One of the aspects of this show I like is Capt. Leland Stottlemeyer. He shows his friendship to Monk in any situation.

@@Josh.WDW. No. They were working a case together when when they got the call that Trudy died. Pretty sure they also made references to it in other episodes as well.

This was a very long awaited moment for monk you got to love the the captain stopped monk from killing his wife's killer like monk stopped the captain from killing his wife's killer that's what a true friend does .

My mom and I watched it every week religiously. Never missed a show, even if we were sick.
I watched it with my mom when it was first on, now my daughter and I have Monk nights, lol. “Mom, do you want to Monk tonight?” YES!
This was a household staple for me too. Right up there with Psych.
Same. Me and my mom watched every episode and I never realized it until this finale.
I really would've loved if the gun was empty so Monk could taunt him about how he was going to spend the rest of his life in prison for what he did to Trudy, and how Judge Rickover thought Monk was obsessed with wanting to kill him so he never doubted the gun wasn't loaded. It would've been so satisfying seeing Judge Rickover pull the trigger and he just hears the click and looks at the gun in shock.
It would have been good, but it also would have spoiled the final mystery: what he meant when he said "You take care of her."
I wish you'd been one of the writers. Yours is a much more satisfying conclusion to the story (and it flows better with Monk's brand of genius).
Monk saying "I'm the judge" was badass lol
That judge really made a mistake poisoning Monk, at that point he had nothing to lose, he says "are you going to kill a federal judge?" but really what could anyone who is dying lose at that point?

He sends the Cops away, who were pointing their guns at Monk, so that they were alone.

What kind of idiot would kill Adrian Monk's wife? He's already the best detective in the world, and you're gonna make yourself guilty of something so important to him you know he'll obsess over it and never rest till he solves it?
Its crazy how a lot of people watched this with there mom she showed me monk and once I was hooked she bought me a complete season on DVD

Easy way out. Plus, I am sure you know what it is like for cops, lawyers, and judges in prison, being locked up with the very same people that they themselves put in there. It will not end well for them. 🤷♂️

I have no problem with scumbags offing themselves. Probably the most selfless act they’ve ever done. I know where they’re going, and they’ll regret getting there sooner.

What is with this title? At the start of the series, Trudy had been dead for four years, this is the end of season eight, that’s only 12-13 years, not 2 decades.

There was so much going on in this scene lol
Corrupt judge that killed someone and buried her in his own backyard and then killed a detective's wife.
Detective drugs a cop, steals his gun, essentially kidnapping a judge to dig a hole. Which if the body was not found, could be seen as him making the judge dig his own grave.
Then the 2 cops racing through the city in the pouring rain, no lights, no sirens. Reckless driving, driving on the side walk, Hit and run, negligent discharge of a firearm, brandishing and probably a few more things haha

“Nobody cares about affairs anymore.” Since when? Wasn’t there several episodes where some woman was killed because of an affair.
You may be thinking of "Mr. Monk and the Astronaut". If so, the affair was part of it, but the bigger issue was that the mistress was also planning to reveal that the astronaut beat her to the extent that she had to be hospitalized, and since he was going to run for Senate, he couldn't risk her revealing that.
And I think in general, these men killed them because if the affair went out, they'd lose access to their wives' money.
dont remember all, but i think at least 3 cases, were the culprid tried to hide an affair by either killing the lover or the one being cheated on
What they mean is, as a political scandal, nobody cares about affairs anymore. Not that an individual person wouldn't care about an affair.
It was cultural commentary not analytics on crime statistics.

Thats lame, who will beleive that Monk didnt pull the trigger and his two best friends just gave the testimony that the judge did a suicide?
You can see the other two cops in the background still. Plus, Balistics can tell how far the gun was when it was shot, and the person holding a gun when it fires has residue on their hands.
The angle of the shot and effect from a close range shot would be evident and line up with their statements he shot himself

I actually didn't really like this ending because he would've solved this mystery actually pretty quickly if he just would've opened his present from Trudy,
I think it's perfect. If he had just tried to move on, even a little, he would've found the evidence. It would have felt more contrived if something had suddenly changed that let him solve the mystery directly. But instead, something changed that let him make a little more progress.
i feel is actually very well done, the present is there in a bunch of episodes, if you go back to them knowing what you know is cool to see it there in monk's hands. these detective stories that are episodic usually need a hook, and in monk, the hook is trudy's case. the hook usually is there just as a motivator for the character, and usually by the series end the writers have to solve it and isnt usually very good. in monk they actually planned for it here and there and by the end they actually delivered a story, i mean, is not the best solve of the series, but is a good conclusion to the series and the hook-case

He was. Quit, got re hired, quit again.
In season 3 episode 4 mr. monk gets fired. He mention he need to regain his detective license. So this is how’s his been working as a consultant to SFPD. After he was discharged. He’s been a licensed detective after he lost he’s badge.
kinda funny how the girft that he does open has all the answer about his wifes death.
For 12 year's all he had to do was open that little box..
