The baby box does not facilitate abandonment.
The issue was that the alternative was babies being found abandonned in the street, on doorsteps, or worse in rubbish bins, where they died of exposure. The church itself had babies suffering illness from being left outside their door.
The baby box does not push mothers to abandon their child more easily, it makes sure the child survives.
In any case one of my classmates was a korean adoptee. Her adoptive parents enrolled her in the local Korean school where she learned the language, culture and they met immigrant parents. Eventually her file was unsealed and she met her mom In Busan. She was put for adoption because her family was too poor and starving. This was an attempt to save her life and her birth mom was very happy to see her well, and hoped she did not hate her for her choice (but had she not done this, she would likely not have survived and would have had a much harder life)

There is a Taiwanese saying: "Putting your biological parents aside, the kindness of your adoptive parents is higher than the sky." No matter how difficult your birth parents were at that time, your adoptive parents are the ones who really care about you.

that's a common misconception that is hurtful to adoptees. I'm not sure how to succinctly explain this but in the modern world, international adoptive parents can no longer adopt out of "selflessness". The premise of "unselfish adoptive parents" is to imply that adoptive parents are better people, better than the adoptee, better than the birth parents. It's not good for the kids. In practice, most adoptive parents (if not all) adopt because of one's dream to become a parent. It's a match of the broken hearts.

I disagree with the Taiwanese saying that you mentioned here. Not all adoptive parents are good people. There are real-life cases where adoptive parents abused children whom they had adopted.

DNA test every baby at birth. Most of the US already does it at the morgue. No father could hide from supporting his child and the mother would be known, at least for records. They would have to still allow for the parents to decide to give up the baby. I don’t think that will ever be completely stopped.

In Israel, there is an organization called Efrat which gives poor mothers expecting a baby all the baby supplies and formula they would need for the first 2 or 3 years. The mothers are so happy to have their baby. The aim of this organization is to prevent abortion by poor mothers. A noble aim.

As a mother when i see children without parents i feel such a meternal pull.Ive always been good with children from a young age.I understand not all women feel this way.Wonder why us that do feel this way feel this way?For instance i can be in a public hear a baby cry see a parent or care giver steuggling to settle the child and i just wanna take over and settle the baby.Babys work alot on the feelings of the care giver so when it comes to common baby problems it takes patients and confidence to deal with a child say thats teething or suffering from colic.I do have to say as a young mother myself i see so many young mums that just lack what it takes.Or first time mums in general that are in total shock how much work a baby takes. One thing that is key is having a routine with liltle one .The baby box is such a sad and upsetting thing but at the same time ita better than the baby just being abandoned on the street curb as dusturbing as the box is.I hope all the babys put in the box find a forever loving home🏡 😊❤
