This ice-o-matic ice machine kept shutting off. The fan was not working. The machine would over heat and shut off. There was a flashing red light in the front. After troubleshooting it and talk to iceomatic tech support I found the the fan cycle switch was not working properly. I fixed this iceomatic ice machine by bypassing the fan cycle switch.

piggyback terminals are awesome, didnt realize they are so cheap. Deff gonna get some for those ECM rescue motors with multiple directions! only thing i would have done differently would be to just wago or wire nut those together instead. Otherwise ive done the same thing on smaller U/c style icemakers with the same issue! I wire the CFM to the water pump since during harvest the smaller units dont use water assisted harvest, and you can do a quick fix that will be pretty reliable for the long run assume ambi temp is climate controlled
Using the wire nut is definitely one of my go to moves. I have the Piggyback so I might as well use it.

Bypassing the switch is a good way to fix the machine. The fan does need to cycle on/off in cold temperatures so that the high side pressure doesn’t fall too low.
Looking to purchase a new 800-1,000lb ice machine, would you recommend an ice o Matic ? If not what other brands? Thanks, great videos!
If I were purchasing a new ice machine I would go with either Manitowoc or Hoshizaki.

Do any ice machines have variable speed fan motor controls?
I’ve seen some look slow. I never thought the cycle switch could slugging.
Im not sure. I know the iceomatic fans start off slow and pick up speed as they run.

I know true has ecm that runs at low and high speed depending on pressure I believe ice o matic is the same.

What do you do for the units that use R404 if something like a compressor needs to be replaced? Retrofit or 100 bucks a Lb 404?
I don’t think 404 is a $100 bucks a pound.
I'd rather work on an Avantco ice machine than work on a crap-o-matic. I've had customers have evap plates separate after only 2 years.
Ice-O-Matic has had some struggles recently. Ive seen the same thing unfortunately. They keep making upgrades to the machines and I think they are headed in the right direction.
