- Just a quick video for future reference of the ALLEN T-120 Distributor Machine that needs repair and a simple calibrator you can build for RPM and Dwell.
This machine stinks when it runs. Why do people think I'll take ten minutes to clean a machine before I even start to work on it and then they want it done for almost nothing. I could make this a nice digital meter machine, but I'm just going to give it back. Just a quick video before I do. From what I see the meters do not have a common ground which means it has to be rewired. The machines DC power supply could also be filtered to power the digital meters.
The calibrator is not hard to build. Search for PWM generator. I used a IRFP260 FET but any FET over 200V and 40A would work. The meter reads in duty cycle in percentage. Just multiply the maximum dwell, 90, 60, 45, by that percentage and you will get the dwell reading. example 45 degrees X 67% duty cycle gives 30.15 degrees of dwell.
Upgrading these machines to digital meters is far cheaper than finding these meters.
I found one of these machines in Clevland of all places and I am outside of Philly. I rebuild magnetos as a hobby and I am building my own magneto that will have a bunch of tunable abilities. I have an older Sun distributor machine in which the original flash tube system has recently failed. Rather than trying to repair the flash tube with a LED based flashing system. How do I contact you to discuss?

@@opera5714 If you would be interested in going through the syncrograph and making it also work with HEI modules I would be thrilled.
@@donaldandsherylvieira1593 It probably does already. If I remember, this has a 12V power supply built in. 12V and common needs to be applied to the module and the output connects to the points.
@@opera5714 Sit, it only has one lead/alligator clip. The guy I bought it from said it was for points style distributors.
@@donaldandsherylvieira1593 That is true, but internally there is a 12V power supply and you can solder onto and bring that to supply + and - power to the HEI module.
Man… I don’t have the time to make one of those. I would be more than willing to pay you for your time to make me one for my Sun machines! I have distributors coming out my ears to build for other customers. Please let me know! Very much appreciate your videos
You want a calibrator or LED replacement module for the sun? I have all the parts for a calibrator. Tricky thing is getting a box to put it in.
