0:55 "in the early 80s Manchester was very grey" - footage of Manchester in the 90s with the tram open
Haha I thought the same thing, artistic license perhaps
Probably the best record ever written.
Had heard Blue Monday a number of times live before it was released - still didn’t prepare me for the first time I heard it on the radio in 1983. Sounded like nothing I had ever heard before. Like aliens had taken over the airwaves.
Sounds so modern and always will. A milestone in music!
Stephen seems like just such a lovely guy
It was always the drummer, I watched him when the were current drive through huge sets digitally on point. Changed the range of beats coming out of the disco and into techno.. love to New Order!
Still sounds futuristic
Brilliant song !! Deserves to be the best selling 12 inch in history 👏
"It's not an 808 or a Drumulator,it's a DMX and it is greater!"
Is it the TB303 on your picture?
@@antonioskoutsoyiannis5319 yes
rum dmc use dmx too that's they'r famous
Wow !! that’s the world class wreckin cru Dmx quote.

And here is the actual DMX they used. Now owned by a friend who lives up the road. Acquired from Cargo studios in Rochdale when he was recording with his band. Think it was £250 he paid for it back in the day.
Donna Summer’s “Our Love”, is another influence.
And uranium by kraftwerk is another one and also I agree with the other one too
and the bass line was another rip off 😂❤
Blue monday is a masterpiece from the eighties!!!
Best electronic song ever!
Yes...and it's the 1983 original that is the best...NO OTHER VERSION can touch it.
Great video. Good work Dig! people
Why would anyone dislike this?!
This is awesome. I thought they'd at least mention 'Our Love' by Donna Summer since they've confessed before how much it inspired them....everyone go listen to that and wait for it!
Good point, but this is more about the technology. Here's a good video where they talk about all the songs they used in this song: ruclips.net/video/Iyzk1Gwwu7c/видео.html
About 13 years ago, I remember watching a documentary where Bernard said he/they programmed a sequencer/sampler for the bulk of Blue Monday. And then there was either a power cut or something, so they lost all the music and had to start again from scratch. Now I can't find anything about that.
Did I dream/imagine this, or did it really happen? I'd love to watch that again if anyone knows where I could find it.
Ta.
I’ve heard that somewhere too, might be on wiki
@@lukeyraptor6738 Na it was definitely a documentary type of thing (not text). Thanks anyway. Glad to know I didn't imagine it.
@@Dani-El. yeah you’re right… might be in that transmission mini doc they did on RUclips a couple of years ago? Let me know if you find it, gonna drive me crazy now too hahaha!
@@lukeyraptor6738 I think the one I saw it mentioned was on BBC4 or some other cable channel. And I've not watched TV since 2009 so it really was that long (13 years) ago.
But that's not to say it wasn't also on a more recent documentary.
I will let you know if I find it.
It did happen. Peter Hook writes about it in his book "Substance".

Fantastic video!
I can’t imagine this in the New York clubs must’ve been a great time to be alive
Yes indeed how wonderful moment when you heard a record in a disco that would become an absolute classic
Love it!!!
The video clips are from Blue Monday 88 though. The original Blue Monday video was like the 586 video just a bunch of stripes and graphics IIRC
Bernards home made sequencer 👍 Cubase , cakewalk etc made it possible for the rest
Imagine, it was "different" back then. Not anymore. Today it is just like anything else. I remember when someone asked what I listen to when I am not listening to electronic music and my answer was I only listen to electronic music. They just couldn't believe it.
"low budget equipment" WHAT!? All their synthesizers were very high end! The DMX adjusted for inflation was over ten grand! Budget my arse!
They talk about synth bass, played if I'm not wrong by the Moog Source. There was higher end equipment back then than that.
It ain’t no Jupiter 8 I guess
Thank you Kraftwerk, Ian Curtis, and everybody else.
🙏🙏🙏
still got the 12in vinyl ... 😎
Blue monday es el tema bolichero de todo los tiempos por excelencia
How does it feel?
To treat me like you do?
Song name at 5:20 - 5:34? Or still Blue Monday??????
Blue Monday 1988

The B side of Blue Monday (The Beach) it's basically an instrumental mix of Blue Monday
@@Scottish_Son Equally good too!
Sounds like it's from The Beach which is more or less the instrumental of Blue Monday
Presumably no accident this video is 8.08 minutes long?
No relevance to the 808 i'm afraid...DMX all the way.
@@tracyyy99 Purely a coincidence as the 808 is mentioned in the video.
Can someone please explain why when the subject of Blue Monday is discussed they always seem to refer at somepoint to the F*****G 1988 REMIX...Blue Monday was released in 1983...STOP referring to the f*****g not so good remix video or whatever...The 1983 ORIGINAL IS THE BEST...NOTHING, and i mean NOTHING including that pathetic live verison New Order did on TOTP CAN BE COMPARED to the masterpiece that is 1983s BLUE MONDAY...Thankyou.
You’re absolutely right 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
You are right. The 88 is weaker.
Amen yo. I like the 88 remix, but that original version is a goddamn masterpiece
The 88 remix is as a much a masterpiece as the original. Doesn't have to be one or the other it's the same damn band.
@@brian_hibbs Noted, but brian a Masterpiece is an Original...a remix is that, a remix which I think on this occasion is RUBBISH.. BTW New Order are a great band, but if the subject of Blue Monday is brought up...play the f******ing original. That is what people bought, that is why it is one of the most successful 12"s on the planet NOT THE 88 REMIX.
the low cost budget , lol

Great track to have in your catalogue for the live gigs
There is one, and ONLY one song that comes to my mind with that title. Check out "Blue Monday" by Fats Domino and compare the two.
