I haven’t totaled up my logbooks in a long time but I’m sure I’ve got to have at least 20,000 landings in these Highlanders. Many times I’ve done 100 of them in a single practice session here at home.
Great video Steve and Sara! Love this content and the competition you bring to STOL. I get a ton of inspiration from the way you strive to be the best and how you innovate your aircraft, and piloting to continue to be the best. A joy to watch you compete with the others!
Steve, you have the amazing gift of being able to get off the ground in a hurry. Thanks for sharing your STOL experiences with us. It truly is fun to watch you take off and land. Keep the videos coming too.
No matter how many times I watch you fly, it's never less exciting. You rock Steve, so awesome seeing you again and I can't wait til the next one! (Also, next time YOU take the controls in the Cub:)
It was just an awesome event and it was cool to meet all of you. We are so glad we made the trip out for this competition. Eric the owner at Somerton airport is such a great guy and appreciated him taking care of us while we were there
Best Light weight Aircraft ever I have seen, wish you All the best. If I may have an opportunity to join in your team for profession and improvements, I will be happy.
Reminds me of Good Ole' Days' of RC formula fun flying. 10 touch and goes in the shortest time with turns, shortest time from takeoff for 3 loops, and 3 rolls and touchdown. I like to see that in 1:1 scale.
Greetings Steve Henry, Congratulations, your plane is wonderful. Please help the little RC Pilots, provide us with the front, side and top views of the SuperStol so that we can experience the pleasure of piloting your beautiful machine. Good landings.
I live in phoenix and have never seen anything about these events. Terrible marketing! I'd definitely be interested in going to see this type of stuff.
Great. Last time I was on the hill with my paraglider I took off vertically. And then landed vertically. If the wind speed is close to your lift speed, of course you can get off quickly.
I have been trying to get a developer to Create a Highander like Steve's for Microsoft Flight Simulator for our eSTOL Competitions. We just partnered with National STOL to bring the first ever Competition eSTOL Season to the simulator in the biggest way possible, and hopefully bridge the gap between the flight sim and real-world aviation even more. We hold STOL Competitions Monthly in the same format as National STOL, but with a little less fuel needed, at courses in the sim that are modeled just like the real life ones at the same airports and locations! Anyone and everyone is welcome to spectate or compete with us in sim!
The ground wind speed is faster than the stall of the plane. Would like to see what it is in still wind conditions. It would still be incredible and fun to see.
Interesting, I really wonder who generates more 'lift' in this case, the wing or the engine? lol. A quick glance at national stol website, it seems like 'experimental' aircrafts are also allowed. So is it possible to use some exotic designs like channel wing, which in theory can even do VTOL?
Steve, are you ever going to do another video flying your “Dead Stick” take off? I know it would be difficult to find a mountain close enough to a town to get a crowd but to me that was very thrilling. It’s been a few years ago but you flew me from Nampa (our hanger) to behind Emmet . My first time waterskiing.
By the way to make this possible it looks like you all had 40kts wind. Also I noticed Mike patey on another video he did something interesting but wasn't designed on his bush plane, he lowered his front shocks and tried to rebound or let the front struts to spring up the plane. So if his able to build such a device that will give the plane 50% lift off capability

If you haven’t wathed this Rock Star ride this Airplane off a mountain without power; your failing yourself! Love Your work Cowboy! Well Your Daughter’s Video work and your flying and building. Ok So it’s your work too, ha!
A good enough gust and you can make it zero. In fact you can lift off going backwards in a good Chinook gust in Boulder, CO - if your plane doesn't flip the moment you untie it.
There’s several places throughout the video that you can see the windsock, and it’s never straight out. It’s easy to see it at the first of the video where I’m taking off and landing short. When I was flying there was definitely less than 15 mph of wind.
Would love one for the airstrip I have, it is timing in today's economy and $$$. Could send you a couple of pics I what I have here. I am sure it would get in and out no problem, just take a little practice.
I did come to Alaska in about 2014 for the Valdez competition. I finished third place behind Frank Knapp and Josh Peppered. It’s just so far away and now they have so many competitions down here that I’d be surprised if I make it to Valdez again.

Gotta love a good headwind! Amazing performance and a great video.
What you have done for stol is incredible!! Amazing job modifying your plane and pilot skill!
Thank you for the nice comment!
The wheels rotated exactly once, nice
Glad you pointed that out, that was so satisfying!
Only noticed after your comment. its less than one full turn!
The production quality of these vids just keeps improving!
I appreciate the comment, I’m really trying to improve quality! Thank you! -Sara
Made me smile. You definitely know how to work that plane. Amazing.

Sara - Really nice shooting, and stellar post…tasty supers, too.
Thank you! Jeremiah made us good food every day 😋 -Sara
Hi Steve and Sara,
With a little more headwind you'll be able to stand it on its tail. Great job winning another one.
Take care,
Be safe.
Congrats to you and your team on your wins Steve. You and your team put in tons of work, and it paid off.
Thanks Bart, yes we do work really really hard to make it look easy!
Great way to wrap up my work day.
Great job all around to Team Henry
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching -Sara

Steve, you are the Pope of STOL... I wish you will win all the competitions this year! Best of luck!

Great video, low key, low pressure, familiar, fun.
congratulations Steve! another great video, thanks Sara :-)

Thank you
Congrats for the record. I enjoyed this video.
A-FREAKING-MAZING !!
Awesome video. Can't believe Colin took you flying in the cub and still hasn't taken me lol. Looking forward to seeing you again at MaydaySTOL 22.
Hello from Minnesota!! Your quality keeps getting better and better!! Keep it up!
Thank you! -Sara
WOW if you watch the stick in the cockpit view he has it pushed FORWARD for most of the clip. Insane. This thing nearly takes off by itself.
Excellent stuff bro

Congratulations Steve next time I want see a VTOL you almost there 😄👍
Fantastic flying Steve!
Thanks 😊
THAT IS AMAZING Ive flown in a Harrier and it couldnt beat that!!!
That had to be fun!!
Nice work Sara! Great video & made it feel like I was there! Steve is an inspirational pilot 😊👍🏼

Can't beat that for effectiveness.

Those 6’ (helicopter) takeoffs are amazing.👍🏽

Nice 👍 and that wind was nice too 😁
That lil bit of wind was just what you needed 😁👍✌👊

WOW just WOW!
Saw you guys at Copperstate, it was insane!
Thanks for coming out and seeing us!
Rất tinh tế và nghệ thuật, điều khiển rất điêu luyện, cảm ơn video chia sẻ hay lắm chúc bạn sức khỏe.
Dang! Its like a Harrier with a prop lol!
The head wind obviously has alot to do with it taking off so quickly but that motor sounds incredible very high rpm's. Nice skills.
Looks like "Trevor Jacob " 5th person from the left to right #5. Just an observation. Great flying in those conditions.

Sure you don't want a steam catapult to help you with those short deck take-offs? 🤣 Nice competition, Steve! PS: Sara's darn cute!
I think you'd have to mount it vertically to help at this point.. lol
F35: Billions of dollars for research and developing vertical take off.
This guy with old plane : hold my beer
... You won TWO competitions in a row..? Awesome!
That's shorter than some of my foam rc STOL planes. I like that giant prop too
The prop is about 82 inches. NRProp
Steve will always be the STOLMASTER WTG
I’m sure there are quite a few of us that are very capable pilots, I think my Highlander is one of the best airplanes for doing this.

I just have not been able to find another suitable hill to do a dead stick takeoff again.
Wild!
Big Head Winds Really Make it look Easy LOL 😆
So at how many knots will that yellow work of art stay airborne at say 50ft alt
That aircraft must have the stall characteristics of a tow glider!
By the way to make this possible it looks like you all had 40kts wind. Hey how do I find more airplane and stop events in Arizona?
Holy smokes brother, what's next for you and yee haw VTOL???🤣😂
I would like to checkout the take off performance in its POH
Great job 👏, Side note 📝

Wow, wow🙆♂️🙆♂️🙆♂️👏👏
I could never imagine a propeller plane taking off so fast.
Good to know when my mother in law is after me😥😂
What was the recorded head wind for that measurement ...????
Look at the windsock when I’m taking off and landing. It’s definitely under 15 knots.
Can you tell us something about the headwind? Seems to be quite strong?
The windsock sock is very visible in the video.
Who needs tilt-rotors when you can have a bush plane and a headwind?
How many knots of headwind do you need for such a short takeoff?
Around 12 knots.
Great pilot and great plane but I have to ask what was the winds speed?
There’s several places throughout the video that you can see the windsock, and it’s never straight out. It’s easy to see it at the first of the video where I’m taking off and landing short. When I was flying there was definitely less than 15 mph of wind.
Wondering what the takeoff roll length would be in still air.
Around 30 feet.

Looks like a strong headwind . Is that factored in ? My house can take off faster if there's enough wind
Steve, git you a stiff wind, and take off backwards. 🤣🤣🤣
😳😳
Soon Steve will have to start taking off in reverse in order to beat his own records
I’m curious: will that thing hang on the prop?
I’ve never tried it, but based on what it weighs and the amount of thrust that it makes I think it would.
New subscriber here🤙👍
Thanks for subscribing!

Какой пробег при взлёте в штиль?
If those takeoffs get any shorter, you won't be able to land that thing. 😊
Great job, Steve.
IS IT NECESSARY TO BE HIGH WINDS FOR THESE PLANES TO TAKE OFF THAT EASY?
If anyone hasn't seen it, find his video of his dirt 6 foot take off watch it, his highlander drags itself off the dirt while he's on the brakes.
That was actually my 2 1/2 foot takeoff with my brakes on. 😊
@@SteveHenry that video and your dead stick take off and landing are what made me fall in love with the Highlander. I really want one now lol
