Steve has been one of my favorite drummers for nearly 40 years. Great video! Steve’s style, and definitely his tunings, have had a huge influence on my playing. Seeing him play live in person was like a religious experience.
80s artists are in a different level.... not too many people today would even appreciate them, especially the young generation today... hats off to you. you have a great taste in music!!
Couldn’t agree with you more, it’s like with famous guitarist, everyone wants to talk about the shredders, give me a creative, out of the box power house any day! Great video.
Well said about shifting gears with ‘blue Monday’ in the whole cultural field, the sound, the bands original sound I think blue Monday sounds like “atrocity exhibition”
Awesome video, was suggested in my feed because I love Joy Division and New Order. Would be super interested in your thoughts on Gina Schock drummer of The Go-Go’s

Also look at OMD live 1981, OMD's original drummer, Malcolm Holmes, is also an excellent drummer and the very raw 1981 Architecture and Morality tour really shows off his drumming. And to think he was chosen simply because he would play for them. He did come back when the band reformed in ~2007 but he had to quit due to serious health which means that since the mid 2010's 90's OMD drummer Stuart Kershaw now does drum duties.
Depends on the song, sometimes it’s both at once! Check out the early performances. Ceremony & Temptation in 1981 are great examples, he’s so fun to watch. I just saw them live and he was on the drum set most of the time.
The bass drum shaking the tripod works! (was that intensional?) Its interesting to hear a person's personal druming styles and what feels easy for them. I Find all these beats akward and unpleasant to play, that how ever does not mean i dont like how they sound.
Good choice... I'd like to think Mr Morris was influenced a little by Warren Cann, one of the pioneers combining acoustic and electronic drums with drum machines.
Not my favorite style of playing but I respect the stamina and great internal meter it took to play these parts. Neil Peart was obviously great but how many Rush tunes can you dsnce to?
Stephen effing Morris. Thank you!!! And hey not to say he wasn't great but the older I get, the more I get to thinking that Neil Peart might be the most over rated drummer of all time. It kinda hurts to say it, but there it is.
Hey Cobb, I wasn't allowed to comment on your Charlie Watts video because comments were turned off. Sorry to get geeky on you but it was actually Producer Jimmy Miller who played drums on "You Can't Always Get What You Want. An obscure fact for sure and not trying to nitpik you, thought you might want to know though. Apparently Charlie just couldn't feel that one in the studio. Happens.
@@davidwak680 oh no worries! I just felt bad I gave the wrong information and didn’t put a more iconic Charlie beat in its place but now that you’re reminding me, I just realized RUclips has a feature where you can edit clips out of the video so I think I can do that. So I actually owe you a big thanks! I’ll get on that then enable the comments again 😅 Ringo was my first drum teacher!!!
@@cobb_thedrummer Very cool on all counts. In the late 90s I worked at a music store with two other drummers who were Fusion snobs. Dave Weckl was God and Ringo and Charlie sucked in their eyes. I was like "Wait a minute! You can't play on dozens of hits and suck, just doesn't happen." ( Plus how many hits did Dave Weckl play on?). As I commented on one of your videos, I appreciate that you cover interesting and influential drummers like Ringo or Mo Tucker, not just chops drummers.
Nice job You could probably tub out, fatten up and damping that snare drum a little get yourself that nice fat sound probably help you out a little great job though
Favorite Stephen Morris drum beat in J.D or N.O? Mine is Age Of Consent. Sheet music for all these grooves at patreon.com/cobbthedrummer
transmission!
Joy Division for me. Favorite? Too many. Atrocity Exhibition, Disorder, She’s Lost Control, Wilderness….everything.
Yea, there's literally so many iconic beats, but Ceremony or Transmission for J.D. Probably the Village or Face Up for N.O.
In a Lonely Place
New Order's rhythm section is just the best. Steven Morris plus Hooky is a rare combination.

Yep his stuff did make you feel you were listening to a drum machine
Think he played along with drum machines live.
Couldn’t agree with you more, it’s like with famous guitarist, everyone wants to talk about the shredders, give me a creative, out of the box power house any day! Great video.
You are the drummer I was looking for.
awesome man! did not think young people listen to New Order
There are more of us than you would think. I grew up with Joy Division and New Order.
@@User-xw6kd Good to know!!
Love your drumming and insight into the band 😊
Love your passion. I got so much out of this video, thanks for sharing
I wonder if Cobb only can play the drums this way wearing his glasses 😂 No kidding! You really can play 👍🏻
You’re good! Growing up in the 80s I never thought of drum machines . Thank you for showing us the reality of Stephen Morris.
Your channel is so informative Cobb I appreciate your love for Drumming

The drumming on Murder is out of this world. Same auth Denial, Senses and doubts even here. Oh Ecstasy.
Man it’s been awhile since I’ve listened to either of them. Good stuff you’re doing!

Thanks great video!
Great stuff dude!
He also did a wicked performance that still blows me away with Joy Divison - She's lost control (Live at the something else show)
Great content subbed
Also "disorder" is unmatched
Well done lad, great video. Keep working that talent.

Hope you’ve read Stephen’s biogs btw - fantastic books!
Have you seen the sound check videos from the "New Order - Hacienda Soundcheck 10/06/87"?
Yes! Thank you for referencing this. I love that clip of Stephen jamming out on the kits. I wish there were more videos of him like that!
The real human drum machine was the late Jaki Liebezeit, drummer with Can. I'd love to see you do a video on his drumming style and technique.🙂

My favourite drum song de Stephen Morris is Isolation Lp verson.
Yes Sir. Another great video. Perhaps you can do one on Sam Fogarino of Interpol? Always a pleasure 🍻
For some (drum unrelated) reason, you reminded me of Christian Slater in this video :)
My favorite one is extacy!!!
those sunglasses came out of nowhere
❤
Steve was awesome in Joy Division. Listen to Disorder. Ceremony, She's lost control
❤❤❤
Great job!
What? I thought their stuff used a drum machine! Will go back and relisten to some of this.

Can you do a video on Ronnie Vanucci Jr. ? Guy is well known but not if that makes sense, he’s got some tasty licks
pls pls pls do tim herb (Primus)

I know, that was literally all the comments on that video lol. Even though I pinned a comment about my mistake, I kept getting reminded.
@@cobb_thedrummer Oh sorry. Didn't mean to add to that. I never knew it until I read a real thick and detailed book on the Stones.

No offence but You played Temptation too fast and the two off beat hit comes on 3. 1, 2,,3,3, 4.
