Jumper man new subscriber here, hvac did a little bit of walk in coolers and freezers, but never got into ice machines, i love your process of elimination and common sense, using your hands and eyes and ears to troubleshoot is something newer techs dont apply now days. Best detailed video and looking forward to learn from you, yes after 20 years ,love this trade, thanks so much for the effort and keep them coming
Thank you for subscribing and thank you for the thoughtful comment. Much appreciated 🙏 Love this trade also. It's great. Stay tuned for new videos every week🔧⚡️
Wow ok power suppy is always step one. I do not like going behind other techs, but some times i was hired to go behind all the techs in the company and the messes i would find was unreal. I have mad respect for you. thank you for reminding me how its done.
When you start worrying about time, you are slipping up. You just charge for it. Not doing preventive maintenance has consequences. You run through a cycle following the sequence of op and watching the dumps, purging the sump, etc.
I will never understand why hoshiaki has the reputation it does when they're a pain to work on, a pain to PM, and every unit I've seen has constant issues.
sheesh! That was some show! I get those idiosyncracies all the time. Right now working on a Hosh where I can't get the power to go on after someone tinkered with the caps also. Good detective work with the meter JMT! Thanks for sharing! I wish I coulda seen how you wired the caps. I am thinking about the CB being replaced bc nothing comes on with the one I'm working on Thanks!
What threw that person off is that the water pump was coming on but the compressor wasn’t assumed the compressor or compressor components were bad . Guess what all HOSHIZAKI water pumps are 115v not 208/230v that’s the purpose of having a NEUTRAL at the incoming voltage 😁😬. Good fix JMT 😃
Man that was some great troubleshooting. Can't wait till i get nice with the meter like that. This video may have stepped my game up. With those baffles, the worker take them out so they can get ice out faster. Not knowing they are costing the company money. I usually pop out the inspection window to drill them in from the inside. The baffle is thick guage so you make your holes outside then install it and put the screws in the plastic.
run and start should equal the common. Draw a circle and 3 dots to represent the comp terminals. write the ohms between each pin and the number Opp is the resistance for each winding, common should be the sum of run and start windings.
I have a 6 year old Km-201bah that I maintain well. Sometimes it'll beep once and sometimes 3 times, so I reset it and it'll work for several days. I had it checked out and everything checked out okay. He said it could be a relay on the control board. It's in my garage and has been doing this for a little over a year. Could it be air circulation in my garage? Would putting a small portable air conditioner or dehumidifier close to it make a difference or replace the control board?
So one leg of 208 volts wasnt passing thru the two pole switch? If so how was small gauge jumper able to carry the power across the bad switch without overheating?
Just... insane here. When a business does not properly repair the device but 'hodgepodges' it together like this, I would advise the person employing me to fix it to contact the previous company and get on their case about it, giving them the proper video documentation so they can seek legal help.
The piece in the front you’re referring to is called the “snout”. The units over the bin are called head units and the remote condensers are outside/on the roof
Float switch controls beginning of harvest. Freezer timer max is 45-60 depending on what unit came set for from factory. These units are 45 minutes. 8/10 3 beeps is a lack of water from dirty filters or dirty machine or plugged water filters. 1/10 times low on charge and 1/10 bad water inlet valve or clogged inlet valve not letting enough water into sump. These units have a factory set 1 minute fill time so if sumo isn’t at least 3/4 the way full after 1 minute check water inlet valve. If compressor starts before 1 minute and sump hasn’t filed all the way it’s your float switch
Ice machines are the most complicated systems most of find in commercial refrigeration. Lots of rabbit holes to go down. Each manufactures has their own proprietary systems then all the different manufactures. Customers don't appreciate what we have to know.
Partstown is my go to! over 3000 machines, how we supposed to know 'em all. Then, the customers says, Parts? we need to buy (expensive) parts? go figure!
Bro any suggestions to why a maintvoc ice machine stops making ice… it automatically turns off then we have to manually switch it back on to “making ice” then it turns back to off mode… any solutions?? Much appreciated
I wonder if the last guy left the switch like that because he found there was no 208 and he probably told them to get a electrician to replace the switch
Never assume that you have a good voltage... I had been troubleshooting machines, with welds fails.... and it was not correct voltage at the transformers or income... if yoy have a machine with 24DC, 24AC and 220V or 400V please check all the voltaje and fuses... the easy part first!!
I had a customer who was an engineer. He would attempt to repair himself then call me. I would have to put everything back together just so I could start diagnosing. Told him he was costing multipul hours on each call from me.
@@sherwinalvarez7365 crazy it gets by any inspection, cant imagine installine it there either. no amount of money could get me to do this work in that place
I own a KM-201BAH, which is a great machine, but it's too small and need to upgrade. I need a machine and a storage bin that will hold between 300-400 pounds of ice. I know Hoshizaki has a stainless steel evaporator, but what quality machine would you reccomend that will last and is easy to maintain? I use it for my mobile hot dog trailer business. Thanks.
if i had a wiring schematic in front of me I wouldn't be saying redundant things like "where does this go to?" "ima use this side as reference" "hopefully it doesn't blow up" to me it seems like you need way more experience on these units.
If you ain't testing your guessing
That’s what my boss tells his guys all the time!! Guessing can cost time and money, and maybe your life is it involves electrical

That's the one things that gets me is time, and you're so right.
Some people want a life instead of more overtime money that the federal government steals anyway.
Awesome repair video. James, you are very knowledgeable. I learned a lot. Love your commentary!
Interesting outcome. You're correct, ice machines can be tedious especially if haven't worked on them.
It was. Thank you! They definitely are. Stay tuned for new videos every week🔧⚡️

the video title says hoshizaki ice machine but the thumbnail picture is a manitowoc machine 😂
Great job. It’s all about the troubleshooting!

Great video!!!!!
When I was in QA we coined the term at our company "If it's not testable it's detestable".

Spot on
Ice machines are a plumbing fixture that uses refrigeration like water coolers.

Dump valve seal also gets dirty sometimes which allows a little bit of water to leak out the drain
this guy doesn't fully know what he is doing.

Great Video. Good Job. Nice Work. Thank you for sharing. Is that 3 phase switch ?
No there are only two power legs
I love you❤
They don't want to pay for perfection. Try to save couple of bucks. Guess what it just cost them more money.

id0906a-261 harvest sequence when does water go over evap right away when turned on?
Nice troubleshooting
Would recommend making a platform to stand on so you're not standing on the wet floor and possibly getting shocked really bad otherwise great video
A bad two pole switch, unbelievable!
I wonder if the last guy left the switch like that because he found there was no 208 and he probably told them to get a electrician to replace the switch
Привет какой мультиметр посоветуешь?
Somebody took capacitors to replace them and never returned.
To me it looks like you did everything correctly 😂
Two add up to the one.
Gotta pull the label marker and label the switch with the breaker panel and unit 1 or 2 lol
Building maintenance just cost them money that didn’t need to be spent, maybe in time but not at this money….😅
10:04 Mission accomplished
Didn't say if you fixed the water leak issue

Complain once and move on. No reason to keep complaining.
