Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

I also think the underrated thing about this scene is that it shows Randy actually knowing what the heck he is doing. He is portrayed early and throughout the show as being goofy and inexperienced but every time he has to take charge over Stottlemeyer he gets stuff done. Randy calling the witness back as soon as he realizes Monk solved the case.
Not only that, this clip shows that he knows how to pull rank. Those offices were being lazy and he had to lay down the law and get their asses in that line up. Many superiors are so worried about not being liked by their employees that they let them do whatever they want. This easily could have been written as Randy roaming the halls looking for any officer who would be willing to help him. Instead Randy demanded they get their asses up and get down to that lineup. I like that he is a goofy ball but he also knows how to handle his position.
There was also that episode that he took some kids camping and when he was asked if he killed people he dodged the question, not proud of himself, but later took a gun from a criminal and aimed it at him without any hesitation. I found him pretty badass at that moment.
I love the episodes where Randy is on his own without Stottlemyre, you always see a completely different Randy. Another great example is the episode where Monk solves the murder on the plane and Randy is back at the airport helping him out.
He's a goofy guy, so it's easy to forget that he is a Lieutenant in Homicide.
Cops take exams to move up in rank. He had to qualify as a detective, get (typically) at least 2 years experience, pass the Sergeants exam, have a probationary period and THEN get 2 more years experience and have (in 2019 at least) at least 60 college credits, before having to pass the Lieutenants exam and have another probationary period!
He's also quite young (the actor was 32 at the start of Monk so I assume the character is close to that age) so his supervisors have clearly been quickly impressed by his skills and instincts!
It's Randy who lifts Monk out of his self-despair at one point after Monk is crushed by Jay Mohr's attorney by going to him to help Randy save his young friend who is facing murder.
7:38 The way Monk says “That mouse was in my pocket”, he’s practically saying “That was your fault too!”
It was said so perfectly!
I just remembered what it reminded me of! Do you remember when Monk, Sharona and the detectives went to NYC? He's giving his summation and proving that some guy killed his wife and he spots another guy who he had seen urinating in the subway. He's so outraged that he stops to berate the urinator. Sharona has to point out "that guy took a wizz in the subway, that man killed 2 people in cold blood". The first 3 seasons were by far the best. Losing Bitsy Schram was a travesty.
@@mpettway6982 even after Sharona pointed it out Monk was still relucant to handher the handcuffs haha
@mpettway6982 That scene was HILARIOUS !! But I love Natalie, and bringing on Traylor Howard was great casting. Her and Julie were a WONDERFUL addition to the show, and she was someone who understood Monk's pain at losing a spouse.
YOU'RE GOING DOWN, MR. PEE!@@mpettway6982
Lol "this is the worst lineup I've ever seen" All of them are fighting and Randy's like "number 4 could you let go of number 6?" "Number 5 get back in your, stop pushing number.."
This one & the other one in Brooklyn 99 are undoubtedly the two best lineups in the history of law enforcement
You are my fiire…

Hard to believe the guy who plays Stottlemeyer also played Buffalo Bill in "Silence of the Lambs".
This comment just gave me whiplash. 😮😅
So weird right? Buffalo Bill is the type of guy Monk and Stotylemeyer would have caught in the show, basically. Like a special two parter where they work with the FBI.
And in Wild Wild West he played General McGrath
@@Elvis-hy2flFrom the movie or the TV show?
The movie
This guy, the radio host, Dale the Whale, and the time capsule killer I feel were the most emotionally satisfying for the characters to bust sans the final episode which is a given
How about Patrick Kloster, the chess guy?
Also, Alice Cooper.
@@Dharmon1nah he was more like an intellectual challenge otherwise every wife killer would be listed
@@nicholasfarrell5981 he wasn’t the perp in that one though
The Astronaut!
I love Stottlemeyer. Hes the best underrated character evee he and Monk are so good together.
there are Tumblr accounts for monk & stottlemeyer as a team .
He not only remembered all their numbers, but also had a clear vision of who is doing what.
No wonder Randy is a policemen. He might be a bit slow sometimes, but he isn't a idiot.
That heartfelt apology that Sharkey was giving, it sounds like something that the cheating spouse would be giving to the one that they have hurt. 😆
Castiel being a very bad Angel 😂❤
Maybe it's the French Mistake
@@blueturtlekhun it cld be 🤣
Devo the mouse is so cute!🥰💜 I also love that when Stottlemeyer enters the lineup, Randy looked back as if to say “Well, this isn’t going to go well.”😅😂
Also, such a sad ending of an episode and I just feel so bad for Stottlemeyer.😢😢😢
At 3:04 RUclips recognizes Randy saying "No. 3, please let go of No. 4 and step forward" as "Like and Subscribe" XD
Wrong season, wrong episode.
This is Season 4 Episode 12 - Mr. Monk and the Captain's Marriage
Karpov planned the murder while Sharkey carried it out, just like in Mr. Monk Meets Dale the Whale. But like in the episode previous to this one (Mr. Monk Bumps His Head), the killer got hurt while he was annihilating the victim, so he had to get himself injured all over again to provide a solid alibi that would prevent the cops from connecting him to the crime. For Roger Zisk, it was crashing his car into a bee farm. For Sharkey, it was picking a fight with Stottlemeyer.
The culprit hurt themselves in a few other episodes too.
-Mr. Monk Goes to the Circus
-Mr. Monk and The Sleeping Suspect
@seangriffin2053 In the latter episode you mentioned, the killer didn't plan to be in a coma. He tried to get himself arrested, but he crashed his car in the process and spent the next three months as a vegetable in a hospital bed.
Harry trying to make Disher uncomfortable 😂😂
That mouse was in my pocket! IN MY POCKET! 😂
This is one of the scenes that show that when he needs to be randy was a good supervisor and cop
The Captain hit him with his yo-yo hand.
Interesting how the other officers in the lineup are never seen again.
4:32 Leland was about to go "Buffalo Bill" mode on him
Just love the too short line.
00:25 always cracks me.. You're too tall..
"That mouse was in my pocket. It was in my pocket!"
The mouse was in his pocket damnit. xD Love these characters and this show.
And he tossed his jacket into the incinerator! 😂
Anyone else love Harry at 0:26
The description is wrong, it says this is from season 2 but Natalie wasn't in season 2
😔~RIP Glenne Headly~😔
At 3:18 Monk is afraid of mouse and puts Natalie between him and the mouse.
The suspect and the cops enter the lineup, the witness immediately identifies the criminal, but gets interrupted and we are left to believe he meant the suspect. Only later we find out he recognise _one of the cops,_ who by the way was in the lineup by chance.
This show can really be genius.
I love monk!!❤😅
not me rewinding for stottlemeyer subtle f u to randy 🤣
Cas!!!! Ooooo, more better jacket here...
If only he walked out few minutes early, he could get away with it.
Also pick on the captain was big mistake, should have pick on fellow officer
He heard his phone conversation which gave him an easy lead opportunity.
Jailed for life or having a crappy job he could transfer from?
"Season 2"? That's obviously not right...
Oh snap, Castiel is a bad guy?
Monk: YOU WERE WEARING THOSE CLOTHES, AND KARPOV CALLED YOU “SERGEANT.”
Natalie: THAT’S RIGHT, I HEARD THAT TOO.
Monk: HOW DID HE KNOW THAT YOU WERE A “SERGEANT,” SERGEANT?
Me: DO NOT SAY THAT KARPOV GOT IT FROM DISHER, SERGEANT. AS I RECALL, DISHER ADDRESSED YOU BY NAME IN FRONT OF KARPOV, NOT BY RANK.
🤷🏻♂️
Are those CRT monitor displays just paper held together with tape?
0:35 gotta give it to Randy, that was smooth
I never knew Randy arrested Castiel...
Who?
Sucks how this ends, though.
Nah, it was overdue.
Castiel in prison, what he do? 🤣
pierce a man with a pointy weird blade😂
Why is the description mentioning the wrong episode on the official Monk RUclips page? That feels really sloppy. This isn't season 2 episode 14. Natalie is there. This episode is season 4 episode 12. I'd say it's dyslexia, but the episode description is absolutely referring back to season 2.
The episode on the description is wrong. How did you make a mistake
OMG! What is Castiel doing in San Francisco?! lol
The last time he was there he was getting help from the Charmed ones.
looks like he did not account for the witness
This episode is such a downer for me. Karen and Leland ended here.
Just always felt out of character for me. Did the actress playing Karen want to leave the show??
Karen has every right to end her relationship her husband did not believe in her. They all already tried therapy
@@nikparmar1173 that’s what I mean. Leland not believing her doesn’t fit his character IMO.
According to the official episode guide by Terry J. Erdmann and Paula M. Block, the actress, Glenn Headley, would have been fine with doing more episodes but also was OK with the character leaving the show, saying, "I feel that whatever makes the show interesting is the right thing to do."
I didn't care for the actress who played Karen. I couldn't stand her personality, I don't know if it was the writers decision, but she certainly wasn't likeable. And that's pretty odd, especially since I liked the murderer in the "Secret Santa."
"Leave" the show? She was only in like 4 episodes lol.
LOL "A lot of people live in Mendocino"
Less then a 1,000 do!
Why everyone do Randy like this?😢😢😢😢
The description got the episode wrong lol
Fascinating to see pre-Supernatural Misha Collins
I DIDN’T KNOW MISHA WAS IN MONK!?!?!?
MISHA?!

It's Castiel
Scenes like this just show that randy was a good cop and a good supervisor

Classic
Why would you chew an apple on the side that the captain hit you with and said that you knocked your tooth out that was so stupid and the shocking thing is if he would have chewed it on his right side Monk would not have figured it out sooner
Number 3😁 😁 😁
Sorry Harry your to …😅 short
And he lost two teeth
He only lost one tooth he lied about the captain knocking his tooth out so that he can cover up for murder and the guy he murdered tried to fight for his life and knocked Sharky's tooth out
