No worries Chris. Don’t be sorry, the gun still looks great with the best part being the tip with the burnt metal looking parts. Love your work and your channel
OMG Llitteraly my mom got me two of these for Christmas and needed to find a good video and only Chris can do it. Plus got my dad the Han Solo blaster as well. Thanks Chris!
Great vid Chris! A good method for painting carbon fiber is to get a fishnet legging and cover the prop in it and airbrush a silver onto the black surface. You have the illusion of texture and it soooo much easier than working with vinyl.
I think it's always beneficial to show our mistakes and not just successes. It shows people that everyone makes mistakes, that everyone's human, even "experts." I think it gives people permission to try new things and to risk failures. Good on you for keeping the segment in.
Saw the scorched barrel in the thumbnail before what it actually was and I was all in. The attention you give to stressed metal under heat is just sick man.
It's very refreshing to see someone who will go over their failures in order to inform others. Honesty is always the best policy. You've always been a stand-up guy, completely devoid of ego. It's very cool. Something you don't encounter very often in general--not just in the realm of custom toys. And I'm talking about life! Thanks Chris. You're an inspiration. End result is excellent, as always!
Literally just bought 2 of these to do this… good to find someone I recognise to learn from! Frustrating thing is they both right handed so I’ll have to remove that little tab.
Very inspirational and helpful. You might have fallen in love with your vinyl carbon fiber and neglected to search RUclips for how to make faux carbon fiber with shelf liner, spray paint, and a little spray sticky glue.
Thank you for sharing what didn't work as well. The hardest thing, I feel, about making custom collectibles (or anything creative for that matter) is when things don't quite work out the way you envisioned it, and finding a new way. Most creatives are pretty critical of their own work as well so when something doesn't quite go right it can be even more frustrating. Just keep at it, try a different route and you will find something that works and you'll be happy with. That's what I try to do at least. :) Huge fan of your work, and it's because of you that I've been giving a go with my own attempts at custom collectibles. Several things I want to work on, including a diorama of a 2.5 ft tall AT-AT that I need to blow up. ;) I always look forward to your videos. Keep up the great work.
I used a roll of that foam mat with the square pattern that you can use to line drawers as a stencil for my carbon fiber effect on my Death Stroke helmet. You just drape it down and pin it and place and spraypaint silver over your black pattern. It came out pretty nice. Cheers!
Gday chris, I have four of those guns that I’m doing up (for a full star lord cos). 2 to practice with, 2 to cosplay. I’ll be hyrodipping carbon fibre wrap. You should give that a crack. Easy and cheap. Love ya work man👍🏼
The Marvel GOMA Exibition was such an amazing event and a golden opportunity for prop and costume designers such as yourself. I wish I could keep going back to look at all the awesome screen-used memorabilia!
I really love your work and I haven't read the other comments but if you use a spray bottle with just a drop of hand soap and spray it on before applying the vinyl you're able to readjust the vinyl and get the air bubbles out easily and then when you let it dry after using the heat gun it should easily wrap and hold its shape and form
Thank you so much for this video! Definitely made me more confident in making my first cosplay props. Tip for anyone that tries this, definitely DO NOT skip the step where he drills out the barrels with the Dremel. It makes it SO much easier to separate the two pieces. I made this mistake on the first one and it was so hard to pry them apart. The second one I drilled out the holes in the barrels with a power drill, removed the screws, and easy peasy to separate.
Love your work mate.. you always amaze me with you customers collectibles and your cosplay. And still amazed on how much you like the cosplay Chris pirate batman logo I made for you.
Great Videos, and thanks for the blaster heat damage with paint brushes, not all of us are good with an airbrush.....I think the blaster came out GREAT. Most people do not realize how much work goes into these projects and while the grips did not turn out like you wanted, seeing how hard that material was to work with was helpful. We love the projects you work on.
Blaster looks awesome! This is why I like you so much Chris. When you face a problem you know you can't work around, you just say Fuck It and move on. True teacher right there!
Another great teaching video Chris, love the fact that even you with your skills has issues makes me feel easier that i'm not alone ! looking forwards to your next vid !
Great video, I designed these pistols for Quill GOTG, the carbon fibre was the trickiest part for the prop makers too but they ended up using a water tank and floating on a transfer then sealing it.
one technique I have used for carbon fiber is get some of that foam rubber drawer liner , its like a square checker pattern with half the squares open , paint the base plastic in black then cut the liner to the same shape of the handle and then lay it on the plastic, use a silver spray paint from a distance, it will make the open squares silver and leave the others black and it mimics carbon fiber. Then for smaller areas you can even cut a small shape of it and line it up with the already painted areas and match the pattern, as its flexible you can wrap it around the grip and airbrush and with some practice looks just like the carbon fiber
Actually did the exact same thing with the vinyl wrap with the Rubies replica a few months back. Not sure which vinyl you had exactly but if you get the Vivvid glossy carbon fiber it looks even better and it’s a lot easier to put the handle, best way is not to do any cut-outs beforehand and place a full piece of the wrap and make the cut-outs after you’ve heated it up to the handle if that makes any sense. Either way great paint on it! End result was amazing! Keep up the awesome vids
Chris, I've seen people emulate carbon fiber with foam cabinet liner. The little holes create a similar look. Base coat black with silver over top. Try it out! Looks awesome though!
I need to make this so much. I had to use a water pistol from Kmart painted for my Starlord costume, it turned out really good tho. Make a post for this video on Facebook for people to share their own painted props.
an idea and/or suggestion, to still achieve the carbon fiber look, I've used those cabinet rubber mats that have a sort of carbon fiber checkered pattern to create that look. just some light dusting with a silver spray paint.
I happen to be very familiar with Star-Lord's blasters for reasons I can't talk about publicly but you definitely nailed the colors, weathering, and blast marks. If I had to "guess" how a good replica would be made I'd say it'd have to be hydro dipped.
Jackanaitor250 it is going to come out, it’s not cancelled. It’ll likely be 2023, James Gunn is still directing it and recently offered updates on the script.
Today wad my English final exam and one part of it was listening comprehension. We got a clip of an australian and I was so happy that I was somewhat accustomed to that accent because I watch Cosplay Chris.
It's a bummer you had such a hard time with the carbon fiber wrap. It's good to try new things, but it always comes with a risk. Instead of carbon fiber you could just fake it? Air brush on a lite checkered pattern with some silver, using a stencil? Like this ruclips.net/video/DDnm3joTu6o/видео.htmlm49s
Quick tip for getting a carbon fiber effect, lay down your base coat, get a section of a rug gripper pad and spray over it with a lighter color, one dry off set the pad a little bit and spray over it again with another shade of the color you used for the base. Won't have sharp edges on it but will still give the visual effect
Car brake fluid is pretty good for removing dirt, grime and residues from plastic parts without damaging paint. Little bit on some q tips should get rid of anything you don't want on the surface.
Sweet only thing I would do differently is plug the holes once I had is back together and paint those to match, and have gotten the seam to disappear with a bit of sanding and filler, sick prop man
If you'll put down a base of gray, take some mesh (like from a screen door) and spray over it with black you'll get a very similar effect. From a distance you can't even tell the difference.
hey Chris the carbon fiber look you wanting can be done by resting some none slip matting over the matt finish of the grip then mist some metallic gloss black over then lift the none slip matting off before it drys
So two solutions for the hand wrap (For future project's) one being when working with vinyl wraps. Cutting it to shape they way you did makes working with it quite hard. If the had excess around all the edges it makes shaping it much much easier. Solution two is dipping the handle. Which is basically a printed sheet of 'paint' in a bucket of water that you put the object in and it transfers the image onto the item Good work as always tho
After watching Bill's vid last year and spotting yours, I knew the vinyl wrap was going to be a pain Chris! :( Great outcome though, looks fantastic! PS. Started on a pair of Rubies blasters myself so fingers crossed!
CHRIS! For the carbon fiber look you could mask off the top and bottom pieces and maker a carbon fiber stencil and spray a color over that to give it at LEAST the carbon fiber LOOK. Hope that helps for future projects :)
My thoughts on the carbon fibre wrap would involve cutting the handle out then vacuforming it with the vinyl. You can do it with a plastic bag and a hoover.
If you wrap the handle in masking tape the remove it with a scalpel, You'll get a pattern that you can then cut out and transfer to the wrap and that means you're able to use minimal heat forming. Also if you do the wrap while its in the two halves it would be a lot easier. if you line up the pattern on a wrap, overlapping edges are practically invisible, so if you want that seamless look, you can just add a strip on the visible edges. another approach would be to not cut out the sheet at all, just lay it then form it with heat, holes are easy to add after. this is the method used to wrap cars. If you watch the "Wrap Attack" playlist on the Yiannimize channel, it shows how professional vinyl wrappers approach unusual objects such as guitars, tv's, toilets, ps4 controllers and other unusual shapes.
Hey Chris, great video! If you ever give this another crack I suggest using a primer pen for the vinyl wrap especially in those tricky corners. It’ll help give that extra stick that you’re looking for. Thanks for another wicked awesome video mate!
Dood i love you for doing things manually aaargh, i have a pair of Star Lord blaster from nerf and I cannot get that scorch marks, most tutorials I found use airbrush. Thank you and love you aaaaaa
Chris you make awsome vids..! Very inspired for me.. hope you find some time and make a roomtour !? Keep up good work and Always remember... cosplay chris do it at its his best !
Soapy water in a spray bottle works best for placing wraps , spray on the surface and wrap will slide around and move easy ( leave to dry in warm place for 24hours plus ) and always over size your cuts buy a few millimeters,
If your going to use epoxy with carbon fiber, get carbon fiber top mat and attach it to the piece with the epoxy in a vacuum bag. Pre-preg carbon fiber using a vacuum bag would work well too.
I know you mentioned it but you and bill really should’ve tried hydro-dipping. You can buy DIY kits and they’re actually fairly easy (did it for a bunch of car parts on my first vehicle and they turned out great), forget the price but I don’t believe it was too expensive, and it’s a valuable technique I’m sure y’all prop makers could take advantage of.
Just found you here in Doncaster, England on You Tube, after searching for a good informative Cosplay channel came across yours with Cap suit and Shield and then this one, as I'm hoping to do a Starlord Cos next year at a con. God yes, needed more of these custom collectable videos.
For real, getting bored of just seeing Batman costume videos pop up all the time.
TheUnholyOne init
You don't have to look. It is not mandatory.
No worries Chris. Don’t be sorry, the gun still looks great with the best part being the tip with the burnt metal looking parts. Love your work and your channel
I’d love to see you take a Jakks Pacific Batman and turn it into your cosplay of Pirate Batman.
Heck yeah
Adrian Jones best suggestion I've heard! Do it Chris! 😆
That would be awesome.
Adrian Jones yes yes yes holy fuck yes
Adrian Jones Genius idea
Awesome work, Chris!
OMG Llitteraly my mom got me two of these for Christmas and needed to find a good video and only Chris can do it. Plus got my dad the Han Solo blaster as well. Thanks Chris!
I also wanted one, as i planned to make one for my next cosplay prop video, and Chris Video comes out :D
punished props has a great video as well.
Caleb Iozzio who gives a shit
🎁💩
I do.

I wanted to build one for my cosplay prop series project! Thank you for the Video Chris!
You should make Solo's blaster from star wars

does this mean we can expect a star lord cosplay because it would be a beaut
Awesome job Chris it looks great. That carbon fiber stuff looks like a beast to work with.
The music was especially good in this episode
Preston Clark yeah i need the final song do u know it??
Literally just bought 2 of these to do this… good to find someone I recognise to learn from! Frustrating thing is they both right handed so I’ll have to remove that little tab.

Pikapool a captain with no country cosplay is here
Nomad cap.

Love your work mate.. you always amaze me with you customers collectibles and your cosplay. And still amazed on how much you like the cosplay Chris pirate batman logo I made for you.
I really liked that you kept in the Carbon Fibre stuff! Brings it back to diy. love it!
That shoe polish lookes amazing with that silver stuff
Amazing job Chris love it
Thank you so much for doing this, waited so long. The wait was definitely worth it.

why is this so amazing, I-
I make my own costumes and props and make mistakes all the time bro it's what makes us better ,coming up with ways too solve problems, great vodeo
Blaster looks awesome! This is why I like you so much Chris. When you face a problem you know you can't work around, you just say Fuck It and move on. True teacher right there!
Good work Chris, I never tire of watching you do your custom collectibles.🤘🏼
You could had put a mesh on top and sprayed a patter on the grip to fake carbon.
Once again you amaze me with your gentian to detail
I liked the end result! Well done!!
This guys f ing good.jesus Christ. For the record, those random guitar riffs In the background music are hilarious.
Another great teaching video Chris, love the fact that even you with your skills has issues makes me feel easier that i'm not alone ! looking forwards to your next vid !

Yours turned out awesome!!! And OMG I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THAT VINYL WRAP. I ended up just leaving it and weathering it just like you did.

Chris is a much more disciplined customizer than me I would've stopped after the dry brushing lol
Love your work, I did this blaster a few years ago for my nephew and used gold and silver leaf for some of the metallic parts.
when putting on decals i always start in the middle and stretch outwards, works perfect everytime.
Chris, I've seen people emulate carbon fiber with foam cabinet liner. The little holes create a similar look. Base coat black with silver over top. Try it out! Looks awesome though!

I was nervous just watching the carbon fibre thing lol good job as always 😁
Bro...you have some sick mad skills! I just ordered the same gun. This video is what I need!!!! Thanks!!
I can tell purely from the thumbnail that this man is an absolute miracle worker
Just Awesome Animation You're in for one hell of a ride my friend
Absolutely brilliant! That is phenomenal Chris, keep up the damn good work!
I happen to be very familiar with Star-Lord's blasters for reasons I can't talk about publicly but you definitely nailed the colors, weathering, and blast marks. If I had to "guess" how a good replica would be made I'd say it'd have to be hydro dipped.
You should do a full star lord cosplay one day. Maybe when Vol 3 comes out
READ Comics rip that confirmation
READ Comics they're all dead tho
Scary Anti-Vax Kid... seriously?
IF Vol 3 ever comes out
Jackanaitor250 it is going to come out, it’s not cancelled. It’ll likely be 2023, James Gunn is still directing it and recently offered updates on the script.
+Cosplay Chris I just ordered 2 of these, can't wait to pimp them out!!!
Today wad my English final exam and one part of it was listening comprehension. We got a clip of an australian and I was so happy that I was somewhat accustomed to that accent because I watch Cosplay Chris.
That looks pretty awesome nice job man
Good job love your videos. Copied so many of them myself. I did this and then paid about $20 to hydrodip it like you said.
Damn good work,love your customs.....
I like being called a geek, I feel acknowledged, understood and empowered
No apologies needed, man. Really great work!
It's a bummer you had such a hard time with the carbon fiber wrap. It's good to try new things, but it always comes with a risk.

Like this ruclips.net/video/DDnm3joTu6o/видео.htmlm49s
I was going to comment this but then I saw yours, I was even thinking of the same video haha.
Or use cabinet liner as a stencil, that works a treat too
In Bill's video he never lets the handle get any paint, he masks it off. That may have lead to the lack of adhesion.
I was suggesting a hydro drip paintjob...
AlphaProto iI'm
Quick tip for getting a carbon fiber effect, lay down your base coat, get a section of a rug gripper pad and spray over it with a lighter color, one dry off set the pad a little bit and spray over it again with another shade of the color you used for the base. You could have hydrodipped the carbon fiber part. It has become quite a popular technique in the Nerf community.
I was just thinking the same, hydro dipping produces some really awesome results.
Car brake fluid is pretty good for removing dirt, grime and residues from plastic parts without damaging paint. Little bit on some q tips should get rid of anything you don't want on the surface.
I LOVE IT! STAR LORD IS SO COOL
this is an amazing video, you my friend have got a new subscriber :)
the hairs looking awesome!!
About damn time you do a video like this man!!
Yass please do the black panther gauntlets too
Venom the lethal protector i know

It still looked good at the end
Awesome Tutorial!!!
Panel line with marker would make this even better.
Soapy water in a spray bottle works best for placing wraps , spray on the surface and wrap will slide around and move easy ( leave to dry in warm place for 24hours plus ) and always over size your cuts buy a few millimeters,
dude awesome video cant wait to see what other custom collectables you got coming up :)
Looks amazing mate have a good week
