As a teacher, I’ve come across situations similar to this. Students will always figure out a way to outsmart the teacher lol it makes me know who are the clever ones.
I remember I had Trig my Senior year. I don't remember exactly what equations we were doing but my brain wasn't comprehending the "right way" to do it but I somehow figured out a different, simpler way to do it and still got the correct answer, every single time. I remember the teacher coming around to help or see how people were doing and she looked at my work puzzled. She asked how I was coming up with the right answer, and I showed her. She put another equation down, and I did it my way for her, and my answer was right again. She was baffled and said she had never seen anyone do it that way, and that she understood that people's minds worked differently so she wasn't going to mark it wrong as long as I got the right answer. She also bailed me out of a jam another time. There was another equation style we did that I just did not grasp at all. My mind would not wrap around it. She literally spent an entire period trying to help me one day and she after seeing my struggles simply told me that she would be putting a "coupon" in the school paper to get rid of your lowest test score, and to make sure I got a paper so I could turn it in to her. Good thing I did because I got a 32 on the test.
I'll put a second reply in its own new reply to keep things from getting too long. It was actually my junior year and I was in Applied Chemistry. Applied Chem was basically base Chem, under Chem/Lab. I really disliked Science and was going to make it as easy on myself as possible. Anyway we weer studying temperature readings and converting Fahrenheit to Celsius and vice versa. As most know the formulas are basic and if you are any good at math its not hard to do. We had a test that was literally just conversions of F to C and C to F. We were only allowed to use basic calculators. She handed the test out and I was done in 10 minutes. I approached the front of the room to hand it in and she looked at me puzzled. She asked if I needed something and I told her I was done. There was murmuring from the class as she still looked puzzled, but asked if I answered everything. I told her I did. She asked to see my calculator, so I walked back to my desk to grab it and show it to her. She still looked puzzled/concerned at this point. She asked how I thought I did and I did fine, and it was easy. She asked if I cared if she graded it right away, and I told her to go ahead. A few minutes later, no one else had handed their test in still. She looks up and says I got a 100. She actually excused me for the rest of the period because she had nothing else for us. I guess this was a mixture of cleverness and intelligence, but I still smirk about it to this day when I think about it.
Honestly yeah I'd be fine with that. Same principle. Write a well written essay about them. Hell if I were an English teacher I might just assign a character analysis paper where they have to do a character analysis of a classmate of their choosing

cory in the early seasons was classic - i’m currently rewatching the entire show and am on the final season - while it’s still fun, he has become my least favorite character on the show (and shawn has become my favorite) but when he was a kid he was absolutely hysterical - in the later seasons he’s just an immature, selfish ball of neurosis who creates 100% of his own problems
shawn was kinda lame early on, just used as comic relief, but as the seasons progress he grows an incredible amount as a character and has to deal with the most personal difficulties by a million miles and he does a really good job at it
Shawn was incredibly lame at the end of the show. A lot of the characters went downhill. Cory and Topanga became more of a farce that were way over the top. And Shawn was a farcry from the character the show established early on. He went from someone with an edge to a total softy.
It is a good thing Cory pulled this on Turner instead of Feeny. I think Mr. Feeny knows Cory well enough to figure it out and not let him get away with it.

Friendship: Cory & Shawn > Riley & Maya. Unlike Riley and Maya who’s friendship has been on the brink of collapse at times both Cory and Shawn have managed to keep their despite their differences.
Am I the only one who realized that the whole thing was a con? Think about it, they were both trying to get out of writing a biography on boring people, so Cory purposefully initiated the plan by commenting on how fake Topanga's choice is (honestly, it wouldn't have mattered who she chose, he would have gone on the same spiel and then say he was doing his report on Captain Kirk, drawing the teacher into a false sense of security that he could get Cory and Shawn to choosing anyone real for their report). Cory and Shawn conned the teacher into saying they could choose whomever they wanted to, and he didn't realize it. Seriously, that's brilliant.
Season 2 of Boy Meets World is by far my most favorite! The jokes are sharper and quick witted. It’s similar to the writing of early episodes of The Simpsons.
I got curious about this episode and read the whole plot and was disappointed in myself for doing it because this is actually a really good episode that’s worth watching blind
To be completely honest, I disapprove of Mr. Turner outright rejecting Captain Kirk. Just because he's a fictional character doesn't mean that he can't be a role model. As long as Cory was willing to actually do the assignment, he should have been encouraging him. Maybe have him submit a rough draft to make sure he's actually putting some effort into it. Idk, I feel like I'm projecting the issues I had with my own school experience.
Cory gradually became a better student as the series progressed, as noted by Feeny in late season 4 (Security Guy) when pointing out that Cory works very hard to achieve while Eric was capable of getting passing grades in his sleep if he put in the effort.
