U2 played on a rooftop on 7th and Main St in Los Angeles in 87 I missed it as I had to work but it was all fans and they got a couple songs in and law enforcement shut them down it was fantastic!
My favourite line in this is the one you highlighted about some people having highrises on their backs. All that talk of cracks reminded me of this gem of a line from Leonard Cohen... "There's a crack, a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in", something that Bono will occasionally snippet into 'Until The End Of The World' live. Nice reaction and banter as always, keep 'em coming!
@@anthonykladitis36 i've always thought it was a pretty solid rock album with some outstanding songs on it. That said though far from their best, still a really great album.
New York City is where it was shot. Many shots are of them performing on and under the Brooklyn Bridge. It ended up being a free concert that I, of course, missed! 😂
One thing I love about U2 is how the music matches the message and lyric really well. As you mentioned, the lyrics are very direct. It is not written in character. It not written with a lot of visual imagery as its primary tool. And everything matches. The music itself is more clean and simple. There isnt as much density and atmospherics. The Edge's solos harken back to pure rock n roll aesthetic. This simplicity aligns with the idea being born again
@@anthonykladitis36 I LOVE so many songs on this album. It was one of my top 5 when it first came out. Vertigo, All Because of You, Original of the Species, Miracle Drug, Love and Peace or Else, and City of Blinding Lights still rank among the top songs. With time, I feel that as an Album it does not have as much cohesiveness to it as GREAT U2 do. So it is similar to Songs of Experience in that regard- Some really great songs, but they don't amount to more than the sum of their parts.
@@MBeano I remember listening to this non stop when it came out and songs like miracle drug and city ... were among my favorites. however, like yourself I do not find myself going back to listen often.
I think it’s one of those songs that has different references for each verse. The first is his mother, second is his wife, third is the band and himself, and last of course is his faith.
Apologies, this is the beginning. The whole street performance ends up with the back light of the Manhattan bridge lit up. Full show is up on RUclips. It was a free concert!
Bono always references or is inspired by scripture in his lyrics and performance. He also pulls from multiple sources in culture, art, music, movies, media, magnates etc etc. "I AM" is also a cornerstone in other spiritual teachings cultures and way of being. As someone else noted in Bono's handwritten lyrics, "I AM" is capitalized.
Guys, I'm a believer, and a U2 fan, and I love what you're doing with these reviews. For future videos, below are a few suggestions of U2 songs with heavy spiritual themes. As a quick side note, if you liked the video for "All Because Of You," check out the official video for "Where The Streets Have No Name." Cheers, Brothers! "One Step Closer" (From "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb," 2004) "The First Time" (From "Zooropa," 1993) "When Love Comes To Town" (From "Rattle and Hum," 1988) "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" (sort of an obvious one, I guess) "Drowning Man" (From "War," 1983) "Tomorrow" (From "October," 1981) "Gloria" (From "October," 1981) "In God's Country" (From "The Joshua Tree," 1987) The spiritual themes of this song are very fairly vague, but the lyrics and imagery are great, plus I think this is a vastly underrated U2 song generally, both sonically and lyrically. It really sketches the feel of a location and a landscape.) And these last two are less direct spiritually, but are great songs about his relationship with his father and father-son relationships, generally : "Dirty Day" (From "Zooropa," 1993) "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" (also from "Atomic Bomb," 2004)
Great review again. This really was U2’s 3rd peak wasn’t it. They were huge for the material they were releasing at that time instead of classic material. People were going mad for the new songs in this era. All that you can’t leave behind and how to dismantle an atomic bomb were huge success for them. They did the iPod Apple thing . They are were literally on every award show you could imagine. Vertigo tour was huge , you Couldn’t get away from u2. 😃 “ I’m alive I’m being born I just arrived I’m at the door at the place I started out from and I walk back inside “ I remember in the build up to the release Bono always said that they saw this record like it was their first album again. They wanted to release a Boy type record again and took a lot of inspiration from that record in the recording of the record. That’s how I’ve always read that lyric. Even on the vertigo tour they played a lot of material from Boy on that tour. Comparing the two records I’d say they don’t sound nothing like each other 😃ones a raw post punk album and the other is an album made for radio play in my opinion anyway Great review again 👍

This video was shot all over NYC. They started in Harlem and ended up under the Brooklyn Bridge with a free surprise concert.
Wish I was there !
The free concert they gave under the Brooklyn Bridge was great, too.
As others have said, “Moment of Surrender” is another wonderful song.
I agree. We recorded a review for MOS... it'll be up soon .

AC/DC did do a music video in a back of a truck/ute, for the song 'It's a long way to the top' in the streets of Melbourne, Aus 1976

New York. They played the song and a crowd followed them to a location under the Brooklyn Bridge, where they played a concert for the people.

Definitely react to U2's *Moment of Surrender* from the album "No Line on the Horizon". Wonderful track.
