First of all. Thank you for this video, you brought up actually some things I had missed. Specially about Idiot, I liked him as witty relief but you brought up his big brain for me. As for next: Could you go for the underrrated Darksiders series. Namingly War and Death as well as fury. I dare say these two characters were closest thing to Legacy of Kain series we have had in a long time.
I really liked the Aurora's Crew. They felt like true brothers and I actually enjoyed listening to them whenever they had something to say. Duke's story about how he froze in fear at Volga and then broke his plate carrier with a bolt was pretty funny. I'm glad I saved them all on my first playthrough because their words to our dying Artyom were really touching. They truly cared for him
@@zarathustra6116 Yeah, Damir is the trickier one. I think the only way to get him to stay with the crew is freeing the slaves at the two broken down ships and completing the "Get water" and last mission without getting spotted or attacking the slaves
@@zarathustra6116 Well, they don't carry any firearms and will actually talk to you if spotted. Good thing is that they don't give away your position, they just get scared, so it's easier to sneak into enemy's territory without actually being spotted
I get it why he calls himself an idiot, because he constantly talks about philosophy and various of other stuff around people who generally focus more on survival then seeing the bigger picture on stuff. So he constantly has to remind himself that they don’t think like he does.🤔🐱
It's because he's a fan of Fyodor Dostoevsky, who's novel "The Idiot" is about a character that many people mistake for an Idiot but in reality are underestimating him greatly.
my only issue with metro's characters is that there is so little, i wish there were more conversations with all these characters in the field and on the train
yea, i wish we could choose a volunteer to come with us, like Duke on the volga, damir in the caspian, and at last alyosha in the taiga. I would choose Duke all day, hes my 1# favourite
In a couple of months, there will be AI like ChatGPT to have potentially endless conversations with NPCs in these games. That will be amazing, or so I think.
The Idiot, by Dostoevsky, is a Russian book originally published across several issues of The Russian Messenger from 1868 to 69. I actually have a copy and tried to give it a read. To be completely honest, not really my style of writing. But the character Idiot in Metro is very reminiscent (and I believe based on) the main character of The Idiot. The book also is very centered around death, violence, and the impacts of those on the soul, pretty similar to Metro as well.
Yes and they even say so during Exodus, the crew is talking about nicknames after the Volga chapter, to which they ask Idiot why he would call himself that, and Sam pipes up "because he's a fan of Chekov" Either by mistake or, as it seems, on purpose to rile Idiot up by pretending to be ignorant. In any case, it's a clever self referential
Had no idea of this game let alone the series of Metro, until my son got the game for me to play. I played them all, too my surprise I really love the all characters!!! A good story and as the games came out, the play got even better. I truly felt bad even sad when Col. Miller died, saving Artyom from certain death...... Keep up the good work WiseFish.
Another little bit of info on Idiot is that he is actually the second-in-command of the Aurora and Miller, and after the Colonel's death he is the one to appoint Artyom as the new leader of the Aurora crew and the Spartan Order.
Wonderful video with good analasys. Sad is that there are few informations about Nastya and Kyrill tho.. Also, there has to be a sequel to exodus! I loved this whole concept, but a sequel with open world and more metro parts would be THAT great... And I would like to see more lore about this game, I am not sure about what tho..
They did announce that another installment is in the works, but that was before the Russian invasion so they are going to be significantly delayed at the least.
Idiot might've taken the name being an "idiot savant", hyper analytical abilities are pretty rare and he seems to be possessed of them. Great descriptions of all the Aurora Crew character! Well played!
I wonder if there is a spin off book that finishes or continues Sam's story. If so I really want a game about it after I played and finished Sam's story DLC
He self titled himself Idiot because of Dostoevsky's "The Idiot" and this is more or less confirmed when on the way to Yamantau, the boys ask him why he is called Idiot and Sam (mistakenly or feigning ignorance to poke fun) says it is because Idiot is a fan of Chekov, to which Idiot replies "Ah yes Chekov as well but not in this case" or something to that effect. Why would he call himself this you may wonder? "The title is an ironic reference to the central character of the novel, Prince Lev Nikolayevich Myshkin, a young man whose goodness, open-hearted simplicity and guilelessness lead many of the more worldly characters he encounters to mistakenly assume that he lacks intelligence and insight." "In truth he is highly intelligent, self-aware, intuitive and empathic. He is someone who has thought deeply about human nature, morality and spirituality, and is capable of expressing those thoughts with great clarity." It's a clever name both referentially and in-universe, because it has the same ironic effect in-universe that the original novel in real life nods to in its title.
I like Last Light & 2033 a lot more than Exodus but i still appreciated exodus. I really just prefer the other games compared to the approach to a open world type style.
I do hope in the sequel for exodus we see more characters joining artyom and his Spartan friends 😍 and we get a chance to have merchants and crafting so if you don't have enough materials to craft ammo you can buy ammo and medkits just my idea
Probably as American agression does not stop. They could have stopped Ukraine from genociding ethnic Russians and stop the spread of Nazism in there country but they did nothing so Russia has to stomp there ass so another Nazi Germany doesn't rise and does more damage
Fish you do such a great job. I’m a huge gamer and I genuinely can’t find a story more engaging and emotionally pulling other than this game. And you do a phenomenal job breaking down all the lore bro. If I was a millionaire I’d donate you thousands.
Please keep making metro lore videos!!! Man you are like one of the only people making consistent new videos for metro so i look to you for my metro satisfaction!! Keep making your videos man you’re awesome
You left out a rather insightful character fact about Tokarev. He’s in love with Anna, and suffers silently because she chose Artyom over him. It was a one sided love that Artyom even comments on in his diary.
I feel like Duke is kind of like the audience. Total Artyom fanboy, and willing to do all the same heroic things Artyom does without hesitation. Just hopefully he doesn't have a crush on Anya like the rest of us 🤣🤣
The excellent design of spaces and environments in the world are what have drawn me into the world most of all, but the story is also very good I think.
When I first played the game, I wasnt very skilled in english, and I thought that Idiot is really an idiot, and I couldnt comprehend his character. But now, after replaying the game again, I found out that he has extremely similar character to me. Im no Artiom-like superhero, Im just a combination of Idiot and Tokarev. But honestly, I really hope that we get some more information about him. The best way would be a character driven strategy game, where guys like Tokarev and Idiot would be the backbone of progress.
I just think that you forgot Kirill, the only survivor of Novosibirsk. He survived alone for monthd and helped both Artyom and Miller despite his young age. And especially Miller died still trying to teach Kirill how to drive the truck so he could save Artyom and himself. Considering what for a good man his father, the Colonel of Novosibirsk was, only future Metro titles can show how much Kirill can step into his fathers Footsteps. But he definitely shows much potential. Maybe he will prove to be the future of the Spartan Rangers, because even more than Duke, he is part of the Generation that still are children by the time of 2035. A Generation of which most never before saw the sun and moon cause they were born and raised in a hole, deep in the ground, but maybe the Generation that will not only survive in the world against the will of the Gouvernment and Metro itself, but will thrive in the new world Artyom and the rest of the Crew of the Aurora found for them.
I dont think so? Artyom did said in the good ending that Khan just, disappeared, Khan is the type of man that is hard to track. Its like he is the personification of the Metro itself. That or he is just a homeless man before the war and he already knew the secrets of the Moscow Metro
Hope you guys all enjoyed the video once again! Do let me know what else you’d like to see!
I would love to see a video on the electrical anomaly in Metro
What happened to you’re discord
I always enjoy your videos♥️

@@zarathustra6116 Yeah, Damir is the trickier one. I think the only way to get him to stay with the crew is freeing the slaves at the two broken down ships and completing the "Get water" and last mission without getting spotted or attacking the slaves
@@nexus6mc2182 That's just it, I do all that and to my knowledge don't kill any slaves but it's hard to distinguish them from the slavers.

Metro is such a well written and deep story, I love learning the lore about the characters and locations

I actually see Damir staying with his people as the good ending of the Caspian Sea.
That's what happened for me and I still got the good ending, so it works quite well that way
Love your cover of metro series, especially since you use both books and games, great video
Tokoravs’ sand comment HAS to be a star wars reference to Anakin
Oh it is lol it’s a direct quote

Fun fact in the Russian dub of the game melnik(miller) calls idiot by his real name which is Sergei
Thanks for this comprehensive and well produced video! Metro is a super interesting lore universe!

It's based on the Russian novel "The Idiot" by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Bro I just bought Metro 2033 and Last Light for the Switch, sadly there's no Exodus but still very nice.
Such a great game. I haven't replayed since the newest edition came out but it might be about time. Great vid!
Thanks for posting today! Is my birthday to day and I love the metro series!!!
Happy birthday my dude hope you have a good one!!

I miss playing metro exodus, it sucks my ps4 got corrupted twice so i had to get rid of it. As always great video wisefish.
that is a true shame. im sorry to hear that, bud. i hope you can find a way to play this awesome game again.

I think sam and duke are from 2033 and the others are from the beginning of last light 🤔
I love this game and all of it's characters! I hope the aurora crew comes back for a sequel to Exodus. They felt so alive and individual
My favorite is the rookie
less adverts ... like every five mins in a 20 min video ... totally ruins the experience
Playing exodus always feel like your missing someone the man himself ulman wish he didn’t die in last light
Nice

by the time we’re getting ps5 and a sequel of metro 4
but we’ll see
Good to see more of the Interesting Metro Characters
