  • Taking a third look at the NUX Cerberus
    I updated to the latest firmware and software and it expanded the capability of the unit massively.
    It now has a shimmer reverb, the capacity to add a two button footswitch to control two more effects on and off and also the capacity to add a function to the current preset footswitch. This makes the unit even more gig friendly and really makes it a serious player in the live multi effect market. I'm seriously impressed with it now and I was pretty wowed before these updates.

    Hey Nice vids. I have one of these for nearly 5 years now and use it mainly for fly gigs. It punches way above its weight, and sooo well thought out for the gigging guitar slinger - must have been designed by one! I haven’t updated the software as there’s no need for my needs as yet. I use the left output to desk with the standard IR ( a jz120 - 2x12 i think sounds brilliant and sound guys love it, so no touchy ) and then right to whatever amp has been provided on hire, which can be god knows what, the sound man blends the two (no stereo spread not interested) and it always sounds great even on the IR alone. A Wah in front, and tuner (not too impressed with the built in one) and a Boss Harmoniser in the loop which is an octaver too and use the unit in manual stomp mode. This mirrors my home rig (Boogie Dual Rec/2x12/ pedals) and every sound I can get, identically, tap tempo too. I’m old Skool and love a good valve amp 😂. And yes i think we should all buy two cause they may end up iconic and selling for millions soon. I was drawn initially to the analogue drives and I think that’s where the magic lies, as you do too. I’m planning on getting a DVMark EG 60 head and 1x12 cab for dep work (here in Ireland too) quite impressive little rigs you should see about a review, the Italian players I’ve come across all love them, and now endorsed by Eric Gales. But I’ll be using the Cereberus with it. A light rig for on the run stuff complete with every sound you could want. Fear of god sets in when I set up my usual rig with ‘strangers’, not to mention the power on tap 😂
    Anyway glad I discovered your channel, great to find a local one!

    I too, will be purchasing another Cerberus😝😝and stick either the California Sound or or Amp Academy or Atomic Amplifier at the end of the chain for amp modeling. This will be my mainly NUX board. I’ve got the Horseman as a clean boost, the Plexi Crunch for a slightly heavier Dist tone and the Nux Modcore pre Cerberus Dist, as I prefer some mods before distortion. This with a wah wah at the 1st in signal chain. Yes I love Nux pedals, they rock, and I’ve never had any issue with them whatsoever. 🔥🔥💯🤘🏾👊🏾✊🏾🎸

      @taurushamilton2739 Год назад

      @@TheGuitarEffect the Horseman is great! One of the best clean lead boost that I’ve used… I kicked the mini Spark off of that board. It’s actually a 2 circuit pedal, red and green, just hold the footswitch longer. The green is definitely a heavier, more gainy tone. U can max out gain on both tones, and it’s cool as a traditional “overdrive” but I use mine primarily as a clean boost for clean or dirty leads with the gain dialed back✊🏾

    So I got the Cerberus and loving it, but I think I found a bug. I got a 2 button footswitch and TRS cable and assigned the A button to the reverb and B button to "ModFX" which only turns on the Tremolo, Phaser and U-Vibe only, which is what I want. Easy enough, BUT the problem is when I turn on the Mod/B Switch on the Cerberus, it turns on both sides, ModFX and Chorus side simultaneously and seems to be no option to only turn on just the Chorus side if not mistaken? So then if I want Chorus only, I hit the Cerberus Mod/B Switch, THEN I have to hit the external footswitch B to turn off the ModFX portion so I only hear the chorus. Not sure if a way around this!

    • @TheGuitarEffect

      Hey. Thx for the comment. I don’t have a Cerberus at the moment. Mainly because I don’t need one and I have to keep moving gear on to find new gear for review.
      But as far as I can remember that’s correct and I think the same thing applies to Reverb and delay too. If you switch the mod fix off on the footswitch before you turn the chorus on I think it may work in that one instance but I’m not sure.

      Hey Carlos. The delays, reverbs, modulations are of a very similar quality on both these units. That’s very much the idea with it. If you want hi fidelity delays and reverbs get the HX effects it’s sounds are on a different level to either of these. If you want standard sounding effects but want versatile switching get theMS3 if you are in a budget get the Cerberus.

      Hey. To be honest I don’t know. The MIDI guidance is really poor that’s available online. I don’t have my Cerberus anymore. But I don’t think so

      Hey Carlos. The switches have a mechanical click sound as they are very robust but there’s no actual popping sound coming out of your amplifier.

    Can this unit control the Tonex via MIDI?

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  7 месяцев назад

      Hey. No not really. What do you want it to control?

    • @dedetube
      @dedetube 7 месяцев назад

      To control bank and present changes ob the Tonex like how the Boss GX-100 can

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  7 месяцев назад

      So yes and no. Every time you change patch on the Cerberus it sends out the my bed of that preset as a MIDI PC message to the ToneX. So preset one on the Cerberus selects preset one on the ToneX. There is no way to edit that. So for example you cannot make preset 1 on the Cerberus pull up preset 3 on the tonex

    • @dedetube
      @dedetube 7 месяцев назад

      I see... This can still work.. Just gotta order the banks and patches accordingly. Thanks!

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  7 месяцев назад

      Yep. It’s just about organizations the only thing I’d say is there’s no display on the Cerberus to know what preset you are in so once you get past 2 banks it can be problematic to remember where you are.

    I just rewatched this my friend… so w the new software update we can assign an additional effect on the same button in preset mode? For some reason I missed that when I watched the first time, then I saw toward the end of ur demo u pressed one or 2 of ur effects a second time, there was a boost, which I’m sure you programmed, right? If I am correct in this assessment, does that trick work in manual mode as well, and also can you use that 2button switch in manual mode as well to access more control functions? On another note, with regard to the unit, what the difference between firmware and software ?(not a techie at all) do I need to upload both the newest firmware and software as well? I haven’t deep dived w a computer w this thing yet. Please advise sen sei!👍🏾🙏🏾

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  Год назад +1

      Hey Taurus. Right. A good few questions there.
      1. Yes while in preset mode there are a number of functions you can assign to the current footswitch preset. Mainly boosts (pre or post)
      2. You can assign a number of functions to the external footswitch. But only the functions that aren’t available from the rest of the footswitch during manual mode. So reverb, modulation, tap tempo, boost etc.
      3. Software is what you use for editing the unit with a computer. Firmware is how you implement updates to the unit itself. But you also need a computer to do this.
