This is a drag race you didn’t know you needed… Until today!
We’ve got Mat in the all-new Hyundai IONIQ 5 N, and it’s about to go head-to-head against a Lamborghini Aventador SV!
So let’s see how these two speedsters compare. Starting with the Hyundai, it’s powered by two electric motors that can produce 650hp and 770Nm of torque. This power is sent to all four wheels, and naturally being an EV, it’s pretty heavy, tipping the scales at 2,235kg. However, considering the amount of power, it’s relatively cheap, costing just £65,000.
Then alongside it, we have the mighty Lambo. It’s powered by a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12, and this can produce 750hp and 690Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed automatic gearbox, and it’s a whole lot lighter than the IONIQ, weighing in at 1,525kg. It’s a whole lot more expensive though, costing from £238,000!
The Lambo has more power, so will it be a walkover? Or will electric power prevail against this supercar? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

@@mauricetoussaint7283 The electrification of all cars is inevitable at this point. After 2035, no ICE cars will be sold in Europe. So it's nice to see that car makers are thinking about how to bring some of that emotion back.

An exhaust can only do so much and on a 4 cylinder (that doesn't sound good) with a turbo (which ALWAYS robs the engine of a huge amount of noise and character as it works like a silencer!) then it would need to work literal miracles to sound even a thousandth as good as this Lambo (and its high revving, screaming, already tuneful V12)

After a decade the Lamborghini Aventador has so much character and emotion. The brutal sound is absolutely amazing. Without a doubt one of the greatest modern supercars ever built.

@@DoorDashMCR Its categorised under SUV and the dimensions show its a SUV, as an example a Honda CRV (in mm) is 4704 L x 1866 W x 1681 H and the Ioniq 5N is (in mm) 4715 L x 1940 W x 1585 H and the wheel base on the Ioniq 5N is bigger then the CRV by 299mm, if its not a SUV then its one massive hatchback thats bigger then most compact - medium SUV's 😂
If instead this one it was a Tesla MS Plaid (half the price from the lambo) it would win easily; the Lambo wins specially at high speeds because the Hyundai is much taller and worse aerodynamics. I love that Hyundai ICE imitating sound (though too electronic but better than nothing!)

You can't see the difference in price and daily use? I have a Hyundai Ionic 5n. It is just a fantastic car to drive.
@@iMortalHQ You realize some fool in 1910 was like "how you supporting those motor vehicles, they aren't as good as a horse" and then in 1960 someone said "How you supporting those automatics they aren't as good as manuals" EVs are instant power, they don't have to rev or downshift for power. They are better, just accept it. An EV in the same price range as this Lambo, like the Sapphire will crush it in a drag race AND have more comfortable seats, better infotainment and better air conditioning etc. It isn't about saving the environment for me (which EVs don't) Its about speed and power for the money, and EVs crush gas cars on that front, all there is to it. If they cut the price on a BMW M3 in half I'll buy it, until then I'll take an EV. They all WAY overcharge for gas cars above 500 HP.

It is not mandatory to have the ICE sound. You can run it completely silent too. Then you have just tire and wind noise and that grows old quite fast too.

So many Aventadors have been in the Carwow Drag races, This one with the Gintani Exhaust systems is by far sounds the best.
100%. Out of the hundreds of CW drags I've watched, that's possibly the best sounding car I've heard go down the strip (albeit through my headphones or speakers!). 👍
You really need to put a low cut filter on your audio... the rumbling from 10:30 onwards in the low end is just crazy. I watched your video in my recording studio and the subwoofer just went crazy.
But the fact that a 60k electric car with working gears even tried to go against that beast and made it a respectable race is mind blowing!!!

GMC typhoon was faster than the Ferrari F40 in the 1980s. A city car, the Lancia Delta S4 Stradale was as fast as the F40, one of the fastest cars in the world in the 1980s.

Misha Charoudin tested the Hyundai ioniq 5 N on the Nurburgring. And the fake gear shifting actually affects the performance of the car on track.
Additionally the Hyundai is one of the very few that can go rave on the track twice without having to charge it again.

Are you sure? It's the other way. The 'gears' REDUCE power until it 'revs' high like an engine would be like. Actual electric mode is full power at all speeds. It would definitely be faster!

So i drive on the Nürburgring here in Germany twice a Month during Touristenfahrten (which is each Weekend) and a while ago there were 3 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ns with me on the Track, and i've see a lot of EVs on the Nürburgring the past Years, but the Ioniq 5N was definitely the most track-capable. I never driven one, but i'm impressed how good they do on the Nürburgring.
And before the Tesla Boys jump in, lots of Teslas on the Nürburgring, including Plaids, but all of them aren't remotely as good at difficult Spots and Corners as the Ioniq 5N is

@@hassanger8128 what i would like to state, is that Hyundai has come so far in terms of technology. While it was a cheap Korean car company, selling lower budget cars, now it sells performance cars and they cost somehow a lot. I am pleased to see such a progress like that.

Also, from the footage, it seems they didn't use the boost, so in reality the car's peak power was 40 hp lower.
@@Dqtube Matt mentioned the boost button several times, and they did roll races with and without boost to compare the difference. Plus, in launch control mode it always uses boost.
@@Xenon0000000000001 But not for ¼ mile where would it be the most useful. The boost only lasts for 10 seconds and a rolling race takes more time. So the scenario where it would make the most sense didn't happen. The car would still be slower than the Lambo, but in tests run by others they averaged 0.2 seconds faster with boost. It's a bit naughty from Matt.

$65,000 for 650 hp is one hell of a conversion rate, not many vehicles can compete with that. I love that even “cheaper” vehicles are getting fast, just not a fan of the weight of electric vehicles and the braking just never really feels comfortable. If they can figure out the brakes and weight issues, I’d be much more into EV’s but right now I just see these super fast ones as outside of my comfort zone to drive.

The braking distance is determined by the traction coefficient of the tires, so regen braking should logically make no difference whatsoever.
yeah regen braking works by capturing the otherwise lost energy of the wheels spinning the motor under momentum, creating resistance which slows down the car, but it functions completely independently of the brakes, which need to be able to handle a lot more stopping power that would destroy the motor.

It depends. Regen braking is done by the motor, and can change brake pressure between 100 and 1000 times a second (depending on implementation), while some of the better ABS systems can do it just 15 times a second. That means if you can rely on regen for regulating brake pressure, you don't get the micro-slides of ABS.
It's not enough to save the Ioniq, it simply has too much weight and not enough tire surface area.
