About the Gallery of Magick books, I always found very suspicious that, instead of quickly describing the meaning of the Hebrew words they use, they go to great lengths, which include a whole chapter, to explain why they don't do it. A brief explanation would have saved them some pages.
This is one for the wish list. As much use as I've made of GoM materials, their refusal to get into theory or discuss their sources is a source of major frustration for those of us who want to know why something is done a particular way.
Both Swart and Gallery of Magick get their ideas from the Shorshei Ha-Shemot. This is referenced several times amongst their corpus of books. You can buy a very expensive English version, or several Herbrew editions.
Swart is a great source for "authentic" Kabbalah, i.e. material based almost solely on Jewish sources. He also has published one work by his late teacher William G. Grey, called Western Inner Workings. I have all these texts and have read all but the last two. The first book, in my opinion, is a must read for anyone wanting to start down a true practical Kabbalaistic path, versus something like hermetic kabbalah. But even those people would benefit from the first book. He draws from lots of ancient source texts and explains them in a very easy to understand way. He also clarifies some origins and meanings of texts that are commonly disputed amongst both both Orthodox and non-Orthodox thinkers. He also despises elitism that runs rampant in the world of Kabbalah. He is a true mensch.
I discovered Jacobus Swart's book series doing research on Yohach and Kalach. I stumbled upon Jacobus Swart's blog, and then his books. My very thoughtful wife bought the entire 7 volume set of books for me for my birthday. I have never read a more scholarly set of books. I love them!
Me I want to know where the gallery of magick got their sources to the divine name EE-YAH-ZAH-REE-RAWZ in the Archangels of magick to alter the consciousness.
Yes, I recall you mentioning Jacobus G. Swart before, Denis, and ever since I've been intrigued to learn more about his work, which I've never heard of before. So I very much welcome your great assessment of the quality of this book, and look forward to more wonderful reviews like this one on this author. Cheers!🎉
Regarding the names you are looking for I found them in a book called dictionary of angels by Gustave Davidson ( very gnostic angel book ) . With very little description though so I’m probably no help and I’m admittedly a bit late this video is like a year and a half old now but just thought I’d mention
You should add more Amazon links, like Netherlands, Germany and more… I have been buying a lot of the books that you recommend but since I live in the Netherlands I have to go directly to the app or google to buy them.
Oh, dear Fish! I'm absolutely thankful for all your recommendations (even after spending a thousand dollars or so 🤣) you are really on point most of the times! Thanks for all your work. Your channel is a lovely place and it makes me want to hug you haha 😂 Greetings from Mexico City, dear friend! 🌞
this book and the next in the series are wonderful reference books, if you do anything with Kabbalah :D the first volume is a training manual, a lot of its techniques are basically the same as in Liber Null, and Initiation Into Hermetics, although with a Kabbalistic flavour, and stuff like chanting permutations of the Tetragrammaton, like in Abraham Abulafia's ecstatic Kabbalah; good choice and nice video! :D
Swart's (and his teacher's, William G. Gray's) system is still Hermetic Qabalah to some extent, but expanded with more Jewish Kabbalah, if you're into things like that, Gary Jaron's books on assigning the letters on the paths might also be interesting to you, and of course David Chaim Smith's contemplative Kabbalah too also, if you look for an interesting, Perennial/gnostic path, In Search of the Miraculous by P.D. Ouspensky is good
I’m doing some research and I agree with one the comments, GoM most likely got inspired by shorshei ha shemot, the are 5 books that not available online. I also believe that Jacobous G was also inspired by Moshe Zacuto.
Thanks for mentioning that it's POD. It's a very interesting looking book and I clicked through your amazon link and all the other books from the author made my Desire To Have All The Things squirm pretty hard. Nice to know I don't have to FOMO myself into oblivion lol. Still probably going to get this one, I love this sort of detailed, technical kabalistic stuff.
I first came across Swart's books when I was researching Psalm Magick (the second book in the Psalm series came out a few months ago). I have nearly all these Shadow Tree Series books now. They're THAT good. Not for beginners though . . .
Thanks for sharing i see he has few other very good books and alot of the information he shares is from old Hebrew text fist time shared in English etc. Definitely looking forward to getting some of his work's and seeing more of your reviews on his other books of magic!
You should use an affiliate link for that plastic cover you’re using for the paperback! I wasn’t aware of those covers, I had only used hardcover versions. Finally what’s your opinion on Parker publishing (NAP etc)?
Hello, great review. I have a question, would it be possible to make a video about parasitic beings? I'm a bit uncomfortable asking this, but I don't really know where to find a reliable source on this topic, so I just decided to ask you. I like your channel very much and can identify pretty well with your statements and wish you and your channel only the best. your channel really helped me to take the last step to magic because I was unsure if that's okay at all.
Further to FF and Genghis, look at The Apprentice course, which is on the Quareia website in PDF form, available free - go to model one: Protection Magic. I can't remember if it was Glitch Bottle or Reddit, but one of Josephine's appearances in the last few months, but she advised a weekly ritual bath (instructions in model one) for a period of time - a few months I think. See 'Purification' - a card in her new deck, also available free on Quareia in PDF form, for a bit more insight into the process.
Ana Bekoach, The 72 names of God, Shimmush Tehillim are really powerful so are the Hebrew letters. Kabbalistic knowledge is ancient and useful. In my search I found this book online but yet to get a copy. Is this the only book for Practical Kabbalah or are there any other authors? Thank you for the review.
Would it be possible to do something on the historical, spiritual and magickal beliefs and uses of stones, gems and especially crystals, across cultures, please? I’m always a bit suspicious about New Age beliefs on the properties of crystals as I have never been able to identify their sources. I know lapidary books go back to the 1600s and there are ancient Indian practices of wearing certain gems to mitigate karma. Aside from that, I can’t find anything. Also, my understanding is that Western Occult traditions view crystals more as containers for certain specific energies or even spirits while New Agers see them as something good just to have around. I wonder if by simply having them around they could result in unwanted effects. Lastly, in occultic terms, is salt considered a crystal? Is that why it can be blessed or ‘programmed’? Thank you
Just some plastic covers I bought from a local online market. Google "plastic book cover" followed by the height of the book and you'll find what you need 🙏
Foolish Fish, thanks for doing what you do, it's a breath of fresh air for me. I'm now holding my own copy of this lovely book and am hoping you could please share where you got the nice plastic book cover from? i'd like to protect this one for posterity as i think i'll be thumbing through it for years to come. thanks!

I know this is probably a hard question to answer as you haven't read the first book but although the second can be read in it's own do you get the impression that reading the books in order would be more beneficial? In other words do you feel there are things covered in book two that were possibly explained thoroughly in the other book? Again hard question to answer I'm just wondering whether to get the other one first or just drive into this one
Check out David Nagy's answer a little higher up - it might help you get an idea of what the first book contains. As I say, the strength of this book has absolutely persuaded me to get the first one.

As Genghis Galahad has mentioned, Josephine McCarthy is the authority on parasites, and her Exorcist's Handbook is probably where you'll find answers.
