madam ify I just cook this soup today and d last batch my son use it to make Indomie, it was so nice I never xpeted d Indomie was gonna taste so lovely, cheers
I’m Nigerian and have never tried black soup but I’m willing to give it a go. I must tell you though that if you haven’t tried snails ‘YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MISSING’ 😂😱🤓🥰🤗🥳
It’s not the same, we DO NOT use coco yam leaves for black soup. What you have in Ghana might be black in color, but what we call black soup in Nigeria 🇳🇬 is cooked completely different with different ingredients.
@@knowledgebank4rmFOM please stop the FALSE information. I am from Edo state where black soup originates from and it’s NOT cooked with any form of coco yam, be it leaves or the coco yam itself. If you are from Edo state, then ask your parents how to cook it, though a simple goggle search will tell you the ingredients involved, without telling you how it is cooked traditionally.
@@joye5761 calm down, I meant casava leave, I too was surprised when I read your comment. I think it is an oversight. Y involving my parents and all that, are we quarrelling? I cook black soup frequently and I know, almost all the leaf. Please calm down. People make mistake. I am just seeing cocoyam on the write up.
@@knowledgebank4rmFOM lol 😂 🤣 cassava leave is also not involved. It’s the traditional soup of the Esan people of Edo state and we don’t cook with cassava leave, we eat cassava as Akpu sometimes, pounded yam is the traditional dish.
Scent leaves = African NumNum basil & uziza leaves = black pepper leaves... For those in the west looking to duplicate this soup, it's a great savory soup with bold notes wafting with beautifully paired flavors of oregano, black pepper and sweet basil.. . Personally I only use (hickory) smoked meats in mine, finishing it with white pepper or some Malabar black pepper as well. The soup boasts of distinct aromatic flavors that pair exceptionally well together & make it a great introductory soup base for those who aren't accustomed to ethnic foods. I've made this as a gumbo topped with red basmati and as a pesto with cavatapi noodles & hand made meatballs. My dinner guests have NEVER stopped asking for it either.
Just so you know, red and green makes black with painting. I learned this in college in my Light Color and Design class. So this makes total sense! Looks yummy! (With specific pigments it creates black. This means other times it creates a brown. Think contrast, a deeper cooler green will create the right shade with a specific red.)
Traditionally without the Ugwu leaves and it originated from Edo state. I grew up eating it as a child though I hardly cook it now, it’s VERY medicinal.
Yup! I make this all the time. If you haven't had this and you're Nigerian, you've missed a whole lot. Please, add some Iru (locust beans), to take it to another level.
My mum cooks with scent leaf, marugbo, ajo(turmeric),cottonwool leaf, moringa, and two others I don’t remember with some other ingredients chai it’s so stressful to cook ..I like this your style it’s simple and short.
Yeey.....This soup is highly medicinal.....In Ilaje ( Ondo State) where I am from, it's our native soup. Bitter leaves is also added, and fresh fish is our thing. Thanks for the video

@@Cashline3d The two leaves are scent leaf and Uziza leaf
Just so you know, all of the colors combined, makes the color brown.* Learned that in elementary school.
Red green brown etc makes my stomach happy 🤣🤣🤣
