Thanks so much for the video. I put everything back together after removing the carb and the ignition coil. Everything is back working after it sat for about ten years.
Good video. I have the same one that came with the cabin I bought. They took really good care of everything. Started it up this spring with one pull. I already put dry gas in it for winter. Next thing is change the plug, air filter n sharpen it. Gonna get a lot more years out of it
My dad had that same mower for 10+ years, worked great and of course had regular oil changes and small tune ups. Never gave us a problem. Stuff lasts if you take care of it. Problem is people don't and neglect them to a state where you need to replace major components. Nice fix, it will make a decent mower for someone.
Makes me want to restore my early 90s Eager 1 mower my dad gave me. I still remember going to Sears to get it as a youngin. It still runs like a champ besides never really giving it an oil change or any sort of maintenance really. Just bought a new air filter and it made a heck of a difference. Now I have to replace some rust in the front of the body and needs a new fuel cap. I thinking of going beyond and giving it a almost complete restoration. I've been tempted to buy a new one, but I have seen my buddy's 2014 Toro break down a few times due to sitting too long. I'm going to stick with mine. Just bought a new house, my wife hates it, but I'm going to make it look as good as possible. Can't wait 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I picked one up off the curb yesterday with free sign on it of course. The prime bubble is broken. Just going to buy new carb kit on ebay for 15 bucks. I love it when people throw there lawnmowers away. Always looking.
Hi, what if the carburetor doesn't have a nipple on top for the breather hose? Can you add a filtered hose onto the crankcase or does the carburetor need to be connected through that hose in order to function? Thank you!
Awesome video as usual Hank. I think those older craftsman mowers are pretty good mowers for the price.. I’ve used those el cheapo Chinese carbs on some Stihl weed eaters and chain saws and they still seem to be working fine... thanks for the awesome videos...👍👍👍 and “stay classy” lol...
Thanks for putting this on! I have a really poor carburetor on a Eager-1 too that is identical to this machine. Just one question though, you mentioned that you used a "Japanese" carburetor if I heard correctly, would you possibly have the specs for this carb? Meaning the manufacturer, model etc. and maybe where I could get one? Thanks again - good show. Rick
Hey Hank, I'm binge watching your videos and good stuff man. Question; What diameter TRUE BLUE rope are you using and what site do you order your parts and stickers for your stuff? I'm sidelined for 2 weeks with an injury and your videos keep me sane. Thank you & stay classy my friend
Apparently my Eager 1 is rare because I can't find anyone working on the exact model that I have. Many of the parts are discontinued also when other Eager 1 models have plenty of available parts. Frustrating.
Nice job .. I was just given one of these .. cleaned the carb, put in a new bowl gasket, and got it running well after warm up .. just tough to prime and keep running for a few first starts. Who was the vendor and part number of the replacement carburetor you put in?
I’ve been following in your footsteps sort of and have started to fix mowers that people throw out. I have them for sale on Craigslist but haven’t had much luck selling them. Any thoughts on what I should do to sell them quicker?
Evan Rewitzer Good clear pictures seem to make a difference, try to have a good description about size and in my area, people show up in cars so if the handle folds down, that is important to them. Wiping the painted parts with some WD- 40 shines them up a lot. Good luck.
I second what Wayne said. However I have been selling on offerup the past year or so. It’s a lot more convenient than cl and you can screen buyers a little better
Evan, First is don't be discouraged. I third what everyone has said. Also make sure your mowers are priced similarly to others near you for sale. (research other mowers on craigslist) I think the thing that sells my mowers is I wash, and wax them after they have been serviced and have very clear photos. Best of luck! -Nick.
Thanks everyone for the tips. I’ll have to try offer up and see if it makes a difference. Now that it’s finally warming up in Michigan, I am hoping that more people will be looking for mowers on Craigslist.
The engine model number is going to be on the engine cover. I believe Sears is the only one still showing a parts diagram online. Just Google your engine model number and see what vendors come up. Once you get your carburetor part number, search Amazon for a good price with good reviews.

Great to hear!

Honestly with proper maintenance the motor should easily outlast the rest of the machine. The wheels should literally end up falling off.
Another one back to life! Nice job!! Now that the weather has finally broken here I need to dig all my mowers out of storage and hibernation.

How did it go?
I love old tecumseh mowers, mainly because of the oiling system
What's the part number for that new carburetor? I have that old mower and in need of a carburetor for it.

Thanks for posting, this is a good informative & entertaining video. Nice seeing the old Craftsman lawn mower working. Thumbs up !!
Boy that’s an oldie, been years since I saw one. Good job.
Thanks for stopping by Jim!
Those are a great little mower should keep going for a long time.
Very nice I have it working again, Thank You for the info !
Very nice, thanks. Will try to identify the models for the parts mentioned,
Hank that's my favorite kind of craftsman older

Hello - I got the same model from a friend - would you be able to share the PN or source for the carburetor replacement ?
the easiest way to get a carb number is the engine number and a google search.. i think it would be an lev #
Great video! Where do you source the replacement carbs?

They seem to hold up well for me too.
I have an Eager 1 I need a carburetor for it without the vent tube. Can you tell me where I can go to find this.
Nice ole Craftsman, you can't beat the price & convenience of those Chinese carbs!
I agree. I’ve had fairly good luck with them so far

I'd like to know aswell
Could someone please send me a link of the grass catcher for this specific model? I can’t seem to find it anywhere.
Runs like new again not bad for a old mower

I get it all from amazon. I believe it’s stens 146-915

What engine model is this? Mine needs a new crank.

Who was the vendor and part number of the replacement carburetor you put in?
a.co/2u1fdSk
BTW .. mine doesn’t have the red tube, nor the PVC (maybe it’s missing) .. what’s the red tube for?
So good, so far...😉

Oh you are in my backyard, then. I'm in the Detroit area. Best of luck to you.
What is a good interval to do a full service?
I have a new Honda mower, been almost 2 years now since we bought it.
Every year. The manual will break it down to hours but most people it comes out to once a year.
where do you buy your carbs from, and is there a model number, i need to replace mine, thanks Steve, by the way love your video, easy to follow

Would a Briggs & Stratton 6.5hp Quantum engine have the same bell housing bolt pattern as a Tecumseh 4.5hr Eagle 1 engine?
Yes it would.
@@hanksgarage_ Thank You
What did you sell it for?
I have an eager 1 and I have discovered an oil leak from where the oil tube meets the engine
Nice fix
What carb and how can I get one
I got this one off amazon. Type in Tecumseh carburetor and match up with yours.
Why didn't you just replace the plug?
Why replace it if it’s still working? Unless it won’t spark or is damaged there is exactly zero reason to do anything but check the gap.
cool
Some tecumsehs can be very reliable.
It's really easier to use an electric wire brush on a spark plug
I’ve used both. Depends what I am in the mood for. I have a wire wheel on my bench grinder I’ve used on plugs occasionally.
why doesn't my esger-1 have a PCV lmao
