  • In this exclusive interview with Car Dealer, Stellantis UK Managing Director Maria Grazia Davino discusses crucial topics impacting the car industry. Davino highlights the potential closure of UK production plants at Ellesmere Port and Luton if the government fails to provide adequate support and incentives for electric vehicle (EV) adoption. She advocates for VAT cuts and fiscal incentives to boost EV demand and expresses her support for bringing back the 2030 petrol and diesel car ban.
Davino also addresses current challenges faced by Stellantis, including late dealer bonus payments and cars stuck at ports. She shares the steps being taken to resolve these issues and improve operations.
Additionally, she explains the decision to delay the implementation of agency sales until 2027 and outlines Stellantis's strategy to comply with the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate without incurring fines. This comprehensive interview provides insights into the strategic decisions and ongoing efforts at Stellantis UK.

Not impressed with the MD's responses or attitude. I would expect more from someone in such a senior position

Not one of us knows what she has to deal with on a day to day basis. Sometimes I feel she's in her position because others who failed before her were too soft and bewildered by the entire situation. She seems like she takes little sh*t, is aware of the enormous scale of the problem ahead and understands what the worst case scenario will look like.

@@ricbrook7059 well, when a public charger takes 45 minutes to add 20 miles of range to a car with a range of over 200 miles, you do the maths. I count it to be at least 8 hours if you need to recharge an almost empty battery. If that's not several hours, then what is?

Maybe the cars she produces just aren't good enough to attract new buyers. The market will always decide, and it seems to like Teslas, but not Stellantis vehicles. She should answer that question, instead of lots of excuses.

Stellantis are arrogant and losing their battles
You can't destroy your dealer network and yet expect to survive!
Their brands are screwed in Yorkshire, I know this as I've worked for the majority of their dealerships that aren't no more!

  • @Teribus13

If Stellantis won't supply ICE cars, people will just buy from manufacturers who will - it's that simple. Electric cars, especially in the UK with our woefully inadequate charging network and crumbling national grid, simply do not suit a great many people. Beyond that, the majority of people in the UK can't charge at home, a great number of those will not be able to charge at home in the next decade or so (people living in flats, people with no off-street parking and no on-street parking outside their home, etc etc).
Ultimately, people don't want to have a car that takes 45 minutes to add 20 miles of charge as I have experienced at supposed "rapid" charging points local to me.
The governments will have to bow to the will of the people, at the end of the day. Scrap the ZEV mandate.
