In episode of sound architect I am going to show you how to write melodies and harmonies for your original song and how to record vocals in a way that allows you to come up with additional parts for whatever it is you're singing. This is the way I do it as a self taught musician and producer and it doesn't require you to know the super technical side of #musictheory however you do at least need to know the basics of scales, harmonics, chords, and what key you're in. #musicproduction

Deep dive! Thank you bro!! This is super helpful. I would really love a video that shows building in sort of the opposite direction-starting with a lyrical melody and building the music around it. I have a ton of song ideas on my phone that are just me singing some lyrics in a certain melody, and I don’t know how to take them make them complete songs with drums, baseline, lead melody, etc.
I do that sort of thing all the time in my livestreams. But can try to make a video on it.

Like it’s essential if you want to take your voice to the next level I understood the video. Harmonies would be 1 3 5 and of you want to make it fuller u can go outside the scale correct ? To have more harmony options ?
It definitely does help to know music theory whether thats by ear or written. And yes I go outside of the scale all the time. There are so many different types of chords from the typical 3 part harmonies to suspended, diminished, augmented. All kinds of stuff.

I often come up with melodies and lyrics easily in my head, and I even sing/rap them. What do I need to do next? The goal is to build a simple beat and start completing songs. (I played violin for 8 years so I have some knowledge of notes, scales, ect, and I have a small but full in house studio and I use GarageBand)
You’re wanting to know what to do next in terms of making the music or recording the vocals? Either way the next step is to just record it. Once you have the idea, create it.

I was hoping you could give your opinion on something. I'm a trained Singer and I've been in shows for years (here and there when I get em in and outta agency) but I wanna perform my own songs. I've started 35 songs (approx) and have finished the final drafting of the lyrics to 15 and I'm quite pleased with what I've been coming up up. I'm working on lyrics, I got the rhythms clear and with a good flow but to my disadvantage I'm not a Musician nor is my ability to read sheet music anything past Key and Range.
I'm stronger as a writer and a singer, that's where y strengths lie. Though I struggle when I've attempted (on and off) to play guitar (mainly acoustic). It's just not my forte and I'll keep at it but the skill level isn't catching up anytime soon.
So with all of that ranting and raving being context, I wanted to ask your opinion on Whether you think it's a more professional to pitch my lyrics and rhythms to a musician/composer (to put together a demo) and commission them to help workshop and commission the melodies/instrumentals?
Or Should I just lead with the lyrics, rhythm and with simple intrumental
Because I can just image; passing on A Demo recording of just Lyrics in Acapella wouldn't be enough for an ideal submission (to either my agency or a Record Label)... Anyway enough of my ranting and raving. Just had a moment and thought I'd get your point of view. :)

RUclips is the most vast resource of free tutorials there is on the planet. Something more indepth you may want to look into is skill share courses or Udemy. You should do whatever works best for you. Some like in person, some like online. Some don't like either.

Yep I knew someone would find the correlation! I got those classic r&b roots so that style and those progressions heavily influenced my style of play. All My Life was one of the first legit songs I learned how to play lol. And yes I produce for anyone with the budget as it is my job!

Yea if you’re asking if you need to be a keyboardist in order to come up with melodies then definitely not. There’s singers all over the world and in the industry who can’t play an instrument to save their lives but come up with harmonies all the time. It’s just a matter of understanding intervals, scales. What sounds good and matches. Knowing how to play helps.
