
Might just add that my number 1 player for 1% play was Wayne Harmes when he miss kicked and then got his own kick before it went out of bounds and slapped it 20 meters to the goal square to Ken Sheldon I think was something i can still see with my eyes closed today
