Everyone should do themselves a favor and emulate the very first Sakura Wars on Saturn. It's a brilliant masterpiece that excellently brings the positive qualities of the 1920s to the best aspects of 90s anime. An ideal and uplifting story!!!

Vilains want Japan back to shogunate, because Tenkai opose to the progressive modernization (a one of main villains, who is not even in a anime). For do that, they want summon old castle of Edo, and rule of Teito as a shogun (he want ,,recreate'' Tokugawa Shogunate). The Flower Division must ofcourse stop him.
The melody from 0:35 to 0:42 and the chorus sound so familiar....especially the melody from 1:02 - 1:10....it sounds like something in a traditional Japanese enka song (which would kind of fit the setting)....has anyone heard it in a similiar song?
WingsTM this song is inspired from japanese military empire song. I forgot the title but after japan lose, there's many anime use the same tone like this in 60's and 70's. This version is more catchy and faster than the original version.
Arabic version is censored asf (due to arabic culture barrier). They removed half of scenes from japanese version. I recommend watching original version without censorship. But arabic opening is also great.
what i liked about sakura taisen is that its a clean anime! its true have girls and stuff but its not awkward with bouncing boobs and perverted wannabe romantic situation..

the anime is based on a Japanese stratagy game series of the same name, only the 5th game got localized in English, Game 1 and 2 are about the Japanese group, 3 and 4 involve Ogami joining a another group in France and the 5th one is about an american group

The old schools better since it doesn't have that 3d cgi bullshit that doesn't bring anything to the anime experience only ones that got it right were zoids and most mech animes.

I watched this anime in Arabic as a child, and I love the Arabic version, and the original version is also beautiful 😍✨
