This is a different Australia on show. Lou Richards hooking up one of the best footy players of his era with cheese, denka rub and a weekend away with the missus. I miss those times.
Good on you coming from a Collingwood supporter. The rivalry then and now is still ferocious and to say that is the best compliment. Well done to you, and Bruce!
It's so good to hear respect from a Collingwood legend and Gentlemen like Lou and he's one man I have massive respect for🙏 True man, great player and also a true gentleman 🙏👍 Long live Lou Richards 💓👌
An absolute gentleman and a champion. He always performed to the best of his ability. I have never seen Bruce come second to any opponent. Well done Bruce.
Im a North supporter and remember the good old days of watching VFL games where Lou Richards and Peter Landy were commentators and I was pretty much in awe of the flying door mat Bruce Doull.A great consistent player for Carlton. He seems a bit shy on camera here, but the times we all know were very different where people had more respect back then to what people generally are now
Well said Lou. Fully deserving of his place in the VFL/AFL team of the century. Hopefully he will be recognised as an AFL Legend by the Australian Football Hall of Fame. I love you Bruce.
The greatest player EVER. As a Carlton fan he was my hero as a kid, when I began playing I wore 11 and I wore 11 on my back for 7 clubs in 3 states over 20 of 22 seasons played. Only wearing 23 for Dean Rice for 2 seasons when 11 was not available at a new club.
Good on you! I loved playing, and was spectacularly bad. My Dad was hosted by a Carlton player in the '40s (we're from NSW). For better or worse, I'm a Blues fan.
Some people have an aura Bruce Doull had the most massive aura I've ever experienced in my life I was only 8 in 1985 when I met him and he only said hello... He must have made you feel 20 feet tall and bulletproof as a teammate as an opponent you must have been quaking in your boots just at the thought of being in the forward line and as for the poor sod Bruce lined up on they just must have thought well that's me fucked..... Fair hard tough reliable brilliant run all-day skillful determined super cool Bruce Doull AFL legend ! I'm a Bulldogs fan ....
From my vantage point, Bruce Doull was a rather soft-spoken individual; not bombastic, but very decent and good. Thanks for posting this video, friend.
Bruce Doull what a player , Essentially played over 300 games with out ever making a mistake , A champion in the true sense of the word , And this from an Essendon supporter.
Even though I am a 'one-eyed' Collingwood member, 'The Flying Doormat' was the only Carlton player I liked. Brilliant, fair, consistent, fair, hard, fair & tough. He never seeked publicity or fame, but was, in my opinion, in the best 5 players I have ever had the pleasure to watch. A true superstar of the VFL/AFL!
I once spotted Bruce walking around by himself at Luna Park in Melbourne...I didn't say anything to him. I wanted to, but I was in shock...and awe! The Dencorub, the bubbly, the vintage Tasty and even the EntertainMINTS. That's not enough! They don't make 'em like they used to 😉
Wow I love this ...Im a Collingwood Supporter and have been for a very long time And man i miss the 80s football and i remember the 81 season and how Strong the Carlton side were its sad but watching this brings tears to me as i remember watching the Grand Final with my late Father .....
Seems like most of the comments have come from Collingwood supporters, used to like watching sport with my dad also now he's been gone over 2 years it's not the same as you would expect.
Barassi banned the drop-kick when arriving at Norf and the Modern Game was born..utterly destroyed by corporatism...74-85 was the Golden Age...even 74-95...96 was when Eade introduced Flooding, only possible cos of Interchange.
If only more players were like Bruce. I used to see him at his Ivanhoe news agency, a very nice man. Funny hearing the Wales bank mentioned before they merged with CBA and became Westpac.
He was pretty good all right, fearless, thoughtful, rugged and consistent. By the way, these are the real Australian accents from the past, not the cringeworthy forced over the top voices incurred often today.
If he's not in the team of the century the team of the century is worthless. A superstar Backman who always beat the great Royce Hart . And that says something. And I'm a tigers supporter.
He probably would have been ok looking enough with a Judd buzz, but the late 70s was a tough time to go bald. Love the way Lou hides all the products. Can't even see half of them lol
Wow, I only grew up watching footy in the 2000s, but I feel I should've been born 20 years earlier, just so humble Bruce.
Very admirable, honest, selfless, smart, hardworking, modest, dependable
You need to put in class. He was genuine class
This is a different Australia on show. Lou Richards hooking up one of the best footy players of his era with cheese, denka rub and a weekend away with the missus. I miss those times.
One of the greatest and most consistent players ever played the game...you're a legend Bruce ...and I'm a Collingwood supporter .
Completely agree and I’m a North supporter.
MU FC not you again dickhead !
Good on you coming from a Collingwood supporter. The rivalry then and now is still ferocious and to say that is the best compliment. Well done to you, and Bruce!
It's so good to hear respect from a Collingwood legend and Gentlemen like Lou and he's one man I have massive respect for🙏
True man, great player and also a true gentleman 🙏👍
Long live Lou Richards 💓👌
Great comments from all even from opposition clubs!
Thank you all for your appreciation of a great football player!
Bruce was one of the best👍👌💓
An absolute gentleman and a champion. He always performed to the best of his ability. I have never seen Bruce come second to any opponent. Well done Bruce.

My fav player as a little kid, the Flying Doormat. Legend.
Well said Lou. Fully deserving of his place in the VFL/AFL team of the century. Hopefully he will be recognised as an AFL Legend by the Australian Football Hall of Fame. I love you Bruce.
Oh Bruce doull you have been and will always be my favorite player for the blues. You're a quality person on off the ground

Very few players are universally loved and admired, even among opposition supporters...Doull is a Great.
Some people have an aura Bruce Doull had the most massive aura I've ever experienced in my life I was only 8 in 1985 when I met him and he only said hello... super cool
Bruce Doull AFL legend !
I'm a Bulldogs fan ....
Lovely acknowledgement
I met Bruce at Clifton hill station
a few years ago, great bloke and gentleman, shame he never played for Collingwood LOL
Or the tigers 😂😂
This is the most words you'll ever get from Bruce Doull
That is absolutely true and I'd love to see the banter between Bruce and David Parkin!
Absolute legend, I had a no. 11 Carlton guernsey as a kid in S.A.
That's van amazing anecdote...thanks.
From my vantage point, Bruce Doull was a rather soft-spoken individual; not bombastic, but very decent and good.
Thanks for posting this video, friend.
He never did make it to play for Diamond Creek, but did own the Lower Plenty Newsagency for many years.
Not a Carlton supporter but two of my favourite players on the half-back line: K. Hunter, B. Doull.
Great comment...Doull and Hunter are both in my 18, and l always hated Carlton.
Bruce Doull what a player , Essentially played over 300 games with out ever making a mistake , A champion in the true sense of the word , And this from an Essendon supporter.
I understand what you're saying, Peter - Bruce Doull was, and still is, a true champion, and I, too, barrack Essendon.
feel free to buy a blues membership Pete and George ... you know you want to !
The greatest backman to have ever played the game. Had all the tools in the bag when it came to playing as a defender.
It's difficult to disagree...very rarely beaten.
Legend

The Flying Doormat a true ALF Lagend.
GOAT Defender bar none.
Bruce Doull was a great player and a true gentleman, much like Lou Richards.
Great player. Used to love seeing him and Bernie Quinlan play against each other. Two superstars but very fair. A Saints supporter.
I once spotted Bruce walking around by himself at Luna Park in Melbourne...I didn't say anything to him. I wanted to, but I was in shock...and awe!
The Dencorub, the bubbly, the vintage Tasty and even the EntertainMINTS.
That's not enough!
They don't make 'em like they used to 😉
This is tops.. I wasn't around in 1981 but I think I missed out on some great television! lol
Wow I love this ...Im a Collingwood Supporter and have been for a very long time And man i miss the 80s football and i remember the 81 season and how Strong the Carlton side were its sad but watching this brings tears to me as i remember watching the Grand Final with my late Father .....

Funny hearing the Wales bank mentioned before they merged with CBA and became Westpac.
A player like Bruce Doull would be very useful right now on our backline.
He be a star at any club these days. Specifically at the tigers 😂😂
Great player, great hair, grate cheese... :) those were the days!
Great player Bruce, didn't know he could talk.
He realised after winning the Norm Smith medal that you have to do interviews, so he never won one again
🤣🤣🤣
Wat
In this he's a year younger than I am now, and he looks like he could be my dad.
Also, IMO, the greatest player of all time.
+Tristan Chase Another thing, Doull and Sandy Roberts are the same age
your dad's the goat? ;)
Legend the flying doormatt.👏👏
He was pretty good all right, fearless, thoughtful, rugged and consistent. By the way, these are the real Australian accents from the past, not the cringeworthy forced over the top voices incurred often today.
You left out genuine class . He was absolutely a class player. And I'm a tigers supporter
If wasn't strutting his Australian football skills on the turf , he should have been a guitarist in a 70's rock band
Chatting it up with Bruce Doull.
Poor Doull. He looks so uncomfortable. Very shy person
Yes its interesting, the vigour on the field and the shyness off it.
I'm surprised they got him on the panel.
The Flying Doormat.
Yeah great video, my all time favorite player
I had a duffle coat with "Super cool Bruce 11 Doull" on the back of it
Those were the days.
Love the hairstyles. xD
The irony of it all I tried to watch this and there was no sound. Oh well they said he was a quietly spoken chap
Your left speaker is not working.
@@darrenjray cheers cobber
Talk the foot off a stool old Bruce!
he can speak!
A block of cheese as a gift for Bruce, too funny!
Bruce speaks!
Fav player Eva !!
He seriously doesnt want to be there does he... Good onya Bruce :D
He never was a big fan of being interviewed.
All Hale the Flying Doormat!
Top, top player.
Rare
Peter McKenna ex blue great
Mind if I link this back to my world of sport youtube page mate?
Sure, link is fine.
If he's not in the team of the century the team of the century is worthless. A superstar Backman who always beat the great Royce Hart . And that says something. And I'm a tigers supporter.
He married my mates sister 😙
Not the cheese! ;-)
Block of cheese! 😂
I wonder what shampoo Bruce uses?
He probably would have been ok looking enough with a Judd buzz, but the late 70s was a tough time to go bald. Love the way Lou hides all the products. Can't even see half of them lol
Sir Winston Lennon really? I wonder if he ever heard of it
@@mebeasensei looking at the top of his head I doubt he could have a Judd buzz
Armour-all.
Head & Shoulders
We love ya doormat.
About as shy as Dusty
Bules
The word “Champion” gets thrown around pretty loosely but Bruce I think is an “Absolute Champion” of the game.
It was a pleasure watching him play.
